I do believe that's actually a good guess done by 'mcnobody'. If this is true, 'fabricating' a 'phony' IMEI is somewhat 'daring', to say the least (though possible). because to make it unique would require 'blind guessing', I think. The IMEI also represents the actual phone model, fyi (as this 'crucial' piece of information was missing).

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

I haven't used my N900 for a couple of months, now my daily driver is N9 and I am still able to use Whatsup, although I receive some messages with a slight delay. Do you guys have any idea why WhatsApp doesn't ban Whatsup users? If the reason was "wrong" IMEI, I presume that N9 users should also be banned, and yet they are not.

that's interesting Information; ceene explained in this thread earlier on, N9 users also suffer from beeing banned. perhaps, you're just one lucky guy..?

I think would be worth exploring one last time IMEI and N9's Whatsup if they can bring some kind of solution to this.
Anyway, thanks to the Ceene for trying to repair our Yappari! And if the Telegram will take over, it is still better than nothing.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

so... would Yappari-telegram be developed?
as for me it's even better. The most of my contacts use Viber which is awful and Telegram, even more than Whatsapp.
The only things I hate about Telegram are
1) chats are not secure by default
2) SMS-auth which is a security hole since SS7 protocol was hacked

These few days I try to use Yappari ver 2.0.27 build 5228 and it's work fine. I can send and receive the message and multimedia content without any problems.

When Yappari ask you for sim registration, just skip this step ( I registered my SIM card already a long time ago :) ) or try to register your sim on android device.

I can send message but not receive, maybe depending the whatsapp version on the other side, if whatsapp client other side are up to date or not

Brodyga 2016-06-08 15:47

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Other side whatsapp client version is 2.12.439 on Blackberry

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Latest version of WhatsApp available for Android and iOS uses encryption (not sure about BB) that can be reason why you are not able to receive messages but can send messages.

Yes it works especially if you have a different sim in the N900. But you will not be able to rceive encrypted messages and yours will disapear when detected. And once they know you they will be banned. Am sure you would not last long.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

What do you say about development client Telegram? There is open source code and good APIs. I wanted to write a client application in Java, but it would be better if the app will write in the native platform language.

View info about Telegram API: https://core.telegram.org/api#getting-started
Source code Qt-based clients (Win, Lin, X): https://github.com/telegramdesktop/tdesktop
Source code Android client: https://github.com/DrKLO/Telegram

And unofficial CLI-version client: https://github.com/vysheng/tg

I think if You post the source code, then other developers of applications for Maemo will join You.

Thx!

I've thought about writing a compatibility layer between Yappari and https://github.com/Kaffeine/telegram-qt

I have been able to compile this project succesfully for Maemo, so it can be done.

I need, homewever, some time to disconnect from this so I can go back with some energy :)

1. tdesktop or telegram-qt? If first, that very good!!! But where great compatibility with Android client?
2. It's great! Take my energy :D

No, tdesktop is too modern for our little machine. telegram-qt only a qt based library implementing telegram protocol.

The idea is to reuse yappari's gui to connect to this library. This way I don't have to care about Telegram protocol as upstream will do it for me, and my only concern would interfacing our current interface with that library.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Nonononono....
this just won't do...
can't take time away from this man...
I got a new love in my life...
I mourned long enough of my ex...
6 months...
It was time to get busy and frisky again ;D
So a few months ago I found me a sex powered and driven, loyal, devoted, faithful and true, good catholic chica from veracruz now ... who wants to marry me, cook with me (I do love cooking and baking), love me forever, and scrog me until I die of a heart attack.

So good ol' Paully here ...
(never thought I'd being saying this EVER...)
good ol' Paully here reaaaalllllyyyy needs to stay in touch when not with her...
sigh...
so ... dammit....
I recant...
Social media apps ARE truly necessary when one is in lust...I mean love..errrr.... both.
she uses whatsapp to keep in touch with me..
and is more than happy to use an alternative....
so...
sigh..
I NEED WHATSAPP OR AN ALTERNATIVE.
as it stands..
I have been using (shudder) a cheap android phone...
(boy... saying that leaves a horrible taste in my mouth..)
to type ...um.. words of endearment back and forth with her.. when not together..
and it of course would be preferable to use my n900 instead.

