It hasn't been working since PR 1.3, there's a bug for it. Relative jumps are shot, some work some don't. The bug (one of them) has to do with focus of the address bar.

Top link on TMO works like 1 in 100, but other relative jumps work if page is not loading. If one grabs the page just before it finished loading, the focus is kept and it jumps.

There are others, e.g. shift-up jumps by the length of the page when not zoomed in. If one zooms, several shift-ups are needed to reach top of page.

To be fair, some of the TMO pages could use some tweaking for small screens.

Ok, for those who were having problems with portrait conversation mode, I made a small script. This is basically a dirty hack and better one will soon be forthcoming. For now, you can run the file in the zip and it will modify your conversation app. This should potentially work even if you're using one of the themes from this thread.

After unzipping, you can run this as
Code:

sh convport.sh
NOTE: You should run as root

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HAS NOW BEEN SUPERCEDED BY THE CONVERSATIONSMODDER APP

Ok guys, bug finding time :D

I've noticed this too, but I don't think it has anything to do with CSSU.

Reboots have been hit or miss for me for a few months; 50/50 chance they would succeed vs. require a manual power-on action.

It wasn't important enough for me to look into but I may do that.

After enabling forced portrait mode, I was playing around with the portrait mode lock screen and noticed that, immediately upon sliding to unlock in portrait mode, the task launcher button and clock briefly appear as they would if the desktop were in portrait mode (in the upper left). After a few tries, I was able to tap the task launcher button to open the task launcher immediately after unlocking and while the desktop was still in portrait orientation before rotating to landscape. It just takes a single tap with the right timing. Sign of whats possible or no?

You can press CTRL+SHIFT+blue arrow + L (yes, I know, 4 keys is a lot) to force a rotation of anything, including the desktop (it's temporary and is removed when changing windows, thanks to thp for pointing it out), so it can be done, it just needs time.

BTW, would anyone have a problem with this? (it requires a patched hildon-desktop, so will require the CSSU)

or with the homescreen-dockbar, and there are all 4 positions supported! (don't know if dr launch is also able to this?)

btw:
to the cssu guys: would be cool if rotating to all 4 positions could be supported too with forceautorotation!

Yay for orientation lock!! Also using those 4 buttons to force desktop to portrait just gets me excited for the future!

We don't need NO NOKIA!!!

Btw, will we have white listing of forced rotate apps in the next release?
Thanks again.

can we talk about virtual keyboard???
what i want to ask here is:
1. the default vkb (full qwerty) in portrait mode is not all adjusted, CAN THAT BE FIXED? portrait qwerty is cool...
or...
2. i know for FastSMSEvo T9/qwerty keyboard fix, but i don't want to resolve issues in that manor(installing 3rd party apps, and so....) so i ask IF that form of keyboard COULD BE IMPLEMENTED a CSSU??? (both T9 an qwerty, with option to choose of course... )

this is my thinking, so i better share with you to hear your oppenions...

Just installed the CSSU, looks pretty damn nice so far...

Is anyone else able to activate shortcutd with half camera key from the lockscreen? Pops up my dashboard for me when I do it, not sure if its a CSSU bug or cause of other stuff I installed. Amusing in that you can reach the launcher and launch programs, but it'll load in the background of the lockscreen.

perhaps just put an option to put it there in settings somewhere, so you can have it not there if you don't want it then put it there when you want to try it?

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

few more things:
1. double tap the power button above the phone to turn off the screen
2. tap it again to turn it on

#2 doesn't work. i have to tap twice. when doing #2 in portrait mode, the background image gets corrupted (i see large chunks of square black space). once, there was no image loaded at all. the entire screen was black and i had to guess where the slider was to unlock the phone.

second thing, camera app screws up (viewfinder messes up) when auto rotated. perhaps an option to select which apps can be excluded from auto rotation might help?

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

so the issues i was haveing have gone!

but for some reason, the 9 desktops still doesnt work.

tap screen/tap gear/tap menu/tap manage views/

there is no way to scroll left or right to add more then just the 4 desktops.

