Re: TOHKBD rev2
Kimmoli, if I can make a wish: If possible, make alt-tab work like it does in desktop os's: so that the app that is activated with the first alt-tab keystroke is the one I used last (before the current one). That way you can quickly switch back and forth between two apps with single alt-tab's.
(The way it now works, I have six apps open, I'm in app 1 and switch to app 2 with alt-tab; to get back to app 1, I need to cycle through apps 3..6.) |

I received my white/blue/carbon fibre/Finnish layout TOHKBD2 this morning :).
Thank you Kimmo, Dirk and Andrew for your collaboration. |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
You should protect cells in the "TOHKBD order status" document. People is editing and ****ing all the day. Let only edit cells outside the data you write.

Re: TOHKBD rev2
The BlueKey-Ins screenshot feature is nice - no switching to a screenshot app and back again, then wait for the timeout :)
... but please, let's have chronologically sorted filenames: ccyymmdd-hhmmss-sss instead of ddmmccyy-... ? |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
What do we call the blue keys ?
Sym has been suggested, but is taken by Alt-Sym, so are they: Blue-, AltGr-, Fn-, Mod-, Meta-, Super-, Hyper-, ... keys ? The functionality is mostly as AltGr keys. What is the intended purpose of the Alt-Sym thingy - currently, it doesn't do anything ? |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
A few observations and ideas ...
Now running software version 0.2.4, keyboard usable since installing 0.2.3 - Blue keys didn't do anything on older versions (except PgUp/PgDn). The Ins key does nothing, e.g. in an editor (joe in FingerTerm). Screenshot on Blue-Ins works, so physical key is fine - must be the key mapping. Would be nice to get Insert/Overtype working ... There are two colums of keys: 3,w,s,x,Shift(Left) and 0,o,l,!,@ which have very little backlight. From tests in low-light conditions, this doesn't seem to be a big problem, though. In FingerTerm, turn VKB Off, so it doesn't "popup" all the time when using the TOHKBD2 :). Now, the term app is just as useful as on the n900 - my main reason for choosing Jolla when the n900 died :(. A CapsLock-like stickiness of Ctrl and Blue could be useful, maybe exclusive (one cancels the other) ? Not sure how that could be mapped (and indicated), though, without losing the current (and very useful) sticky feature. Any ideas, NY1 ? In the Settings app, a keyboard tester could be nice. Show a map of the keyboard, light up the keys as they are pressed (and turn off on release, of course). Maybe show the keycodes (*) as well, for keyboard remapping, if useful ? (*): Or whatever kmap2qmap needs, haven't checked ... My Space key needs a little extra pressure :(, but all other keys are working fine :) Hoping wear-in will improve that, though - already a bit better now, or I've gotten more pushy :). KS #958, keyboard arrived on 11/6 :) - a few frustrating days before the software Q&A release :(. Alumide/Alumide/CarbonBlack - Alumide surfaces felt a bit rough at first, but are becoming better after a bit of wear. |

Re: TOHKBD rev2
Not sure if this would help anyone, but I send this anyway.
I have two Jollas. One that I have used since I got it as "the first one". I have a lot of applications and I also had the old battery drain fix applied (nfc disabled). I installed the TOHKBD software from kimmoli's link. Had a lot of problems, reported also here. After some settings applied (repetition delay and speed) I got it working. Only few keys backlight was not working. Then came OS update. Almost the same problems came back, multiple and strange characters appear when pressing a key. No settings change helps. Phone did not recognize TOHKBD. At this point I removed that battery drain fix (enabled nfc). Needed some reboots and time, then TOHKBD was recognized and I could install software from Jolla shop. But the problems are still the same. The other Jolla came back from my niece, she had dropped it and the display (not the screen) was broken. I finally got it fixed couple of weeks ago. I reinstalled (factory reset) few softwares, even Android. That Jolla recognized TOHKBD without any problem. With the same settings as the other Jolla, it works. Only the same backlight problem exists, and few keys need harder pressing, but no extra characters. So, it can be your phone (and maybe the installed softwares) and not the TOHKBD that causes the problems. |
Re: TOHKBD rev2
It arrived! My Orange-on-Black-with-Kelo-backing TOHKBDv2! It is glorious, magnificent and perfect! Every single key works as it should! Thanks to you all: my phone is finally complete! :-)

