Would love to see a Telegram version with Yappari interface, but for now the Telegram plugin works fine for me.

Yes, it works. But I can't use the full functionality of the service, as do users of other operating systems. I feel slighted. And personally I want to see the normal interface to Qt, not native horror.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Naw .... I`m one of those lucky souls ... who installs it ... but I have issues with it... ie - it is non-existent in pidgin as a physical button option.

un-installation,
pulling out the virtual toothbrush and scrubbing,
then re-installation
nets me the same results.

the issue that plagues some ... plagues me...
or I`d be using pidgin`s telegram plugin.

And I'd love to see it integrated into our IM system, thanks to telepathy-morse.
Unfortunately have no time to do it myself. It's there, ready, just needs someone to take advantage of it.

realllllllly..... ( with the drollest of inflections)
you don't like Turkey?
Turkey is great!

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

you actually can't know which meat-pieces came out of my very mouth when it went wide open upon reading your message (okay, I've to admit now, I'm trully a vegetarian; so this didn't really happen .. but I don't mind others eating meat).

however, well, look, if you didn't get me by now I'll put it in a more direct way: to me, you came across a 'tinsy' bit, erm, 'insulting'; but what do I know… :-?

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

I was simply punning on the grammatical on the statement....i am turkey... nothing more...there was no inference or malicious intent....no need to "thought police" me...thank you....

I was just unsure how you meant it .. but thank you for taking time to explain.

Naw ....it's all good...I am not offended...
I didn't mean my punning derogatorily ..
I would have made a similar gramatical sandwich pun if someone said "I am Swiss" or "I am Bologna" or...
wellllll...
no ...
not bologna...
I don't care for bologna...
but yup...
it was non prejudicial punning...
damn ..
now I'm hungry ...
I need to make a sandwich...

So...i figure its all good...

what I also wanted to add: I've a hunch we lost a quite confused Turkey somewhere in the field (which I feel sorry for).
and to all that chewed some popcorn in between: I understand it was tensioning but obviously, you didn't get to watch an infight. ;)

Here's a possible way to get WA on the n900. Get another cheap android phone and connect to WA. On the browser of the N900, go to WA page for using WA on another pc. Scan the bar code there with your WA enabled phone. As long as the WA enabled phone is connected to the internet, one should be able to use WA on the webpage through the browser on the N900. Worth a shot in resuscitating the n900.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

thank you very much for this entirely correct post. however, this is one way "we" already came up with/know about ;) (if you look a few pages back).
but nevertheless, thank you for repeating in order to inform any potential reader that may only look at this very thread's last page.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

Even though it was already mentioned:

WA works quite well (*) in NITDroid.

The N900 is my only phone and I just reboot into NITDroid from time to time to check WA. Maybe not an option for power-WA-user.

(*) Slow and sometimes a few crashes but sending txt and pictures is no problem.

HTuRtle 2016-09-01 09:25

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

… if the 'phone-app' would just work in NITDroid.
the only 'other downside' to this method is, that WhatsApp plans to remove support for the Android version NITDroid is based on. I read it somewhere, that this is planned .. I even believe, I've got it off from within this thread, somewhere (the link to the official WhatsApp-statement, I mean).

ah, here you go (you're welcome, dear 'Google')

Expanding on this method, I would like to point out that most of the browsers on N900 are slow in regards to today's standards. Plus, the WA Web interface is too big for even 5-inch phones.

The solution: A web app. Now I don't have even the basic knowledge and expertise about coding. If I am correct, it's only a matter of overriding and manipulating the page elements so that it fits our device's screen, maybe add a few tweaks for better performance and package it as a fremantle app.