MohammadAG 2011-02-26 19:33

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

You're repeating what was said in the thread, many times :p
Forced rotation is not for day-to-day use, it only makes it easier to "press" CTRL+SHIFT+R on all apps.
A whitelist is planned for future updates.

Also, a single tap brings up the lock screen for me, not sure what combo breaks that.

That's another great idea that you have! BTW Will we have an opportunity to rearange the portrait desktop widgets and icons, another way than the landscape ones? This would be just great!
Or i think this lock would be better situated in the settings, isn't it?

This is ultimately intended for the use-case where you want auto-rotate (e.g. browser), but are lying down in bed reading something. You don't want it to flip between modes just because the angle of your head/phone to bed is <> 90°.

(Ideally, orientation would use the front camera and do face recognition on the person looking at it: i.e. ▶ vs ▼)

Dude, this would make our phone just more "the best" phone ever. Actually ur point made me think, that it's better when the lock is where MAG had put it in the first place

All you have to do is:
- upgrade the Theme Customizer to 0.9-69
- run these commands in terminal after upgrade:
Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get update
apt-get install --reinstall hildon-home

- reboot the phone or run Theme Customizer to get new hildon-home restarted and you should have 9 desktops available.

Note that this will make the "resize shortcut icons" funcion @ Theme Customizer useless, it won't work.

User who does not have CSSU installed won't notice any difference, they still have ability to resize the icons.

Edit: package is now in repos:

hi. just want to report that I have no option for 9 desktops. I'm not bothered, happy with 4 but just reporting back.
I have not done the reinstall hildon-home (as I am happy with 4 for the moment) but have installed the latest theme customiser plus latest cssu. It was there when first restarting but gone after a reboot.

Hope this information is of use.

I ask me what will happen if someone use for example Microb with his own rotation natively actived + zaxisrotation & forcerotation enabled + Ctrl - shift - R actived in Shortcudt ? Any possible conflict can come with all this settings at the same time ?

EDIT : Love the idea of lock rotate applet :)

I've not noticed any conflict with microb (with his own rotation natively actived) and CSSU with forcedrotation on (v 12.1)

Tapping the power button to unlock has always been flakey - quite often the first tap goes unrecognised, sometimes even a second tap is missed. This has always been the case and IMHO has nothing to do with CSSU.

@realsportcars
like i sad: it is not the best way of resolving issues, and fixing problems... better to be implemented in system itself...
HOWEVER i do not say that this method is bad or something... but i think it can be resolved better ;)

another thing.... "midnight commander" is working in portrait mode,.. but some of commands in bottom is not shown... anyhow, i stumbled in one "issue" there witch i never experienced: when i touch some command or dialog box of MC (not dialog of x term...) i get virtual keyboard .... ????
that's weird!

another thing....
when i hold phone in portrait, and with locked screen, the power button doesn't seems to work... BUT, when i rotate my phone and hold it in landscape,.... button seems to react, and it shows me "swipe to unlock" (but with 2 presses :P )

and then i rotate back to portrate my phone, while shown "swipe to unlock" screen, and it got shattered all over the screen.... but swipe itself works and it unlocks screen and go back on desktop in landscape mod...

so that's about it from my report... if something is unclear, i will be glad to put it in a more convenient way (video maybe.... ) :D

"Other" updates donīt delete data. Everything depends on what have you installed already to your N900. As it stands in this threads topic "in-development" and more information can be found from wiki, everything is possible so as always make backups and if **** hits the fan report here and restore backups and keep rocking on.

Have fun at testing and braking stuff!

It is amazing and it probably will be amazing when it'll be fully usable.

Up until recently, using the N900 in portrait mode was a dream, a promise never fulfilled by Nokia. But we will... All the progress suggests we will.

As MAG just explained you have to press CTRL+blue-arrow+shift+L. It's pretty useless at the moment though as there's no way to rearrange the icons and widgets. But I think that this should be definitely doable. Think of using 2 icon+widget placement schemes - one for portrait and one for landscape... that's so damn cool.
