To be honest, I don't know. I guess some sort of control will remain (like the DRM mode for Maemo 6), though I can't find anything on the Symbian Foundation page.

However, the signed requirement was never a big deterrent for some power users...

Guess I'll add Symbian into my list of possible future platforms (along with Android and Meego). Especially if Nokia is successful with the cross-platform QT apps.

Edit: And I agree with Texrat. :)

its just same as nexus one,but HTC added sense UI to make it better..the good thing about android is you can change to custom roms and very nice user experience

Re: HTC Desire has arrived....

OK day 2 - just found the = sign after spending 30 minutes last night trying to find it. a button with 1/2 and 2/2 obviously didnt click so it must've been time for bed! Found it now lol. And can paste text!!!! Just however over the url address line.

Browser - prefer to use the hard keyboard on the N900 even though the buttons are too small for my hands. The N900 has the browser by a margin......however

So far regardless of ram etc, I've had not one hang, nothing has frozen, gone slow or tripped itself up. As a pre-order customer of both the N900 and Desire, the desire wins the best early release competition. Its quick and once you get used to the way it works (you know, the kinda quirks that make each phone different), its really nice to use.

Back to the browser - its very useable and have ordered a few bits using it today. I think I am seriously falling for this phone/device!

The call app is slick. Nice.

Battery life update at 3pm ish ! By 3pm my n900 was half capacity.....

Is it worth the £400? Oh god yeah. Nokia N900 cost another £100. A hard keyboard isn't worth that to me, but maybe to some of you.

Like the N900 early doors, theres a few bits available now but most stock of cases and extras seem to be coming in over the next 2 weeks according to shop stocks. I'm using a cutdown N900 screen protector will my Desire ones arrive.

thanks for the quick user review bonerp !

equivalent, sony ericsson xperia x10 is also worth a look.
has similar spec, think slightly better hardware, and their android customization is as slick as htc's sense UI.

Thanks for the information! Thinking about buying myself one. How are the grey color tones? Heard about problems on screen color quality.

Re: HTC Desire has arrived....

Yeah I'm suprised by the odd very technical report of screen issues! I think thats just it. To the eye everyone who has seen it prefers the screen to n900. I think its very clear, very colourful and crisp.

Battery life was a dog yesterday, then realised (like the n900) that things need detuning - screen down/wifi off/auto updates off etc. Mine was checking email realtime and battery was sucked by 4pm - 10 -12 hrs.

Today after tuning I expect double this if not more - based on other users findings.

I spent about 2 hours adding apps - I love the barcode scanner which calls up a url and downloads the app. Simples. Love the starwars type menu structure I downloaded - looks like the end of starwars where the text goes away into the distance :)

There are some really useful tools - have to search them out like the iTunes store though.

This isnt a new OS - its pretty established now and probably where Nokia need to be aiming for in 6 months.

I love my n900 but I think this may become past tense very soon as the Desire is a fine device.

If you want pure mobile computing and infinate advanced access - the n900 is probably your friend. If you want mobile multimedia that can be customised, a decent phone and tons of apps that all work cleanly and quickly, the Desire is your friend. Don't get me wrong - this is NOT an iPhone. Its so much more and maybe a midpoint of iphone to n900. Its got everything the n900 should have and lots more than the iPhone is.

Will update todays battery life later :D

Re: HTC Desire has arrived....

Are you saying the N900 has better web browsing capabilities than the Desire? Does it play online video such as youtube videos faster than the N900? Also, is it capable of playing Xvid videos like the N900?
