How do you do that with IMAP? I mean, Modest says it needs to retrieve mail content before opening it when you are offline, so I don't see how it is possible to answer a message without connection.

I just play Numpty Physics or watch some TV shows with MPlayer when I'm offline. :D

I just want to be able to check and use my "recreational" email accounts. For better or worse, I have a ~10 year old Yahoo account that probably 90% of my family/friends etc use to contact me. I know I could go through the process of moving them to Gmail, but... I kindof like my Yahoo account. Not much there to concern me regarding backups, although I do archive a few of my emails, and I back up my SD cards 2-3x per month as it is.

I have vascillated between forwarding my Yahoo mails to Gmail and using Imap/Modest, but I would want the option to reply using either email address, as well as it would be nice to have different inboxes. The most simple thing would be if Modest would just work as every other POP mail program does and allow me to send emails.

Ah, well, maybe something will come about. Maybe Modest will be fixed to work w/ Yahoo POP, or better yet, maybe Yahoo will start allowing Imap access.

I can see all the headers, but when I try to open a message to read it I get a blank screen. This occurs whether or not the message has been previously read.

I can read and compose a reply to all my Gmail/IMAP emails offline, only if I have previously opened it. I have it set to download "headers only". I assume that if you set it to download "messages and attachments" it would allow you to read and compose a reply offline..

edit: hmm, now that I am playing with it a bit, those emails that I can open offline in Gmail are the ones either in my "Inbox" or in a local folder. I cannot open emails that are in the "Gmail" server folders (i.e "All Mail", "Drafts" etc.). I guess that makes sense though.

The SMTP server for my primary email account uses authenticated TLS, and I've not had any trouble using it with Modest.

doesn't do that to me. You must be using POP?
I've not seen such behavior with POP3 (or IMAP), so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions.

I don't, I answer them while still online. I'm online anyway so I do it then. However there is an option to download the message which suggests that you can reply offline. But then you'll get error messages until you're online anyway.

I haven't investigated very much, claws works just fine with my SMTP.

Not making assumptions, it was a question. And mine doesn't act like that either.......

Exactly. That option to pre-download e-mails does not work.

Yes, it is what I do. I only delete the messages from Gmail server when I download them in my office (using Thunderbird).

I think the concern is that when using POP mail, the server doesn't save messages you've sent.
