yes wishes are very different, because i have MMS phones now for years and i think i only send 1 in all those years, so i dont MMS important 1 bit.

Portrait mode on a certain amount of apps would be better for me for sure. But i think i will vote for other things even way more like IMap-IDLE support... (which is disabled..) because my current phone i really have push email which i will loose when i have my N900

Looks like Portrait mode was the cause of the delay maybe.

Latest released firmware has a bug in the OHM Daemon.

Problem with screen rotation in released firmware.

The reason for this is explained in the bug:

So, it's not your problem at all. I'll try and make sure this is fixed soon.

Frankly this is so stupid I'm dumbfounded. It went in right before the release, we were not told about it, and we had no chance to test it or point out the obvious problem with it.

On rotation, all processes apart from those whitelisted are paused by ohmd - so it's hardly surprising that if you're not in the whitelist your rotation is going to be broken.

wrt the rotation speed - this has improved significantly lately and will be inthe next full release. While the initial part of rotation is a bit more jerky, it does mean the device spends a lot less time with a black screen - which is what people were complaining about.

The browser takes around 2 -3 seconds to rotate the web page to portrait or back to landscape. Some pages work really well as portrait, but most need to be landscape. I am using version 2.2009.46-9. I have tried many other apps, but only phone and the web browser seem to rotate. The phone app will go landscape if you pop out the keyboard, and will go portrait if you close the keyboard. There is a nice feature in the phone app, that will allow to launch the phone by turning it to portrait. This works quite well. One thing I am not happy about is the image viewer. It will not auto rotate the images. Unless I am mistaken, I thought that the N810 would do that from the dimensions of the image to try to maximize it on the screen.

Will portrait mode work for reading and writing text messages?

i think this is the most important use for portrait mode, the rest of the uses can be filtered in slowly, but this would be the most useful initially. is there any indication if this is achievable yet?

The image viewer app (Photos - ?) on my N900 (1.2009.42) rotates images when the N900 is turned.

With the N900 in landscape orientation, landscape images are initially shrunk so their height fills the screen. If I then turn the N900 to portrait orientation, the image is shrunk to fit the reduced width of the portrait-format screen.

With the N900 again landscape, portrait images are shrunk so their height fills the screen. On rotating the N900 to portrait, the image is rotated, but keeps the same size, so black bars are shown around all sides of the portrait image on the portrait screen.

It seems to be impossible to get a portrait image to fill either height or width of the portrait screen.

Simon.
