where are the moderators? Have not seen one in a long time, except for some supermodertor. Have they left? are they banned? Or are they just undercover with new alias?

I've been banned. So I'm posting this undercover with a new alias.

Hey, only the council is permitted to answer questions here, remember? *

Dave,

While we all respect your views, this isn't "Ask the Docmaster," this is "Ask the Council," and as such, you are barred from poaching questions.

* See how that is a question? I am very careful, yes?

Sure hope you are hoping for honesty and not more disappointment.
(having just dropped a brand new n900 in the swamp I have my hands full
of brackish disappointment right this moment anyway) :( :( :(

Anyways, this issue of discouraging further MAEMO development
certainly looks to be serrriously premature given that Meego appears
to be at an _absolute_minimum_ a year from being where maemo is now.

The question I would hope to see is whether or not MAEMO
fremantle(+?) could be installed on the n9.

This would give us who are learning MAEMO a kickstart
into the n9 hardware learning curve and would allow some
parallel development during the long period of debugggging Meego
(simultaneously, mind you) an infantile operating system
on a brand new and inevitably driver-buggy hardware platform.
Fighting wars on two fronts is usually a recipe for disaster.
At least with a known OS basis we know what to expect when we
encounter difficulties with the hardware.
Dual booting or even a vm environment would go a long way to
helping get things going.

Anyhoo, if this question has been explored would appreciate
links to such consideration. :D

Thanx

Have you seen places where moderation has been needed and not performed? Have you click the Report this post button and had it ignored?

Good moderation is like the police - you only see it when you need it, but that doesn't mean they're not doing stuff to ensure you don't see the need.

I have one question for the council / nokia.

Is the updated OVI maps will ever come to n900? I tried of asking this question in ovi blog and Surya / Pino gives the same answer " Can't tell / try meego".

Is NOKIA not responsible to answer their users with a valid reason why N900 was ignored? Can't we ever get an answer ?

No one gave the phone free and NOKIA should remember they priced this phone higher than the latest N8. How could they expect more sales / users when they ignore a flagship device ?

It doesn't matter to me any more now that I've been banned and can post under the cloak of anonymity.

Sorry, got on a roll with other activities. But I've seen very few post reports lately...

I really appreciate the work this community is doing and would like to reward those putting in the hard graft or at least show my appreciation. However, identifying who to donate to, and how, is time consuming and isn't easy.

Would it be possible to have a single page containing all the projects currently in development and allow the users to select which projects to donate to and how much.

Alternatively how about if we could donate a sum along with a list of applications installed. The money could then be split evenly or split according to some other metric (such as lines of code), or donated to a talkmeamo nominated charity.

If you could do this from the app manager then that would be even better.

Feel free to set one up, although I suspect most developers (if they're not already asking for donations) are too shy to put themselves on it.

If you want to donate to authors of specific apps, go to the download page on http://maemo.org/downloads/ and you'll see links for each of the Maintainers. I'm sure they wouldn't mind receiving an email saying how much you appreciate their contribution (that may be enough!) and would they like a donation?

The Application Manager source is open, there's a rough technical spec for the maemo.org side. If you know C++ or PHP, get stuck in. We even have a mechanism to deliver the new version, in the form of the Community SSU, which should be released shortly.
