yo! Okay so it's great to see a lot of overclocking going around. (Great work guys!) Needless to say I want to overclock too. I am not so much into multi-tasking or playing games via emulators. I just want to ensure that my YT videos (HD) runs smoother than what it does currently. What are the suggestions for me? What frequency should I overclock to?

Sorry for the n00b questions:
- Which one involves least risk?
- Does a reboot of the phone reset the frequency?

I did a lot of reading on the forum but the amount of posts just confused me even more. I guess it's also important to mention that I am new to n900 and maemo5.

any help much appreciated.

Read:

I have read it... And it completely dissuaded me from overclocking.
Under-volting doesn't reduce kernel damage because of SmartReflex.
Running the chip all the time at 600MHz vs. 500MHz already decreases lifespan twice, hence 600MHz is considered overdrive.

I installed WiFi switcher. Unloading of unneeded modules, turning off unneeded programs should be the way to go.

Eh, that's what they say. I don't believe it - some people have been OCing since the beginning(like 9months-1yr) without issue. I've been running mine at 900-950mhz OC(with custom voltages; undervolted compared to stock) since I got it a good three months ago. By now - if things were as exponential as calculated - I should be seeing mine dead, or at least have to downclock it or boost the voltage or something. But I'm not, and probably won't have any trouble for months if not years.

Once I see someone who had their device OC'd significantly have it actually die... I'll worry. But I haven't, so I won't.

More people have dead USB connector than dead CPU :)

That statement might have made a little bit of sense, but for the unfortunate fact that the feature you refer to as smartreflex is disabled by default, since it causes instability (read: immediate crash) for a large percentage of devices.
