Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

ive been following this tutorial and this virtual box is a real pain, especially as ive never used it before. Got it working but now I can't get it to pick up the n900 or memory card reader in the partition app, it does recognise it in the main screen tho. wierd

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

ok got it working now. Bit confused tho as I have a 4gb card, I am partitioning 2048mb as ext 3, can I partition the rest as ext 3 or does it have to be fat32?

Yoy can partition it pretty much however you want after that, you can for example use NTFS if you want.

Hi!

2 Questions about Installation-Tutorial from
http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install

1. "To be able to run NITDroid you need to flash your device."
If I flash, I am loosing my current Maemo-Installation?
I think it should be mentioned in the "warning" area.

2."Write "sudo su". Then you write "gparted"."
Is it confirmed that gparted should be replaced by using fdisk, because gparted-created-partition seems to cause problems?

Very interesting project!

One last Question about 3D GPU,
did someone contact those guys over at
http://code.google.com/p/rowboat/
if they are interested in helping getting andoid + 3D to work fpr n900?

badboyuk 2010-06-25 16:01

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

tried rebooting, but still no wifi and cant make any calls/txts as it doesn't detect a network.
This is really odd.
Can anyone help please........ :)

Sounds cool. Altough it says OMAP35xx, it shouldn't have any problem with N900's 3430.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

one little question...

the zImage-0.0.4 kernel, is it an overclockable kernel?

Descalzo 2010-06-25 17:16

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Yes you need to flash and if you use the commands stated in the tutorials you shouldn't lose anything. I didn't. But you had better back up first!!!!!

They say the kernel is overclockable, but I don't overclock.

badboyuk 2010-06-25 17:54

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

ive realised i cant install any apps or do much coz of the size of the partition is over 3gigs, I just followed the guide.
I am now trying to repartition it but the funny thing is that gparted says its formatted it but shows up in the computer section as if its not done anything, all the files are there.
this is really frustrating

GParted works good for me, so it should for everyone else(besides, GParted is easier to use IMO). And no the only flashing you do is flashing the kernel which doesn't affect the internal rootfs.

EDIT: Also to resize you'll need to unmount the disks, right click the one with Android and choose, unmount, then you can resize it.

another thing i have noted is it shows signal bars in my wifi network, but as soon as i select it to connect. all the signal bars are gone.
just to make sure that my wifi signals are fine, i booted android 2.1 and its connected perfectly. so i guess there is something wrong in wifi threshold values in android 2.2

same problem here. I can confirm this behavior.

Hoping for a quick fix

good job dj_steave, i just want to know, will android on the n900 be final ?? and will it have the android marketplace, and i don't know if you can do that, but try this, : an app called nitdroid that-when u pess it-restart the phone in android. that will be cool, anyway i'll try it on my phone when its stable and won't cause any damage, well at least just a bit of damage.

I done a reboot then went into the wifi and network settings and messed around there and it somehow started working again :)
Ive reinstalled and repartitioned the sd card to 2gigs nw as i cudnt install any apps so will give it a bash shortly an see how it is then.
I wish the network worked for calls/txts tho, that wud be a neat bonus.
Thanks to the author of this great mod/software hack, keep up the good work and I would support this project if I knew any programming etc :-P

also phone is being looked at but as per usual for nokia being rather annoying

Yes sure phone is here more important, but I meant those guys at rowboat could do the other part, because they are more advanced and so it could be done more easily by them. Only a thought.

unfortunatly its for 3560 cpu for a start point, and second the n900 at min wouldn boot with the required kernel version

It's really exciting to read about the progress with Android.
And now Froyo in the works is really nice:D

I have really learned alot since I bought the N900.
Tweaking and coding to enhance it's performance.
This just by tips and tricks from the community.
Thank you!

But making the N900 dualboot Android seems really to be above my head in knowledge.
I'm wondering if it'll ever will become easy for a noob like me to get Android working on my precious?
I really want to get it working but it's my main phone at the moment and I i'm afraid that i'll totally brick it. I'm a breaker you know..

Well, lovelly work you all involved in this project :)

dj_steve 2010-06-25 21:35

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

you cant brick the n900 without physically droppign it onto concrete (gotta give nokia credit for the way they have designed the recovery routines

ok im downloading froyo and zImage-4 now

are these correct?

dj_steve 2010-06-25 21:53

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

yup as long as it the newer froyo buiild (e-yes.nitdroid.com link), be warned you WILL have to set a static ip for wifi to get it going at the min.

howto quicky:
go into wifi settings, press menu (ctrl/sym) select advanced, scroll down adn pick the static ip box then enter details as needed below. then you will be able to connect happily to wifi network

also has anyone got any spare ddr ram kicking around lol. gettign a bit tired of my dev box eating 100-400mb into swap when building things.

Code:

dev-nas:~# free -m
total      used      free    shared    buffers    cached
Mem:          597        591          6          0        374        28
-/+ buffers/cache:        188        409
Swap:      482683        135    482547

dont ask how i have 500gb of swap, very longggg story

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Hey what DDR? just standard DDR1 or DDR2? i might have a few lying around :) And what speeds 266 400 800? :D

Btw how many ram slots you got free left??

dj_steve 2010-06-25 22:02

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

ddr1, mobos capable of ddr400 - only got 2 slots but only got a 512mb & 128mb in at min so quite happy to scrap those

wifi working with static ip! any chance to install apps manualy, if so, how?

dj_steve 2010-06-25 22:37

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

you need to find apps - google for android apks or similar and download said apk file then copy it into the /system/app folder on mem card and android will install it itself

I installed Flash Player 10.1 but couldn't make it work unfortunately. By the way, I found a nice benchmark program which is working in current FroYo build, maybe it could be useful(e-yes wanted one IIRC):
