Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Hi OMP team,

Got a question/issue. I'm guessing that since the last update to OMP, it cannot see the media on my SD card. I had between 1700 and 2000 tracks on my N900, but now OMP only sees 142, the ones in /home/user/MyDocs/.sounds.

Oversight on my part, or is this a real problem?

Thanks,
--vr

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Looks like tracker problem, as OMP doesn't do database oln it's olwn - it uses what tracker presents. And OMP doesn't touch tracker. I've had some problems with tracker in the past, and CSSU was to be blamed (but it was fixed, since). They're only ones that touched tracker at all, AFAIK.

Try rebulding tracker database, it should help.

2 requests:

Download lyrics from metal-archives.com
Download all lyrics of the current queue/an artist/an album/etc.

Now we're using more sources than mirkforce, so this shouldn't be a problem now (and internally just a foreach :) I guess )

/edit: and add manual overriding of track/bands names if the provider uses another name.

if possible add button for "Download All Album Arts and Lyrics Automatically" No Need to Change songs to Sync Lyrics.

Thank you for your continued updates, gidzzz.
The latest updates have really polished OMP up well.

I have had a slight issue I thought it best to report.

While listening to music earlier I pulled out the headset at exactly the end of the track. It paused automatically as I expected.

Upon reconnecting the headset later on the music did not resume, play or the space button would not resume the music.
I had to skip a track to then fix the play button.

I don't know if the position of the track is relevant, here's a screen grab as you can see the track was just about to change.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I've also noticed problems with tracker. OMP seems to have forgotten where some of my videos and music tracks are. Even after refreshing tracker there's no change to the number of videos and audio tracks reported by OMP.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I have had this problem sometimes, as well. In this case I deinstalled Open Media Player. Then, the "old" Media Player is starting to track anything automatically. After this, I installed Open Media Player again and everything has been tracked.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I'm thinking an "Open File" option on the menu would probably cure the lost videos/tracks and tracker issues. It would force OMP to look in a folder and may then add the missing files to it's own database, hopefully.

Doubt it, I have tried to open a new music file with Hamster Filer and the tracker wasn't bothered.
Reboot or restarting the tracker works.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Just out of interest. Is anyone getting the same problem in other apps?

FlowPlayer, MussOrgsky and Mediaplayer are also having problems locating tracks and videos on my device.

A lot of my tracks are mp4a downloaded via CuteTube-QML. All of them showed up in all media apps.

Well I am not getting any bugs that I know of.
I wouldn't say it was dead or unmaintained just because nothing has happened in 4 months. People just get busy.

If I remember correctly, default media player pauses a video when the slider blacks the screen. OpenMediaPlayer doesn't pause the video. An option to pause the video when slider makes screen black would be nice. And if the video isn't paused, it would be nice to turn off video streaming (since it's useless to stream video when screen is black, and may take processor power) and stream only audio, jumping video stream to correct time when slider unblacks the screen.
Yes, I am an odd user to wish to listen to video without looking at it. But it's still an interesting feature request based on observed difference between OMP and DMP.
Best wishes. Thank you.

Which for me is the best thing, while connected to TV and playing straight .avi's from N900 which out wasting power. Only few times I was watching something longer straight on N900.

More options, great - not too many, since simplicity always works.

I might got it the wrong way, if so, sorry, but what is that You listen which out screen? Did You try mp3 :D
Just messing here of course, anyway the bottom line is an Option won't do harm - that is it.

a bug? Sometimes when I open omp it takes a lot of time until it shows "x songs", "y videos". The layout doesnt rotate and one cannot simply turn off omp.

Not a bug but a feature request
1. Please add screenshot button in video player
2. Also add "slowest, slow, normal, fast, fastest" option for playing audio files in different speeds
it will be nice feature

Same problem is reproducable when starting OMP first time after reboot. And when starting also hildon status menu is frozen and not opening when I click on it.

I tried to debug it, but without success. I think that problem with freezed hildon status menu is because of mediaplayer status menu plugin which trying to connect to OMP which is frozen too...

Not possible. Video decoding is done by DSP which render it to other screen layout which cannot be screenshoted. This is cost for HW decoding.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Also, i use a lot online radio.

One improvement that can be done:

When i press play on the radio, it stay with the same icon while buffering.
I mean, on the normal player, as soon as i press the play icon, it change to the stop icon even while buffering.
But in OMP, it stay on the play icon until radio has been buffered.

