There is a Qt Frameworks for S60 right now, but I think it isn't in finished form yet. Not sure.

Nope, its not finished yet; but its in the cards for current work within the Symbian Foundation. The key question is whether what Nokia is doing with Maemo and what SF is doing with Symbian will have enough similarities to keep both. Because it would be a waste of resources to use Qt on both sides, and need double the time to get them to talk to each other.

Qt will be supported partially in Maemo 5, totally in Hamarratan and partially Symbian^3. Basically making it quite easy for Nokia to build once and run all their devices easily. Add this API and they ensure the next major steps in whatever next major platform there is (hint: the internet is an OS).

The question for Mer is simply whether it will support the door to integrated services built upon HTML/CSS/JS (ahem, same stuff WRT, widgets, Palm's webOS, and Google GWT frameworks use). If not, then Mer is just something to tide folks over, serving to scratch the itch of developers who are happier with the N800/N810, than more current offerings.

Its not that difficult folks... the question is whether some of you here will run with it, or keep to the door that the IT got you into seeing.

Well we may find out soon enough...

Thank you for requesting to participate in the Ovi for developers Beta programme.
We will review your request, and get back to you shortly to let you know if you have been accepted to join the programme.

With kind regards,

... or maybe not.

In any event I would sure like to get started with WRT at least. However, since I only have the N800 & 810 devices I can not down load widgets to decompile and muck around in. :) I get "Unfortunately your device is not supported at this time... yadda, yadda, yadda."

Are the free ones transferable?..
That is, could some one with an S60 device pass some on once they download them to their device?

@ any and all,
Please PM if this can be done and you have the time and inclination...
Thanks. :)

To develop Web Runtime Widgets (WRTs), the information is at Forum Nokia. Has been for a long time, and if memory serves right, the last time I asked here about developers doing such things to extend the platform towards its *internet* nature, it was met with silent *somethings.* Maybe now folks will get it.

Some get it... but not many. Check out how many replies >> this thread << generated

I have a memory card full of locally stored pages that reach out to the internet for data with directories full of support images, flash, and java script that I would love to zip up in a single file.

However, I can't get a straight answer with regard to existing wgz files developed for the S60. Will they run on the N900?
If they run, how? and will the runtime be available for the older devices?

There are also quite a few OVI widgets that I know can be made to run on on the N8**'s but since the N8**'s are not listed as compatible devices, we can not download them to make the minor changes that are needed for them to run.

From my understanding, those should run just fine. But I don't know the Ovi API to answer that correctly.

No. Quim is on the record (somewhere, I forget where) saying that WRT isn't on Maemo yet. The Ovi SDK is, interestingly based on W3C widgets (I don't know how, exactly WRT relate to them); and it's unclear if the release of the Ovi SDK (whenever it is) will coincide with the release of WRT for Maemo.

Yup... I actualy found the quote when I Googled "W3C widgets". He posted on yet another maemo.org forum.

Hi,

They are currently not supported but they will be coming at some point.
Official announcements to come by

Andrew Flegg offers the following at the end of that^ thread:

And Ovi SDK apps are based on W3C Widgets, from what I've just seen in
the developer experience area at Nokia World.

There's a talk at 14:45 CET about using it for cross-platform
development, and Maemo *was* mentioned in the introduction (although
I've not seen any evidence of this being anything but aspirational at
the moment).

Cheers,

Andrew

Fear not (less?), that's not a new Talk competitor, it's a web-based view of the maemo-developers mailing list.

No, I'm not fear less.. :D

Yup, I figured that out too... Why call it a forum then? It will eventually add to confusion and/or frustration of new users. Oh well... for another thread perhaps.

So basically wait and see...

In the mean time can someone with an s60 device answer me this?

Can a current widget on OVI like >> these << be transfered to another device from the s60 device?

YoDude,
Your link went to a dead spot. But what do you mean? Can I take a widget install file from my S60 device and send it to another S60 device via BT or USB? Or a Maemo device?
