Re: A special thank-you for the developers of Tear

Can you run tear from the command line and post the errors that occur (if any)?

Sure. Sorry, I was away from my tablet earlier.
-------
~ $ tear
tear: error while loading shared libraries: libpcre.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
----
Is this due to a poorly installed webkit?

I'll let the command line speak for me:

Code:

Nokia-N810-43-7:~# /etc/init.d/tablet-browser-daemon stop
But the end of this article makes me think that Nokia is moving over to a webkit-based browser. Maybe that's one of the big Fremantle surprises.

That's not all that suggests WebKit in Maemo's future ;)

Did you install libpcre3?

As root in terminal: apt-get install libpcre3

I never learned to use it. On the desktop synaptic is much more powerful.

I would guess that maybe the old two-engine browser will return, this time one Opera less, one WebKit more :)

I thought I had, but apparently I had a flaky connection. I tried again and now Tear works great. Thanks for the help.

If that's the case, the next few months should be enough to show Nokia that they might as well just open-source the browser and bookmarks. Their current interface is very undesirable to me and if I can't customize it to all my likings, I won't be using it. I already don't. :)