So man.... no rest for the wicked... get busy.

(and of course ..
I cannot say voice my thanks enough ...
for everyone's kind words..and support through a very horrible time...
enough of all the weepy crap.
time to get lovin'
hehe..)

the big question is ...
how many microwavable hot pockets do you need to burn through this...

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Nobody wants that Android crap anyway. SFOS on the N5 with sfdroid installed or multibooting NITdroid on the N900 could be the solution in your case. That project is about to get mature AFAIK.

been a looooong time since I used pidgin....
like way back on one of my n800's

I NEED WHATSAPP OR AN ALTERNATIVE.

I feel your pain. Every girl I meet wants to chat on WhatsApp and I'm forced to suggest that we chat on other inferior proprietary chat protocols that they do use. I was very anti-WhatsApp for a long time but since they've enforced end-to-end encryption, I've given in and am willing to use it (see my rant in the Sailfish thread), the only problem is that I can't. The encryption puts it ahead most other proprietary solutions, even ahead of Telegram in my book, which still goes through a centralised server but doesn't enforce end-to-end encryption. I don't know anyone who uses Telegram so I'm not going to ask anyone to switch to that, especially as I consider it to be inferior.

The WhatsApp web client has already been discussed in this thread and was ruled out but perhaps it offers the best hope and we should look into a way to make it work on the N900.

We would need to get the N900 to generate the unique ID that is normally generated by the mobile app after it scans the QR code.

Have a look at this:

https://github.com/hayageek/WhatsApp-Web

I haven't looked into it in much detail but it appears to do what we need.

Once this has been implemented, maybe Yappari could be modified to use the REST API of the web client.

sicelo 2016-06-12 19:42

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

i think you are missing something ..
whatsapp web needs you to have a supported device online at the same time as you use the web interface ... so it's pointless for those of us who only have N900. This is not a once-off requirement ...

Or have we misunderstood something?

wicket 2016-06-12 19:52

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

I realise this. What I'm trying to say is that maybe the N900 could be made to act as a supported device. It might be easier to implement only the part of the mobile app that allows the web client to work, rather than implement the whole protocol and encryption which has caused developers problems.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

hahaha....
ah thanks wicket...
good to know there is a lonely n900 hearts club!
hahaha
"and ... yes... I too am a member..." :D

as far as whatsapp web goes...
oh I have become quite adept at it's usage...
incredible what one does in the name of testosteronic need.

Now I do know that I use my n900's phone number no problem to sign up for whatsapp and use an android (piece of crap) to chat on... and utilize whatsapp web on my laptop... so use case there works. Or I've been hallucinating my chats.

so I see no difficulty in say... having an android phone...(number on it and whatsapp) in your pocket..
and utilizing whatsapp web on a n900.
technically it should work...
you'd think...
as long as you can scan the code.

just an idea....

I for one will not get a phone number for the android phone.
so I am not about to go that far.

You see no problem using both Android and Whatsit but you see a problem getting an anonymous, disposable, prepaid SIM card with zero credit for $0.99? Strange...

But you've crossed that line already!!! You've succumbed to the Android's lure in the name of lust love (BTW, allow me to join juiceme in congratulating you). You've made the journey of 1000 steps and refuse to take the 1001st ;)

A little unclear... The connection model as yappari?

The interface will be native and terrible? Or is it colored and beautiful? :D

Nope, not following it in any way. Have my own projects and tasks to do, no time for it.

And we have cutegram

and this: https://github.com/TelepathyQt/telepathy-morse

/edit: telegram-qt builds ok, telepathy-morse is missing some cmake files, have no time to dig it further.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

we have cutegram for n900?
point me in the right direction then....

I would rather install cutegram than use an android (shudder) device for telegram...
ah..right I found it...haha you pretty much were pointing at it. morse is missing bits of
cmake ....riiiiiigghht...

marmistrz 2016-07-08 20:51

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Cutegram would have to be compiled.

And I guess that Morse would build without much trouble once we've worked the cmake stuff around.
But I've no time for it, 3 projects at a time is 'nuff.
Feel free to try it yourself.

Telegram plugin with Pidgin on N900 works pretty well.. Why would you need an Android device?
Would love to see a Telegram version with Yappari interface, but for now the Telegram plugin works fine for me.
