Hi everyone!
Just joined yesterday and my N900 should arrive next week :)
I'm a little late to the party but it's been a long trip to find a linux gadget in a pocket.
I've played around with Familiar Linux on a Compaq iPAQ years ago, loaded iPodLinux on my first generation iPod Nano and even thought about getting an OpenMoko device.
I'm glad I waited for the N900.
Can't wait!

Ello to the maemo comunity your all awesome people. I have had my N900 "linux monster" for quite a while since last 08/2010 its a love and hate thing lol but its all good... i've gotten very good at using the abilities of the N900 "noob proof" and i hope to be a beneficial part of the community.

Hello first time here ! i don't have a N900 but i wanna it !

I have to choice between the n900 and the motorola defy...
Itīs too late to by a n900 ? my concern its about the nokia support and the android is more "mature" now.
But i am really happy to see a great community like the maemo.org and iam thinking to get the n900 anyway.

Hi all,

Had the N900 for around 15 months now, been lurking for a while but finally got round to registering. Think it's an awesome device and does some amazing things (web browser is still the best i've used since its release), but annoyed at lack of Nokia support.

I'm glad that the community are still very much supporting it would be totally dead had you not been so great and developing great new apps all the time! So thanks :)

Re: New members say hello !

Hi,
Looking foward to using this site regularly, now that I've become a bit more patient with my device and realise that there's a lot more learning to do.
The reason why I joined is, I just installed FMMS. I tried sending an MMS and it failed and said that my settings were not correct. I googled 'how to setup FMMS on my N900' and it's saying that I need to create Devel catalogue, and that to be careful because it could wipe my entire phone. So not sure what to do. Is it really this complicated to start doing MMS. I would really appreiate any help.

Thanks

Re: New members say hello !

Hello,

Just recently purchased a n900 from Amazon. To be honest, still debating on whether or not I should keep it, not only from a financial standpoint but also from a product longevity standpoint.

From what I have seen of this geeky community thus far, support should be alive and kicking at least for the next year or so. If only this little powerhouse had the battery of my e71 :).

P.S. If anyone has any technical expertise with fixing speaker issues with an e71, please let me know! It seems that my waterproof bag ended up not being as waterproof as originally thought. While the water damage indicator doesn't register any water damage, the device did get wet while on my most recent jaunt to Finland (of all places! haha).

Re: New members say hello !

'ello all,

Friend of mine on here, Kingoddball, has an N900, and I'm just wondering what I need to do, or kill, to get it off him!

Seriously, nerd from way back in the 90s when I got my first computer, used Macs all through school, played with Netware, Windows, then Linux.

Back on Macs, of course, nothing better. Except Debian. Haha.

I do alot of "unusual" stuff. At the moment, I'm negotiating for a HP dual core, dual processor Xeon, which I'm going to load up with Toshiba SpursEngines. Why? Cause I can!

Also looking into Doppler radar using the Cell - but I'm sure you want to hear my N900 experiences.

As I said, I drool all over Kingoddballs phone, and he tells me many a tall tale about dialing from the command line (the height of geekiness) and running chroots. I own a BeagleBoard/ PandaBoard, don't know which one I'm keeping at the moment (hello Kingoddball!) so I'm with you guys, in spirit!

Anyway, anything to do with computers, radios, phones or electronics, I love. And if its unusual, I love it even more.

Also looking into getting a GSM base station running when Ettus Research releases his new card later in the year. Once again, cause I can! :D

In a couple of days time, I'll post about the Wild Ducks, Kingoddball says you guys might like it.

Until next time...

Hello, I bought my n900 second-hand a few weeks ago, found this site and installed everything including kitchen sink and remote-toilet-flusher :p but managed to mess thing up when installing bleeding edge drivers on powerkernel 47 on low battery (no initfs) and went into boot loop.

I did manage to rescue the phone by flashing kernel only but then couldn't install anything anymore.

Now completely reflashed, installed power kernel again and currently installing cssu:)

thank you to all people developing for this computer-phone.

Re: New members say hello !

Posted this in diff thread, but this one's more appropriate. Wanted to say what's up to every1 here on the site. BY NO MEANS am i a developer, nor a hacker/programmer but a HUGE fan of this OS. I don't even own a N900 or any piece of Maemo technology. Love Nokia products. Just from reading blogs/forums & watching different videos, & seeing the different things this OS is capable of, seems like my kind of OS. Love tinkering with my devices, (altering settings & features to make it a more personal experience) & can't wait for this N9/N950 to come out, as it will be my first Maemo/Meego device. Now for the million dollar question, does anyone think i should stay away from this type of device, being that it's known as a "geek" or developer/hacker device ? I mean, i'm a carpenter for christ sake....lol. Dying for a new phone, currently have a E71, & would literally HATE to go the Apple route.... Any advice would be appreciated....

i don't know why we mere mortals can't own or use this phone. :) i'm no dev as well but i like it. and the fact that the N900's being supported by a great community makes owning one even more fun. i bet you can feel the passion around here.
i'd warn you about the battery though... you're coming from an E71 and from what i've heard it's got really great battery life.

edit: i forgot i dropped by this thread to say hello! hehe lots of warmth and sunshine from the Philippines! :)
