I have also /usr/sbin/tohkbd running. Is this from tohkbd 1 that i also have?

Ok, by disabling tohkbd.service this new keyboard started working.

Seems reasonable.
As i can do what ever i want with the sw, and i even might listen to users.

yes, that is for tohkbd rev 1. It will cause race conditions on i2c etc.
uninstall the tohkbd package completely.

Re: TOHKBD rev2

So, while I'm (im)patiently waiting on my qwerty keyboard (ordered though funkyotherhalf at the beginning of the kickstarter campaign), I'm wondering about the software side.

I have to type French and also German texts on a regular basis, and on the desktop, I make ample use of the compose key for accents and umlauts.
Are there any plans to support the compose key in general / in the upcoming layout configurator? Or would this have to be supported on the OS side first?

I just hope that I can put it onto the radar of our development heros for the not-so-distant future.

Cheers,

usenix

Re: TOHKBD rev2

On a similar matter, I have to type in English and French everyday. I don't mind keeping only one layout for that (it's too annoying to change each time I change language, even with the touch keyboard), but what would be really convenient would be merged dictionnaries and suggestions. Is that even possible? It's not directly related to the TOHKBD software side, but it's still related and perhaps Kimmo knows the answer?

I am waiting yet my qwerty TOHKBD at Spain. It is #104 and was marked as sent (or going to be sent) the first day the google drive document appeared (June the 17th).

As a mac user I'd love to have ctrl-q to quit app and ctrl-w to close tab... But ideally, these should be configurable in the OS, so everyone could have what they want.

Is there any plans getting suggestions available even from a single dictionary? Now that the virtual keyboard is hidden when using TOHBD also the language selection and suggestions are hidden.

This is useful if you need to write in a language which you do not know completely and even though you can get the grammar right, the spelling is quite a bit more complicated, such as French for many English-speaking learners.

Ideally, the autocomplete could be turned on or off in the settings to appease both those that don't find it helpful, and those that find it helpful.

or binded to ALT or whatever, why not increase your typing speed!?

but don't know if this is possible, other stuff needs to be fixed first

I hope it will be possible.

Not so sure, the first Azerty were delivered long ago and still waiting mine despite a low order number. I guess it depends on the color combinations and stuff.

Jolla invoker[1287]: WARNING: Xt9: not supported language "toh"

The language is set in the configuration file for the keyboard layout, atm it is minimized TOHKBD when kbd is attached.
However with coming sailfish update (not propably on next yet) the Maliit server is going to support VKB hiding when external keyboard is connected, so even this minimized will go away.

Need to check is it even possible then to use Xt9 with external keyboard, iirc i tested it by changing language to something else than "toh", and it kinda worked. But it requires the current TOHKBD vkb layout to access the suggestions. Also, there would need to be TOHKBD config file for every language..

A colleague told me there was a parcel for me today at work. I immediately started to get excited, and focused on hiding it because, you know, getting excited for a stupid smartphone's keyboard would be lame. But still, 30 sec later I was trying to get my package.

I ended up with a bunch of plastic boxes to archive microtubes. I hate everything today.

Got mine today, #28 qwertz and I'm delighted. Thanks Dirk, Andrew and Kimmo.

Just one question, that has probably Bern asked before, but I couldn't find it:

Is there a way to disapbe the virtual kbd in terminal APP?

Cheers Jo

I ordered new Polished Metallic Plastic (alumide) TOH Casing from Shapeways last friday and it arrived today. I just did not like look of my original white - alumide combo. Hassle free business with Shapeways - very pleased. Anybody else wondering about different colors, just upload TOH_casing.STL to https://www.shapeways.com/mymodels?li=nav from https://github.com/dirkvl/TOHKBD/tree/master/CAD to get the ball rolling.

Today there was a nice surprise waiting for me in the mail.. a pretty black/black/carbon qwertz tohkbd :).. i must say i am very pleased with it. gotta get used to type with it ofc. the only things i miss for now are layout settings, button (combination) for closing apps and support for android apps. the first feeling when i attached it to my jolla reminded me on n900 with it's thickness and it is a nice memory. i feel home again! big thanks to the whole team that made this possible.

the only key that needs more force is the letter 'p'. will see how it progresses.

- typed on tohkbd rev2

wOOt wOOt, 165 arrived, though one is qwertz :/

yes, typed on a tohkbd (looks like the backlight is also bit wonky)

the other seems fine

dirk: qwertz layout purple kbd will be going your way

(backlight is fine after toggling on/off through settings, so just the layout)
