Re: So,... I bought the HD2
No, no, no,... Listen, I'm an avid Unix lover, I live and breathe the stuff, it's my bread and butter. I'll ignore the fanboy and childish comments I've seen in this thread because I know there's better people in here then those who belched up a reply suggesting I stick the HD2 somewher unpleasant.
Speed. Rendering speed of webpages was my number one requirement, the faster the better. There's a review out there that pitches the N900 against the HD2 in terms of rendering webpages. The HD2 wins in the overall. Forgive me not wanting to look that review up, I lack the time, however, seeing as y'all very into the n900 I bet you've seen it and chose to ignore it :p Formfactor. I'm sorry, but this is 2009, I want my device flat and sleek. The n900 is not IMHO. It's a pack of sigarettes-factor, the HD2 is.. just flat. Screen. 4+inches is better than 3+inches. I don't want to hear anything else. It is really huuuuuuge. I'm sorry this is sounding redundant. Now,... Did I want linux on my device. Oh god, yes. I'll even settle for android. I love linux, it's open, it's full of promise, it does all my bidding, I adore it! However.. I'll have to carry this tablet around all day, I need it to be FAST in rendering pages and I want it to have a large and easy viewing screen. For those considerations, between the hd2 and the n900 the hd2 wins. That's for me personally. Will I keep an eye on maemo? Well offcourse, if that 920 is ever coming out I'll be back here, hopeing it'll be fast and comes with a large screen. In all honesty, if the n900 had've shipped end of september (as I was promised by Nokia) I would've gotten it and I prob. would've defended it to death. Things turned out differently. THe HD2 came out and it beat the n900 in areas I was interested in,.. Also, i'm not paid by any company. But if any company wants to, heck, send yar checks :p As an end note, I did not want to flash my cool device in your faces and go nah-nah-nah, I just wanted to tell you guys why I went for the hd2. rgds |

Re: So,... I bought the HD2
I don't want to make this a huge discussion, but seriously dude, you bought the HD2, you're happy, why come to maemo.org and tell us about it? What is the reason for this?
I'm quite sure that everybody in this community have been reading a lot, if not endlessly (me:)) about the N900 and the differences, and the good things and the bad things, and all the videos, etc., and therefore, we all know what the pros and cons about the latest smart phones. So if there's any place that you should post in, then it's the HD2 forums! They'll at least welcome you in, hip hurray and we're all happy :) But to me it sounds like you regret it, and if so I totally understand ;)... You might have some "your money back the first 14 or 30 days" :) But anywat, good luck with the phone! |

Regardless of that you go on to say that if the N900 had shipped at the end of Sept then you would have purchased and defended it. That leaves me wondering. If browser speed is the main reason for you wanting a device then why would you have "settled" for the N900 just because it shipped in Sept. Again it speaks to someone who wanted it NOW NOW NOW. Rather than RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT. On a personal note I find it hard to believe ANYONE who works and uses UNIX every day would EVER take a windows device when with a little patience (less than 2 weeks most likely) they could have a fully functional Linux device. |
Re: So,... I bought the HD2
Ladies and Gentleman, this is the Competitors forum. Perhaps the torrent of gushing praise was a little over the top, but this is an appropriate place for a consumer to state why they chose to buy one of the N900's competitors. Nokia cannot meet people's desires in future devices if they do not know what these desires are.

Re: So,... I bought the HD2
To be honest, "size does matter" when you're discussing screen size. If I had a choice between a 3.5" and a 4.3" screen device, it would be very hard to go with 3.5".
The other reason why I would have a hard time with the N900 is that it doesn't support North American 3G. In fact, that is the real deal breaker for me. |
