meh, i just recall that the gp2x with a dock could be used as a kind of multi-format games console on the tv. and iirc, the pandora has a usb host port so...

One (unrequested) advice to those thinking to buy a Beagle Board: check if you can get ES3 - and even that one has its share of issues.

The two biggest issues are the host-mode USB port not being installed (due to some silicon issues with the USB chip), and some minor bugs in the silicon on the OMAP3530 that can impact NEON performance. Both issues can be worked around fairly easily, though, since the OTG port is available (as long as you have a 5v adaptor for power) and the NEON bugs have been worked around in the community code. Rev.C is probably due around November, it's not clear whether it will have updated OMAP3 silicon, though.

Not yet, but there will be by the end of the year.

The Big Buck Bunny demo everybody always sees is decoded with the help of a lot of NEON optimizations by omapfb. It does not have sound and runs entirely on the Cortex. IVA decoding isn't present yet, but will be coming in the future, and it will also be able to handle 720p. #beagle on Freenode can probably offer some clearer details.

It may be of interest to know that both these issues are fixed in the Pandora, with one caveat: the host USB port only works in version 2.0 mode, so any 1.1-specific peripherals need to be attached through a 2.0 hub.

As Pandoras start shipping in november, it would be expected that the new rev. Beagles will have that silicon upgrade as well.

Ah, ok so it is possible without using the IVA (aka DSP). I was just wondering whether it had the possibility to decode hi-def video, but someone still had to write the code for it. Looks like it's actually got enough guts in the Cortex (which can run existing code) to do it, which is nice.

Got the DVI adaptor, so now I can actually see some on screen. Got as far as the user setup wizard for Ångstrom, but can't enter anything. USB drivers seem to be a bit wonky in my install, as I can't get it into host mode. May try another distro tomorrow. . . .

Woo, downgraded the kernel, and it booted fine with USB and everything. Now I've got to decide whether I want to trudge on with the Ångstrom demo image (seems a little under-featured) or see if I can get Debian up and running. Enlightenment sure is pretty. . . .

Just for kicks (and out of a bit of frustration) I decided to set the rootfs to the Deblet partition that happened to be on the card and hey-ho would you look at that!

Another run through with a copy of my Diablo installed a tared over to another partition didn't go as well. Gotta see if I can find the guy who managed it no flickr and get the methods out of him.

Bummer,
I was looking forward to buying a Rev C2 board as soon as it was released, Digi-Key has updated their "click to buy" link details with the newer KIT DEV BEAGLE BOARD REV C ; but no such luck. Quote from sales..

I wouldn't trust that number. They were getting 200 units a week when I ordered my Rev. B when they first came out and I got mine within 5 days. If you want a good estimate, talk to jkridner on #beagle.
