Re: TOHKBD rev2

My tohkbd's TOH part didn't fit the phone very well when I received it; that is, the middle holder on the button side didn't "snap in", resulting in the TOH being a bit loose on that side, with a small gap in the middle. When examining the TOH I noticed that the fitting of the circuit board into the TOH was so tight that when the board was in place, it bent the side of the TOH outward ever so slightly, and as a result, one of the little bumps in the TOH didn't get caught in the corresponding hole on the phone side.

So, I took the board out of the TOH, carefully sandpapered a little bit out of its left and right side, and put it back. Now the TOH snaps in properly. And the board is not loose or anything, it still fits in snugly and stays in place.

So, good thing it wasn't glued! :)

drivers, instructions, ANYTHING?
maybe in the 1st post?

EDIT: rebooted a couple times and removed / added TOHKBD a couple times did the trick
now... backlit doesn't work properly (see pic attached)
Ctrl+C doesn't work (neither of the two)

I don't have a tohkbd yet (and I'm leaving for holidays :() so I can't tell for sure, but I think the software installs automatically when you snap the toh on. You shouldn't need any instructions except if you want pre-releases. Please excuse me tohkbd team if I'm wrong.

Actually, it's still not completely hidden. There is this completely blank, slim bar at the bottom. If we can't make it disappear, maybe it can be made useful, showing the suggestions there?

Q6: I have AZERTY/QWERTZ layout, but i get qwerty characters when i type with it?
Or rather: How long before I can use my QWERTZ like a QWERTZ?

Much more work is necessary on the software. Some of it will only be effective with SfOS 2.

I think, even more interesting question - how to write in second language, as I can't swithch layout at all? I already think about uninstalling software and use TOHKBD as awesome fridge magnet :)

A: Jolla Sailfish 1.1.6.27 version (and older) does not support changing keyboard layout. We need to wait for sailfish update. Current layout does not support compose or special chars outside of pc-105 US layout. The settings are grayed out becaused they do not work yet.

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I just installed the latest version from Jolla store. Layout switching works, but ['; instead of והצ on the scandic layout and similar with the german layout.
I'm guessing it's a known issue, but I wanted to ask just to make sure..

It will go away, just need to wait few SFOS updates.
Thats why i would not put much effort on this, as it will break in few months.

got mine 4 days ago

the keys are still quite stiff so i can't type that fast yet.
the back cover fitting isn't so tight and it can come off easily.
the shapeways printed plastic also gets dirty quite easily

ok, now that i have gotten the negatives out of the way, let me just say that i f***ing love it!!!!! it is weird but my hands automatically started behaving like i was using the n900' keyboard again. i have found freedom!!!

i slide the keyboard open to use the phone instead of double tapping the screen
i love the home, end, ins, delete and 4 way directional pad on the left
the shortcuts to launch apps and task switcher are really convenient
i love xterm again :)
and for some odd reason, the added thickness of the phone feels better in my hands.
ctrl-a, ctrl-c, ctrl-v - need i say more??? :) :)

a big thank you to all the folks who have made this toh possible!!!

you described my feelings :D there is one thing that is bothering me. Sometimes when i slide out the keyboard screen unlocks and sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone have same behavior?

Re: TOHKBD rev2

1. Notifications are NOT shown when in lock screen.
2. Phone probably sleeps, and because TOH interrupt does not wake it up, it does not unlock immediately. Wave your hand over phone proximity after sliding out, and it wakes up.

I've just got mine, 4 keys in the qwerty row sometimes did not register, but after about 100 presses they are mostly ok.

For those in Russia: I've got it in common post office after receiving notification in mailbox. That's great IMO, since it could sometimes be difficult to hunt down delivery guys.

So far I like it, looking forward to using it! Thanks TOHKBD team!

Yes. I can now select Scandinavian layout (+ others) but it does not work. No צה yet when using SMS or browser.

After updating to 1.17.24 my TOHKBD2 does not get recognized at all. Am I the only one with the problem?

It was said* that the support is half way there, which probably means that the UI bit is done.

Today TOHKBD No.1250 arrived at my home in Vienna. It works fine. It fully meets all my expectations. The wooden maple backplate is so nice to look at. I am really happy.
What Dirk, Andrew and Kimmoli did is just outstanding. They made a dream come true for a lot of people. After a long, long time my N900 now has a successor. :) As left handed person I also very much appreciate the cursor-keys on the left side. Maximum comfort! ;)
Let's hope the Team at Jolla supports in a bold and dedicated way on the software side of things because the TOHKBD project has well deserved their attention.

Functionality is ok with my TOHKBD after update, but i have not seen the backlight in function since then :/
EDIT, another reboot did it. Working completely again now.

#278, cyrillic layout, received ok in Finland. Works fine so far.
Can't yet use cyrillic letters though - cyrillic layout in stock application is disabled, and setting Russian layout in text input settings for hardware keyboards doesn't change anything.

Maybe your TOH eeprom is corrupted?

You can start also manually.

Re: TOHKBD rev2

Received my TOHKB two days ago, and I'm absolutely overwhelmed! Andrew, Dirk and Kimmo, thank you so much for bringing back that special N900 feeling :D

There have been only two little problems thus far: 'u' key needs quite some force to register a key press, and the TOH part comes off rather quickly. Used some paper and now it fits perfectly.

I noticed that Android apps aren't included in the alt+tab task switcher, could this be included in a future software update?

Casanunda 2015-07-17 11:22

Re: TOHKBD rev2

Same for me - the keyboard is great, but my "u" key needs quite a lot of force to register (while the haptic feedback ist just as on any other button.

I had some trouble with the connected keyboard losing connection every few seconds, but then I found out it was a self-made problem:
I had a sheet of paper from the "fix-loose-battery-with-strip-of-paper-hack" sticking out from the battery that made the TOH part not sit tight enough on the phone itself.
After fixing that, no more connection issues :)

I contacted dirlvl and although mine was on the list it hadn't made it to the post office yet. So have to be patient. Maybe kill time waiting by making up acronyms...

How about

TOOTOTOHKBDFUS

BTW, I can't believe I am TOOFUS to order one! Glad you're not TOOTOFUK!

Seems the problem with the u-key is a common pattern here, since its the same for me (QWERTZ-Layout). Haptics feel identical to the other keys, but "u" needs quite a bit more force to register. Other than that the TOHKBD is working fantastically for me :)
