I do have busybox 1.19.0power3

So for now, You're only one having it working (almost) flawlesly after upgrading to kp48.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

was all the time checking the bluetooth bug mentioned.

my BH-504 did not disconnect while paused after 10 minutes
I have a BH-214 somewhere. I'll edit this later

EDIT:nope. BH-214 did not loose connection either.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

I still wonder what is behind mine bt problem.
Just reverted stock kernel - no sign of a problem; got kp48 back - same ****. Can it be some crazy combo of sth beyond kp that produce this bug only with kp installed?

Have you actually tried playing sth after this idle timeout? Because if you just checked the connection status - it doesnt show anything.

casketizer 2011-08-27 23:25

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

Does the new kernel-power-settings still support kp47? I think I'll go back to 47.

yes, first time, I resumed playing, from n900, second time I resumed from BH-214 play/pause button. I intend to test again resuming the other way around with both.
edit: tested both again. no connection lost.

I can see segmentation fault with Leafpad, but only in sudo gainroot mode.
1) sudo gainroot -> leafpad -> save as -> segmentation fault
2) root -> leafpad -> save as -> OK

we should be looking elsewhere

I'm wondering if this has something to do with the "save as" system dialog. What library set contains that underlying default dialog? Here's why I ask:

I've used FMMS for years now, and routinely save contained items with "save as" to rename them on the fly. I updated (v46 to v48) on Friday, and yesterday when trying to "Save as" in FMMS (as user), the device rebooted, three times in a row. Clicking "Save", and then just renaming it with file manager afterward worked fine. But "Save as" makes it reboot.

Maybe this isn't a root related thing at all, but more a library related thing? Maybe it's making a call in to a system/kernel level routine with a parameter that was marginally acceptable with v47 and prior, but is now causing a panic condition in v48?

I can confirm, the *only* update I made in the past couple weeks was from v46 to v48. I specifically avoided updating anything else since I wanted to give v48 a run through my normal routines, as I was worried it may not be quite stable yet (which is why I never updated to v47). Oh, and I don't have R&D mode enabled, nor do I have any updates for Busybox (nor do I have CSSU installed.)

Edit: Is leafpad python based, like FMMS? If so, maybe it's the way the python "Save As" default dialog is calling in that's causing the problem. Just a thought.

You only get to see the temperature (battery temperature, not cpu) if you load the bq27x00-battery module, which is now (KP48) blacklisted.

You might want to reconsidering going back to KP47.. OR enabling the module and hope that nothing bad happens..

Enough. I've reported you and your constant thread derailings all over the friggin' board. Btw, it's not a kernel bug anyway. Get a clue and get updated software.

Just enable bq27x00_battery module. That's it. But use it at your own risk.

And please don't state things you have no idea about in fact.

@trisha02,

This will be my last answer to you on this thread. I strongly advise you to either use the search function or to start a new thread for *each* individual problem you may have.

This thread is about kernel-power, so please stay with the topic.

Now to your issue: can you please run "lsmod" in a root shell and see if the bq27x00_battery module shows up?

If YES, either qcpufreq has a problem, or there is REALLY a problem when using the bq module with KP48.

If NO, then please figure out how to enable it.

Just some confirms:
Updated from KP47 to KP48 with HAM. No unexpected problems sofar.
JoikuSpot works if you you apply the old boucerfix.
Nokia BH-214 still doesnt work as expected.
H-E-N works (I think I run BME or atleast default)
Fcamera works.

Edit:
Got the leafpad "Save as"-problem.

Hmm, some here.
In x-term:
root
cd /home/user
leafpad test.txt
(saved the file with some text and exit)
leafpad test.txt
Now I do a "Save as" and 5 seconds later the phone reboots.

Strange.

That's true in principle :)

But if you had looked at the first post (probably you have, just overlooked it :) you would have noticed the "disabled autoloading bq27x00_battery module".

As far as I know using that module is the only means of getting the battery temperature (I'm sure there's also at least one thread about qcpufreq in this forum, I will leave the proof as an excercise to the reader :), so if you don't load that module, so you don't get the temperature.

Now, if it the module is not loaded ("didn't show up") then you need to enable it:

First make sure it is NOT blacklisted. Look in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
Then, to be on the safe side, just load it by hand "# modprobe bq27x00_battery" (please report any errors you get).

If all OK, check with the qcpufreq thing and see what you get.

Naa, not for me.
If I run it Standalone I get the savedialog but a few seconds later the phone crash.

woody14619 2011-08-29 18:08

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

I'm willing to bet this has something to do with something plugging into system in an odd way, or a bad parameter being passed into a kernel level call by a library. I don't have my device setup for debugging, but if someone who can get the SaveAs dialog to work in v48 could do an strace and find out what calls are being done, I'd bet good money something's calling in to the same system call in v48 (probably something around getting mount points) with a sometimes bad parameter.

User-based apps shouldn't be able to crash a system this readily. There's got to be something happening at a kernel/system level to cause this quick of a reboot on multiple people's systems.

Are you sure it is not just a change in the way the battery power is measured (BME instead of BQ27200 etc)? In kernel-48, not all methods are enabled by default (see release notes).

If you are so convinced it is the power kernel version fault...

The command should be something like:
Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get --reinstall install kernel-power=2.6.28-10power47 kernel-power-modules=2.6.28-10power47 kernel-power-flasher=2.6.28-10power47

I didn't test it, so for your own risk!

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v48

Sorry for log delay... Now I'm have some school obligations, so I do not have time for this thread. Now I do not read responces... If something urgent which cannot wait contact me...

I know, that it is not possible to use bq module in v48. Patch which disabled autoloading (in board code) also disable registring board info. So solution is disable autoloading by blacklist. Now it is fixed on git (will be released in v49). So v48 cant use bq module (who want must downgrade to v47 or upgrade from git)!

Next problem is with maemo.org package interface again :-(
settings package is Ok, new version I can promote. But flasher, modules, bootimg, debug, source, ... again interface does not see.

I used original maemo stock kernel tarball (I checked md5sum too, see repository.maemo.org page) and problem is still here...

So maybe we will not see new version of kernel-power in extras anymore :-( If somebody wants and has time, can try to find problem or contact X-Fade. I'm very unhappy that after 3 months I cannot promote packages to extras-testing...

Hi pali,

On my side, I'm currently applying atop kernel patches to the v48.

I finally learned how to apply patches to the current kernel-power tree with quilt, and actually the compilation run ...

I use scratchbox on my side, and since my recent work on the kernel-power, I have already pushed many others packages on testing-devel.

I just don't understand what problems you have pushing new packages of your devel packages ...
