Anyway, I think, having a touchscreen, especially resistive (for stylus) combined with a good querty keboard WITH arrow keys, ... is the best combination an advanced user can get!

One month ago, i had the HTC Hero, wanted to play GBA, but, ... no keys to map. Onscreen keyboard was good, but by far not as good as a real keyboard... so i sold it...

By the way: Look at the price of the iPhone in germany, ... 1049€ ... and some guys were complaining about the price of 599€ for the N900...

Yep, people in Europe are not in USA. In USA there is an economic crisis, remember? That's left for US to export nowadays :D
The price in USA is $588, in Europe is 600 €. This is fair, because when the "wind of change" blows from US to Europe, transporting the phone over the ocean in opposite sense makes it loose some $$.

The problem is in USA where there is no operator for N900, and actually only T-Mobile can carry it, but it didn't seem to want it.

With no operator in USA, no way of it having mass appeal. $600 is still not a cheap price. Now, iPhone 3G is only $99 on AT&T, that's a difference...

But for the unlocked segment N900 rocks! :)

So, how is it in the UK like getting one on contract for 30 and then canceling the contract by paying some damages? Is that viable? In the US, it is.

If that is possible and the total (everything including the taxes) comes out to be cheaper than the amazon offered price, I would consider trying that route :) I have already pre-ordered mine at amazon.com but still $600 is a huge money. Difficult to get over this fact!

Also, did anyone try that microsoft promoted bing cashback thing? Will that work for pre-orders too?

You can have a subscription from UK if you have an address in UK.
Usually the contract stipulates you need to pay the remaining time left on contract (like 7 month left * 30$) or the price of the unlocked phone, which-one is the lower value.

Microsoft Bing gives you a percentage cashback if you search through Bing.com and buy something from one of their partner retailers (e.g. Newegg).

No but I bet when I get mine delivered the dishes will be left for a few days ;-)

So if I register at Bing.com, besides Newegg, is Amazon.com also on MS partner retailers?

EDIT: Do I need a coupon from Microsoft / Bing for this registration to get the discount, or anybody who registers gets the coupon after the registration?

Nokia has shown less focus and too much let's try and see... which is not good. For instance a Maemo phone could be done in 6 months after N810 was out, with kind of the same interface, but having telephony. They instead bought Symbian and forgot about Maemo until Symbian did NOT prove. Maybe too late in the competition with iPhone, Nokia looked again at Maemo. But even now the device is like a bastard for Nokia, N900 looks like an orphan, no carriers for it, no fight to get operators, no fight to show it to the world, no internet ads, no marketing, no TV commercials... Again, Nokia does not focus to promote this device like Apple did with iPhone, to create stories about it, to create a good light about it, to keep the device on the news... And yes, Apple is very, very focused, naming all its devices the same, creating a major brand "iPhone"...

Why Nokia does not focus?

There's a few things that come to mind. Nokia is the single largest company in the market, it luckily does well in developing world markets too. Being the biggest ship I imagine it's harder to change course, so to speak - iPhone was a shock to the entire industry, especially Nokia - it is clear from Maemo 5 that their number one priority is services integration (by that I put an emphasis on web) as well as user experience (primarily UI design).

You are correct in being unable to identify Nokia's masterplan, I don't think they have one, the 'try and see' approach that you say seems accurate then. However they've been developing both Symbian and Maemo in parallel whilst all the while strengthening their position through strategic acquisitions (they own Navtek right?) as well as Qt, both of which are some of the most fundamental under-pinnings, or will be in the short term.

I also agree with you when you say that they could've added telephony in the N810 but instead I think they could've upped the integration in this device, although I won't know until I use it, it seems as if telephony is second fiddle. However that could be just in relative order to the good web experience you'll have on the device.

All I can say is that the N900 is a big boon for Nokia. Their marketing needs to be very in your face and focussing on these very visual features, just like the iPhone is doing. The possibility of operator partnerships also gives the device an almost infinite degree more visibility than just being a specialist device available from Nokia's own shop.

I don't think Amazon is. If you try to use shopping on Bing.com, nothing comes up for n900 (Newegg does not currently stock the n900). And no you don't need a coupon, you just need an account through Microsoft, whereever you are shopping and.. Paypal if you want the money immediately. Or if you'd like a check you have to hit X amount of dollars before they'll send you a check. Though I think it's like 10 dollars or so.

Yes, but if you take it with an expensive data plan from T-Mobile, you'll get it for 1 €, and that's what most people do.
Really paying 1000 € for a phone is beyond any sanity IMHO.