This can lead to potential double press and therefor headache finding why the music does not start.

pause a video and leave it for a few minutes. when returning, screen is black (not paused scene), pause buttons etc are not rendered correctly

video playback as background theme. I mean if i switch to other app i can still see the video in background:)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

2 bugs:
1. Freezed lyrics view. Context menu -> edit lyrics -> save fixes, but it's only a workaround (sometimes, not always)
2. Too much space (more than the view height) left above and below the lyrics (sometimes, not always)
Feature requests:
1. Move the lyrics context menu stuff to the upper, status bar menu. When no lyrics are downloaded it's hard to target that small line of text :)
2. override the title, album title & etc. for lyrics downloaded (e.g. even though I use "Loaded" in the metadata, it check for "Duff McKagan's Loaded" too)
3. Override the lyrics provider order either one-time or for the whole album/artits
4. Disable lyrics download for track/album (in case they're downloaded wrong)
5. LyricsMania lyrics provider

Yes, although quite busy. Until recently -- with the more mundane part of life. At the moment -- some secret project for Fremantle. ;) If all goes well, I'll get it into an acceptable shape before the weekend and then dedicate more time to my other projects. OMP of course included. :)

Ok :-) If you need some help with OMP write. Btw, what do you think about OMP stability? Could it part of CSSU (devel/testing) if other CSSU people accept it? Problem which I see is starting speed (+ hildon-status-menu freeze)

Yes, I agree that it is a good thing to be able to black N900's screen while the video is being played through TV-out. That's why it should be one of options:
0. Pause everything like default media player;
1. Pause nothing like Open Media Player now;
2. Pause video and play audio, jumping to needed point in video when unblacking the display.
Anything more complicated - like, switching between 1-and-2 depending on whether TV-out cable is used or not - can be achieved in other, external applications - like, the one which detects when TV-out cable is being used.

Just messing here of course, anyway the bottom line is an Option won't do harm - that is it.

I download video-audio files (mp3-mp4) from news website - yes, official website, and no, they don't use ugly flash-based protection against copying (I don't have strength to fight against rptm-streaming-or-whatever anymore, especially when I prefer old classical films anyway; though I am curious why ogg videos aren't supported on Maemo yet - I still cannot watch "Death Rides a Horse"). I prefer to listen to news at night, going to sleep, in headset; under these circumstances, watching video is not necessary, and is detrimental to health (the eyes are tired from computer screen as it is).
Best wishes. Thank you.

I would like to see some of these open source replacements actually replace the closed source ones in the near future of CSSU.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

open media player would be a good usability feature of cssu:p

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

in terms of feature parity, how close is omp to providing a 100% compatible replacement? as long as it can at least meet the functionality of stock mp then i would like to see it go to devel if not testing.

maybe having enhancements over original as a build option to generate a 100% replacement or an enhanced version via extras still.

stock mp still seems a little happier with some videos for some reason, even if they take two attemps to open. might be a dsp boost or mafw issue though.

stickymick 2013-07-08 17:19

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Just being able to resize the video to full screen has been enough for me to use OMP more than the stock video player.

And I can +1 about the screenshots. Even with Ctrl+Shift+P they show up black in the gallery. But being able to see the videos playing in the thumbnails is a cool effect.

I already wrote that screenshots are not possible. Video is played on top and is hidden for all Maemo applications. This is reason why CTRL+SHIFT+P show only black screen. Maemo does not see any video playback...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

A bug I had very often is that it says a video cannot be played, but after a few tries it plays the video O.o I saw this bug at stock player and OMP. I still hope someone can fix this.

The bug with the lyrics marmistrz mentioned is really annoying. Often you cannot scroll through the lyrics or there is empty space.

How about a tagger integrated in OMP? It would be nice to give songs the right information, so it can be sorted correctly. I know there is already an app "Mussorgsky", but it can only edit tags of mp3 files and it would be more comfortable to do it right in the player. Just an idea.

OMP is really awesome and I don't use the stock player because OMP is much better! I hope there will be more great updates for it.

Sometimes tracks get "unknown artist/../././unknown everything". It's something with tracker, but re-touching (or re-metadating) does the trick. Maybe it could be implemented into omp?

tracker issue i've experienced as well, random tracks each time. it likes to do silly things from time to time, like list 1 photo 4/5 times in gallery.