Using "pkcon remove tohkbd" seem to solve the problem. Uninstalled TOHKBD2 from icon and removed and reattached TOHKBD2, installation was then launched and the biggest problems are gone. Now only minor backlight problems that can be solved later, when the developers are not anymore in a big hurry. Thanks to kimmoli for "debugging info" |

Re: TOHKBD rev2
General question to Dirk:-
I understand that weekends are your only time to actually post the keyboards, the rest of your week being tied up with work and assembly. The orders sheet is a very long list. How many keyboards do you post on the weekends? And are local (Holland, EU) deliveries prioritized first? Cheers |

Re: TOHKBD rev2
I really don't know if this is the right place, but I'm quite unsure of how to get ahold of Dirk. I left a comment on kickstarter about a month ago, but haven't gotten a reply. Other means had the same result, but I'm guessing I should have come to this forums earlier.
I noticed at some point after the kickstarter campaign had reached its goal, that there's a mention of no tracking number for TOHKDB's shipping. Due to extremely restrictive customs regulations in Argentina, I need a tracking number. I will not receive the package if it does not have one (I may be discarded or returned, I honestly don't know what happens to them). How can I go about getting a package with a tracking number? I wouldn't mind the extra cost (it's only fair that I pay it), but otherwise, it's just money down the drain for me. :( |

An nope, I haven't read what you mention on kickstarter. I found kickstarter's website UI extremely confusing to get around after pledging, and all I could accomplish was to post a comment there. Even now, I've failed to find what you're talking about. There's no mention of any email or IRC here, that's for sure. |

Well he is easy enough to get a hold of, I just hate idly lurking in IRC - figured this was the best place for asking more general questions.

There are a supposed total of 1432 TOHKBD ordered. Supposedly there have been 631 orders (some people may have ordered more than 1 TOHKBD under one order number. I know I did.) that have been assembled and are either about to be shipped, are shipped, or have been received. I think the main question of people is when are they going to get theirs? The lack of information about the process beyond that the Scandic layouts arrived first and thus would be assembled first (which also makes sense so that the folks at Jolla can get their hands on TOHKBD first for the software integration and testing) is the biggest issue people are facing: Why do some later backers get their TOHKBD's before those that backed earlier? For example, my order number has some 440-some orders that seem to have been assembled and/or shipped before it, even though my order number comes before them. Why? So orders are obviously not fulfilled in a first-in-first-out basis. Is the assembly by type of keyboard? It does not seem like it, because there are a variety of different layouts that have been assembled and/or shipped, including the layout I requested. Is the assembly by higher paying individuals first? It does not seem like it because in that case those that ordered more TOHKBD's would be served before that ordered only one, and that isn't the case. Is the assembly by country of destination? Difficult to tell. Most reports indicate that people in EU-EEA countries are receiving their TOHKBD's, so maybe EU-EEA first, then the rest of the world? In any case, I am in the EU, so maybe assembly is not by destination. Research suggests that people are ok with delays and waiting if they know about how long they have to wait and why. Most people realize that things are not perfect, but they do expect to be treated justly. In this case, letting people know what determines who's order gets processed when would go a long way in reducing both questions and possible tension. Like flipping tables. Yeah, yeah, it's a crowdfunded project, etc, etc. But Dirk's outfit is not some fly-by-night manufacturing joint where things are assembled on the knee. It is run under a real company, with a real VAT and everything, and celebrating a decade of existence today (by the way, happy tenth anniversary of your parent company, Dirk!), so there is no real reason that just a little bit of time could not be spent on customer relations. Re: TOHKBD rev2
Luckily all my buttons works just fine :)
But I have some other complains about the design of the keyboard. I've added a picture at the end of this post, so you can see what the numbers are referring to. 1 - Whats wrong with the color of the left curly bracket "{"? Shouldn't that be blue? :p 2 - While the question mark "?" and the exclamation mark "!" are 'sym' buttons, they don't actually work when using the sym button... However, They do work when you do not press the sym button... 3 - the plus sign "+" is just the opposite, it doesn't do anything when pressing the plus sign, but you need to press the sym button. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/z...ce-meme-i9.jpg 4 - pressing the parentheses "(" and ")" gives ";" and " ' ". 5 - I see that there is a hole for some indicator, what exactly is this made for? :) besides 1, everything could be fixed with a software update :) http://i.imgur.com/EjoMJAW.jpg |
