I'm sure a significant amount can be swayed by a very favorable announcement (ie: "The new Nokia device will triple boot S^3, MeeGo and Android!") and all the past mistakes will be forgiven. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Yep, I will get the first Harmattan device. I decided to skip N900/M5 and stick with my trusty E71 until Harmattan comes out. I originally hoped it would be THE release to set a solid base for the future but the MeeGo affair obviously disrupted that a bit. I hope Nokia manages the transition smoothly, but I'm not holding my breath TBH. I'm itching to replace my current phone though and can't wait to test Harmattan out. I think both the HW and the SW will be a nice improvement over the N900.

Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
A non-stable, non-feature full version of MeeGo is already out, so the question is a bit inaccurate.
I'm only on a one year contract, and my phones usually only survive a couple of years. So before a stable, feature full version of MeeGo is out, I'll had to get a new phone. Or two. I think, by the time Nokia has moved their MeeGo products from the "let's rearplug the naive, rich early adaptors some more" phase, Android 7.2 is out. By that time, iPple may even have turned away from evil. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
It's difficult - do you want to be another earlier adopter or have to get locked in to being apple's ***** with the ever so passe iphone (and it is).
I'm in 2 minds about android as middle ground - will be interesting to see how this platform develops. I guess it really comes down to what you use your phone for - if normal smartphone functionality, battery life, reliability and support are priorities are important then the iphone is probably top. if you're more of a power user then I'd say something like the new N900 with meego would certainly be the choice. horses...for...courses. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I'll keep the N900 for 2-3 years. If I break it before then I'd just get another. Otherwise only absolute killer hardware running MeeGo or a very similar 'full' linux OS would get it out of my hands any sooner.
For various reasons I have zero interest in anything running WinPhone 7, Android, WebOS, Symbian etc. Too spoiled by Maemo/MeeGo now. I really think it has a great future and I'm pretty much committed to staying with it. So the OS will be the #1 consideration for me in picking my next phone. But I don't much care who makes the hardware as long as it has the basic features I want. |

Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I just spent a ton of cash on the N900.. I'll be keeping it for quite some time.
However, I'll likely be one of the ones running the Dev MeeGo on their N900 once the very basics are there (a GUI, and working Phone). |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
still see no reason for getting a new device

Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I'm impatient and would love a MeeGo phone and tablet now, just like the iPhone and iPad but i no that the two MeeGo devices will work together better than what the iPhone and iPad does now.
