Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I just installed CSSU
Stable
21.2011.38-1Smaemo4.1.

Is that the latest version i've installed CSSU a bunch of times cause i screwed it every time so i had to flash but now it's time to make it properly so should i get any newer version of CSSU or is that the latest i have and someone help me with default catalogues i know its not the right thread to talk about catalogues but since no one helped me in the other threads i thought i should try here. So about the catalogues before flashing i still used skeiron's because they had the latest updates for the apps i am useing every single catalogue except of extras-testing and now i use the same catalogues but with the default link's and i don't have the latest apps so i don't know what to do i used every advice in the other threads and including X-Terminal's code's but nothing is done

P.S. i installed the CSSU stable from wiki.maemo.org
and i dont have screen rotation but the last time (1 month ago) i installed it the same way and i had it

This is not related to Thumb.
Please start a new thread, explaining your problems clearly.
Include what versions you have and what you want to do.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Hmm there's a problem with the testing repo, I think. Coming from a reflash and wanted to install thumb again. It keeps complaining about not finding
rtcom-messaging-ui-portrait, upstart and another 2.

Tried Skeiron mirror, as posted in some previous post but then it starts complaining about not finding libmaemosec-certman0

Meanwhile at time of writing;
Nevermind, enabling both fixes the issue. However that implies some packages are missing from both sides?

Never used apt-get upgrade yet

Retry now, should be fixed (force HAM to update catalogs first)

After installing this most recent thumb update my N900 has now changed to Portrait mode (unless I open the keyboard). How would I switch back to Landscape please?

Thanks

have you enabled the "orientation lock" applet?
If yes, disable it.

check it out. it's at the dropdown aplets menu

Had the same problem. Disabling and reenabling orientation lock applet solved the problem.

Had the rotation problem, thanks for the fix.

For some reason, the new non-Thumb kernel is coming up on Application Manager update. I only just updated Thumb because I couldn't be bothered messing with repos but the non-Thumb update is still coming up.

_David_ - kp52 has thumb patches. It can be used with cssu thumb.

On the slim chance I'm not the only one confused, is the kernel not included in CSSU Thumb? Or is this kernel in the Thumb repo?

I installed it over CSSU Thumb anyway and nothing died.;)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I just wanted to say thanks for this wonderful OS update. It truly enhances the N900 in so many ways!

I just installed it yesterday on a newly flashed phone, so I haven't worked on it much, but the portrait mode, along with the task switching keyboard shortcuts are worth the price of admission alone.

And the phone does seem to even boot faster (not sure if that's possible with CSSU-Thumb). Not to mention lower memory consumption.

Excellent job!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Quick question: Does kernel-cssu allow overclocking? I thought it was just KP51 r1 repackaged, but I don't even have kernel-config in my system.

Do I need to install the kernel-power-settings package to enable overclocking?

And, how about the packet injection wireless drivers?

Just trying to get an idea about how cssu-kernel differs from KP51 r1

Thanks for cssu thumb.

That's an amazingly low system load for flac decoding. And that's a sick desktop. How did you set that up? Is it QBCW?

Search in repo for "conky". it's not a desktop.

And in detail there is a preconfigured version with that shown layout Conky 1.9.7-1

As I recall, conky 1.6.1-0maemo5-1.1 from extras does not have this layout.

I see, thanks to both of you. I have Conky but it's the previous version with a different layout.

Sure, but I think it is better to report it on BM thread and ask there.

EDIT:
What other things happened?

I think they mean that it started after cssu update. Still, I'm using latest CSSU-Thumb here, and no such weridos.

Are you sure, guys, that you're not using fresh, new version of bootmenu from Pali? I vaguely remember he was saying something about "fixing" colors and text2screen, on which backupmenu interface is based...

I'm using Backupmenu the last version 1.2.0.1
http://maemo.org/packages/view/backupmenu/

but I didn't see if the problem is related to bootmenu...

Quick question: What repos can be enabled when using Thumb? Only the Thumb repositories?

The whole purpose of Thumb is that it runs using the Thumb ISA, and only binaries in the Thumb repos have that architecture. Does this sound OK, or am I mistaken?

You got it wrong, the purpose of CSSU-thumb is to support thumb2-compiled binaries in addition to the ordinary ARM-only compiled ones.

So, you can enable whatever repos you want.

I see, thank you. So even if the OS itself is Thumb2 ISA, you can still use ARM binaries because the CPU supports them. Except I suppose if a Thumb2 version of a binary is available, then it is preferable. That makes sense.

Exactly. Otherwise it would be rather pointless
There are less than a hand full of Thumb compiled applications.

Kerio 2013-04-22 19:41

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

To be fair, CSSU-thumb recompiles as Thumb2 quite a huge number of system binaries; most of the speedup comes from the better compiler, though, rather than the more efficient ISA.

Do you mean before or after installing last CSSU thumb update ? Or are you talking about the very first thumb installation ? Well, i've been using backupmenu for ages and i really don't remember whether it was installed before or after first thumb version. Anyway, how about we move that discussion to backupmenu thread ? :)
