I did not mean it like to that Destroid would be no good, maybe just a bad choice of words by me, but in my opinion if you put them to the same line, psx emulator is more interesting, im sure they both are piece of an art what it comes to developing and stuff.

I am very sorry destroid, i did not mean it like that... :(

Personally, I dont think this app is even qualified to be a "game" for it to be in the game coding competition. It may be qualified as an "Application" or a "Utility" but not a game. So should Sony and other game developers be receiving the bounty then? THEY made the code for FFVII (Square) and other "games" we guys are playing on the PSX4M/ALL.

Besides, all the core code for Pandora which this app is from, is made by ZoTtD isn't it? smoku basically ported, optimized and coded a frontend/frontend generator for it right? (i may be wrong though)

(smoku, I'm not downing your knowledge and reputation for being a developer. I am starting out myself and I'm looking up to you, wanting to be as experienced as you in the future. You are one member who contributes TONS of useful things for the community and you're a great and a genius of a developer in my opinion)

This is a great emulator though, smoku, and I'm using it a lot, but I don't even think this is qualified as a "game".

I voted for SkidStone. *hides and cowers*

You use the emulator to play games therefore it is in the games category. It is not a utility since you don't "utilize" it for anything, you play games with it.
Doing the port and optimizing it is not easy work, btw.

Also, yeah I'm wondering about what the contest winner gets. I'm guessing money?

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

I know porting is not an easy task because you must know how the n900's OS(Maemo) calls and runs this app and how this app uses the n900's hardware (like the OMAP CPU) to produce the 3D graphics, sounds and I/O processes. Making it stable is another case. Instruction sets is another case. Hell, even the frontend alone can take a good amount of hours for an experienced developer to finish. NOT TO MENTION : IT'S NOT PAID FOR BY EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT USES IT, WHICH MAKES SMOKU AND OTHER OPEN SOURCE DEVS VERY VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE. (software dev't student here)

Since the Pandora (which PSX4ALL came from) uses "basically" the same CPU and OS as the N900, it's not toooooooooooooooo hard.
It's hard though.

it's just my opinion that it is not a game itself but a "platform" to play games that developers like SquareSoft coded/developed.

Try comparing it with Destroid and SkidStone and you'll see that these two magnificent (though not perfect) games are made from scratch (maybe).

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

twiny,

open a xterm window.
type
Quote:

sudo ln -s /usr/games/psx4m /usr/bin/psx4m
then keep doing
Quote:

cd <folder name in MyDocs>
until you're in your desired ISO/BIN/IMG file

then type
Quote:

psx4m -runcd <game name.extension>
do that everytime until smoku releases a GUI for psx4m

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

also you can find insructions in this thread and instead of sudo
1 download rootsh
2 in terminal write "sudo gainroot" then hit enter or return
3 follow the steps without writing sudo

to help you can write "ls" then hit enter to see all the files under where you are now the cd to any

Forget that sudo/root stuff.

Just get the PS BIOS - scph1001.bin and put it in MyDocs (root of the USB drive you see after connecting N900 to PC). Then put ISO of your game in the same place.

Then open 'X Terminal' app and type:
/usr/games/psx4m -runcd /home/user/MyDocs/your_game.iso

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

It's cool! Thanks.

I have some notes:
- It's usually called CLI (Command-Line Interface) not CUI.
- There really is no need to do anything using root acount
- You can download and install just by taping http://maemo.org/packages/view/psx4m/ -> Latest Version -> File: psx4m_0.4.1_armel.deb
- The reason I chose MyDocs location for BIOS it is that FAT filesystem is not case-sensitive, so the filename could be cased anyway

Easily - simply put the command in you wish to launch

Eg: /usr/games/psx4m -runcdbios -frameskip 5 /path/to/my/rom/R4 - Ridge Race.img

Then select update when clicked and choose disabled etc for everything else

Re: PSX4All Maemo Edition

Hi again...

smoku, I see you released another emulator, and it runs pretty well! Thanks! I've read some 10 pages back and couldn't find answers to some questions I have. I hope I can dare to ask them, even though some may have been answered somewhere already. It wouldn't be a bad idea to put this info in the first post.

So the psx4m is a whole different application from psx4all? How's it looking with 3D acceleration for this one?

Is there a list of the keys mapping to buttons? I figured most by trial and error, but the list would be handy. Also, the way it is is not how I want it. I guess some option to load the config of the old psx4all wouldn't be trivial to implement? I suppose you're working on a different way, smoku, you mentioned some unified GUI frontend for your emulators. How's it looking with that? I know there's a feature freeze till the competition end, so maybe you got something ready that will make psx4m pretty usable? :D (the buttons config is the only dealbreaker for me)

Once again, thanks for the effort.