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

this sounds like a sound idea. writing a web-app should be possible. but as you still need another dedicated phone up and running, I don't see it as "the next big thing for meamo". the one that'd code it prolly knows very well this work and effort is for a merely exclusive circle of less than 10 people in the world (just a 'rough and wild' assumption .. no 'raw metrics' evaluated for this xD )

I suggested this before but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. We'd just need to implement the part the app that generates the unique ID (QR code) that is needed in order to use the web interface and then that ID could be passed to a web app or some web interface that has been optimised for MicroB. I'd look into myself but I don't have the time. It's already been done on Android and iOS. We just need port it to the N900.

Maybe I am being greedy here, but right now WA working on N900 exclusively is a big NO. WA Web is a viable option but it is slow on N900 browsers. So why not work on improving that till we find another way.

As for the secondary device problem, you can use an android emulator if you don't have a supported physical device.

oh, yes, I've to admit, the VM-box'd android is a great substitute in this case .. cool idea 8-) *wondering why I didn't come up with that in the first place*

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

there is no such thing as "obtaining" whatsapp.
there is either work by your peers here being done on a port or application ...to bring "x" to the device line..

....or not...

If you were to use a browser on the n900 which would allow you to utilize "whatsapp web" ...then whatsapp is possible.

Such a native n900 browser may or may not work ... the n900 browsers are old.
and have not been updated..(we do not have folks here who can devote the time and expertise to maintain a browser which would be current enough for modern social media...which is perpetually changing it's face...)

Possibly a browser in a version of a distro which one of the guys has been working on....may work.
Kali...
Easy Deb perhaps...
Still...it must be current browser ...with the ability of the distro to get needed updates without breaking ....
and especially needed browser updates.

Kali is a current ...almost bug free... option...
I personally think Antix would be more stable and perform better..,
but...
Making distros for arm isn't my strong suit ...

But for you and everyone else who want perpetually changing social media apps to function on the n900...
the best bet is a distro.
Easy Kali
Easy Deb.
Easy "x"

You could scream loud enough ...that someone hears and comes up with a solution .

Yowsup has supported end-to-end encryption for a while now and WhatsApp have extended support for S40 until the end of 2018. It seems that plenty of people (but not all) have been using Yowsup without getting banned.

Is it worth reviving Yappari?

I really think you guys should try moving onto free (as in freedom) alternatives instead of pursuing for being compatible with a hostile provider.

I've been using XMPP (client: Conversations) for about a year and I'm more than happy with it and my contact list is steadily growing.

I really would like to but it doesn't work that way.
All important communication, internal business and study projects, go via whatsapp. Fortunate to have a iPhone 5s for that but I would happily switch back to my n900 for *all* communication.

Hardware keyboard is unbeatable for typing, so mails still come from n900 :)

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

mr_pingu, that's what happens if you give in once. :) From my experience "I can't" is the best argument for an average Joe to agree on using some indie IM :)

Of course, when it comes to business it may be sometimes worth to bind the business number to WhatsApp. But the business number!

On my university Facebook Messenger is the most popular means of communication. The solution is... "I don't have a Messenger app, I'll read your message after a couple of days, let's better stick to something else....". But it's just thanks to the fact that my contact network is not built upon Facebook, WhatsApp...

I'm too late for that....

On my University it's whatsapp, facebook is on it's retour, atleast in my environment. Not that I mind, said goodbye to FB few years ago :)

Whatsapp is my only communicationprovider that has got me tangled Unfortunately, for my communication with friends too, not only study and business... But it started there :/

What service XMPP service do you use?

Re: [Announce] Yappari - New maintainership and new features!

There's this exteremely useful table: https://gultsch.de/compliance_ranked.html
I had good experience with elaon.de, dismail.de and wiuwiu.de. Currently using the third.

I don't really know what the last column is about. :P OMEMO works just fine on wiuwiu.de <-> dismail.de or wiuwiu.de <-> neko.im (a couple of my friends use it)

If you want a custom domain name you can host your own using prosody, config is really easy (let me know if you want any help).

You're using stock Conversations? I saw the table referenced in the previous post. Which of those features does N900 Conversations support?

And/or other xmpp clients for N900 .. :)
