FYI epage: This may not be the right forum for this but your wiki gave me an Ubuntu deb link. Tried dialcentral.deb on Ubuntu 10.10 and got dependency issues with python-xml and python2.5-xml. Looks like they are onto newer versions.

Hey Ed.

I can definitely report that there is weirdness sending an initial text and not receiving a response back from it. Usually it's because a friend of mine will call me instead.

After awhile that text will fester and cause problems with DC to the point that the only way to resolve this is by going to Google Voice and deleting everything from the inbox and text options.

Hope this helps in some way. :)

Well don't I feel like a total n00b! Without thinking I did the update to 1.1.9 before checking here to see the changes. I tried launching it from Personal Launcher and it looked like there were some buttons and icons missing from the interface. But I didn't see any error messages.

So now I'm wondering what would be the best way to get it installed and configured correctly so I can help test it? Thanks.

Here's my current configuration...

Which update are you referring to? And from what source, extras? extras-devel? extras-testing?

python-xml is a part of the language's stdlib but for some reason people distributed separately. I guess they are now pulling it in. I'll get this fixed.

by 1.1.9 you mean 1.1.90? 1.1.91? 1.1.92?

I don't use Personal Launcher but I've not seen any missing icons on mine. Could you provide a screenshot and describe what you think is expected?

Has anyone played with the GV support in Asterik 1.8? I finally got a chance to dig through the code and it looks like its all the same as GTalk, you just need to know the right string

(Note, I probably won't have any time to look further into this)

Hey Ed: I have 1.1.92 installed. The command that Personal Launcher starts it with is:
/usr/bin/run-standalone.sh /opt/dialcentral/bin/dialcentral.py
Here is what it looks like when it starts.

I posted screenshots for an n900 which has a smaller screen (though same res) so they upped the sizes of various widgets.

Could you launch it from the command line to provide what kind of error is being reporting.

Code:

python /opt/dialcentral/lib/dialcentral_qt.py
(The .desktop file did not change, both the GTK and Qt version have the same wrapper around the call, it just blocks debug information)

I know heavyt is having issues with python-qt packages. It complains about the sip and qtgui packages being incompatible. I've not yet been able to figure out what is different between my n810 and his device.

Out of curiosity, do you (or heavyt) use Gonvert of ejpi? They should have the same issue (but no one has complained but no one is probably using them ;) )

I so love on DialCentral.

I'd like to do the upgrade.

I'm down to 22.9 megs of memory left.

Should I nuke some apps first before installing or should I be okay?

I can't really say beyond what the App Manager says. Keep in mind you might run into issues like heavyt and others with Maemo 4.1. Where it comes from, I have no clue.

From Atilla
Quote:

This issue was due to some dependency/promotion issues which left PyQt in a half-promoted state. An update has been made some three weeks ago (during the conference :) and everything should be dandy after that. If not, the user should apt-get update to the latest PyQt (the problem is that the application manager might refuse to pull in all dependant packages and instead opt not to install the application).
I'm surprised I forgot about that.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

So epage, what is the next step? I tried apt-get update followed by apt-get install pyqt/pyqt4 but apt-get says can't find package. So I look in apps and found PyQt4 Demo and PyQt4 Full install (it needs libqt4-opengl), both of these apps are VERY large.

Remember all of those packages I had you give information about, like python2.5-qt4-gui (see about here)?

Those are the packages. Make sure those are upgraded.

The command I was using shows what versions are available, I just wasn't aware of what command to show what is installed.

I've done apt-get update followed by upgrade. There was noting to update.

Because there is nothing DC can do about it. PyQt packages got messed up a couple weeks ago. Supposedly the problem is fixed but you have to manually

In theory the following commands will fix it (run as root)
Code:

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

It sounded like from heavyt that this still didn't work. My n810's battery died so I need to recharge it before I experiment with things.

Thanks. but am I reading the error wrong? It seems that the app is calling an older version of pyQT but a newer one is installed. Shouldn't the app only check for a minimum version and not a specific version?

Again I may be reading the error incorrectly.

Note the complaint is between "sip module" and "PyQt4.QtGui" which have conflicting versions. "sip" is the library that the PyQt binding are based around. "PyQt4.QtGui" is what is requiring an older version, not DialCentral.

Code:

Ed!!!!

Hey, I've been weird tonight. *lol*

I got myself a new phone number.

If a chick ever asks me for my digits, I can now respond with

"It's fo fee fo fi fee fi too fee fo too!" in my best hick hillbilly voice impression. *lol*

Is there any way to tie this new number with my other Google Voice account that everyone already knows?

It's saying that I cannot add another Google Voice phone number as a forwarding number.

Just wondering if there's something else I can do to bring my house, two Google Voice numbers, cell phone, tablet and Gizmo numbers all together.

Sorry for the strange question. But hey, it's me. :)

Hadn't had my NIT N810 on for about two weeks when I turned it on yesterday and saw the blinking orange upgrade alert. It told me there were pending upgrades for FBReader and DialCentral. Ran both the upgrades and FBR runs fine, but DialCentral won't launch. Went back to AppMgr and uninstalled, then reinstalled from Maemo Garage... still won't launch. AppMgr shows it at Ver 1.1.94-0. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Slim

Please note, you are running from extras-devel, not all apps are meant to be auto-updated from that.

Gee, wish I had known this before that flashing red button coaxed me into upgrading. I hate to sound dumb, but I don't even know what Qt is...
So, is there somewhere I can download the "old" version of DialCentral?
Thanks again,
Slim

My n810 is rechared again (I keep letting the battery die on accident). I'm going to be looking at this problem in more detail tonight.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I bet everyone will be glad to know that I did the recovery steps as I understood them:
Code:

apt-get remove python2.5-sip4
apt-get autoremove
apt-get update
apt-get install dialcentral ejpi gonvert

(1) Removes that package and everything that depends on it, all the way up to dialcentral
(2) Just tidies things up for good measure
(3) Gets the latest package listings, just in case
(4) Reinstalls all of my Qt apps I uninstalled with (1) with all of their Qt deps.

I am now getting the error like everyone else :)

I made a followup post to maemo-dev to see if they had any further information.

In the mean time you can uninstall DialCentral, disable extras-devel, and reinstall DialCentral (which will be from extras) and that should take you back to the GTK version.

On my bare-bones internal flash install with NuvoClear2 theme, I got the same PyQt4.QtGui error that you guys mentioned above.

But when I ran 1.1.9.2 from my SD card install, with the Diablo5/Telescope theme/switcher, I got a different terminal output.

Code:
