1- still not able to fix this problem, even tried qole's new version "Easy Debian 0.9.47". My N900 has an English keyboard 2- I followed what you suggested but did not work for me. I deleted the big img file and reinstalled everything again, the menu now back. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
qalhat: The only way to get keyboard back now is with the "Fix LXDE kbd" icon. I've put it on my desktop and I press it to return to LXDE.
Are you using this icon? |

yes I am using it, but once I press on the icon it return to LXDE for few seconds only then focus go back to Maemo. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Just an observation that when, in open office writer, you go to full screen
(control + up arrow) the "file" and "edit" options do not work. However when you return to the usual size they function so you that can close out cleanly. More a nuisance then a serious problem... Similar issue with the terminals in accessories. Here "view" was also inaccessible. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
qalhat:
You should see a terminal open first, then, for a short time, a dialogue box will open with an OK button. Both of these windows will close automatically, leaving the LXDE window at the front. Does this happen? If not, what does happen? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
qole:
the terminal open and close auto, but the dialogue will not close untill I click OK. at this point focus return to LXDE and I can use keyboard but only for few seconds then LXDE window zoom out auto and I have to bring it back to front manually but cant use keybaord again.. thanks |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
qalhat: you are probably having the "Information" problem. You will need to edit the xephfocus file as described in the wiki.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
The new version of Easy Debian in Extras-devel (0.9.48) adds a new Maemo-side script, /usr/bin/fixkbdfocus that runs the necessary chroot commands to get keyboard focus back, but it is more elegant, works with any m5 image, and doesn't have localization issues. So no new image or editing is required.
The fixkbdfocus script can be used with any window with keyboard focus problems. Just give it the window name as a parameter. |

I'll update the wiki accordingly. The name you gave to the new scipt is by the way fixkbdfocus. |

Awesome job! Although I do not understand why, this fix also appears to take care of the problem with access to file and edit when in open office writer and other terminals in accessories. |

great work qole, the new version fixed the problem :D. thanks very much for all your help.. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
So what's the recommended approach to updating to 0.9.48? Will App Mgr find the update and apply it just to the Maemo-side files, leaving the downloaded image alone?

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I have a question in regards to the key definitions again...
First, operation of the function keys, due to improvements in .xbindkeysrc are quite good. But, now some of my previous defintions involving Mod5 do not work. For example to obtain the left bracket, {, I had used "xvkbd -xsendevent -text '{'" Mod5 + Left Now the result of typing of Mod5 + Left just behaves as if I had not pressed the function key. Any clue how to get this type of definition to work again? Also, I happen to notice that keysym.h and keysymdef.h are not located as described in the comments in .xbindkeysrc |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

If you type in Code:
xvkbd -xsendevent -text '{' If that does work, perhaps the problem is simply that you have overwritten your .xbindkeysrc file with the new one and not yet reinserted your personal additions? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
LXDE is functional after the update but the new image broke the apt repository. I can't install packages cause ldconfig and locales are uninstallable. This sounds like a broken base-system issue.
Reinstall image? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

surprise, they worked! This is even better than the "trick" I thought. Anyways, assuming the key definition problem had something to do with the original sim card, I then put the old card back in and my key definitions still worked. Sill confused... My best guess is that installing the new sim card must have reset something. Receiving phones call while in Debian had previously disabled the keyboard. Is this related? |

top panel is there but doesnt give me the options to launch apps or logout. earlier i could press the desktop for a sec/two secs to get the logout/shutdown options and that isnt coming up either...any ideas how to logout/shutdown? maybe a reboot would help but need to logout first...

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
sudo apt-get install rubygems1.8
this began installing dependencies and in the process broke with a "cannot find ldconfig in path" error. So apt-get is now unable to run because dpkg is broken. this means apt-get -f install also fails, along with apt-get remove. |

- uninstall Easy Debian - Delete Debian image file - reboot phone - delete any LXDE-related directories in your home dir: Code:
rm -r /home/user/.config/lx* - reinstall Debian image file |

anandv76:
I'm afraid you're going to have to just kill LXDE the "ugly way". Hit Ctrl-backspace, then hit the blue X on the tiny "Easy Debian" window. Then use the Close Debian icon to shut down the chroot. Then try again to open Debian LXDE. Hopefully everything should be fixed. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
anandv76:
After a hard kill of LXDE, things may be a bit out of order. But that should be fixed after the next regular shutdown. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Just sent another update to Extras-devel: Easy Debian 0.9.49
This version cleans up the fixkbdfocus script, taking it from a rough proof-of -concept script to a slightly more polished script, with GUI error messages produced if no window name is provided or the window name is not found. I am going to push this to the Extras-testing quarantine ASAP, so everyone can get their keyboard back by mid-June :) |
