By the sound of it (Nokia officials) - the lead in from announcement to availability is going to be short (and sweet).

The N800 was sighted in stores even before it had been announced by Nokia. :)

CompUSA had them in stock (and some stores put them out early). The N800 was announced on January 8th, 2008. I got mine from CompUSA on the 7th, personally.

So, a warning for all you retailers out there. Beware Nokia's wrath. Why else do you think such a strong retail chain fell so fast? :D

I think it was on December when Nokia announced the n97, and i was really excited for a new Internet Tablet, but i was disappointed, and seeing the tendency of the MWC seems to be leaking new phones to the press and i think that by now we should have seen a new IT. My personal opinion is that we will not see a new IT, although i have my fingers crossed.

we have known for years that the nokia internet tablet is not a phone.
why on earth would nokia choose a mobile phone conference to announce it?

anyone with more info on previous releases have a list of the actual release events from those?

besides, i for one would prefer to hear "we are announcing the new nokia internet tablet running maemo 5, today.

here, buy one and take it home.

not some silly months prior paper launch :)

Therefore, as Nokia intends the next Maemo device to be successful, they will announce it at a large event within the United States. No more little ceremonies at home, and Barcelona is just too risky.

Peter from Nokia Marketing said we're not getting any announcement, at least until they drop the final alpha SDK:

What you will see next from Maemo 5 is the complete alpha SDK with the UI framework, but not the lead device.

I was looking forward to the SDK with UI framework. Now I'm even more interested, because that's how Nokia's playing it this time. The SDKs are their announcements, just how geeks like it; you have to puzzle out the details by poking around in the code. It's a kind of game...
