Re: Ari Jaaksi begging to be kicked
Why can't they have weekly or even monthly "builds" available for rest of us to test. (for those who are willing to reflash often)
Wish they had a hotfix system in place so you can just install the hotfix which fixes a certain bug. (like Microsoft...) Just release Beta/RC builds and put them up in a unstable repository and for those who are installing, just show a BIG warning sign saying this is UNSTABLE prior to the install. Super easy. That's what they are doing internally, why not do it for the techy guys out here who are willing to also try and test their so called "beta/rc" builds. We all know PR1.2 will also have lots of bugs and spawn many more enhancement requests. So just release it and let us help report any bugs as we are going to do it even when their "fully tested" gets released anyways. |

I just can't wait for the 3000 "WTF???? This is IT???" posts from the exact same people screaming for it now. |
Re: Ari Jaaksi begging to be kicked
Hmm, maybe I'm not understanding it correctly or just too ignorant because I was not even aware about Maemo's presence before N900. But, I think accepting something bad (yes, it is bad. It is a old habit comes from closed softwares, there's no place for this kind of behaviour on open software, imho) just because Nokia wants is not my way to do things.
If there's a really meaningful reason for Nokia's decisions about this topic (I think It should not be Nokia's decision, anyway..) I would not interrupt. I don't think it's a healthy thing to accept anything unreasonable, just because some guy/company thinks it is better. Maybe I'll walk away. to Mer, not Android I'm sure, or any other alternative if it's possible. Time will show. Thanks to you for your honest opinions on this topic :) |

Re: Ari Jaaksi begging to be kicked
The only valid complaint I can see is that IF (thats an if there) PR1.2 for HK is the real PR 1.2 - Nokia can't release a flashable image of it on the website.
If it's not out of testing yet, that's fine - the people that need the OTA updates can wait until it's to that point; people who don't mind reflashing their device and losing their settings can toy with PR1.2 BUT - Screaming, yelling, pissing, moaning on this Maemo forum isn't going to change a damn thing. Call and complain to Nokia Customer Service if you want.. they actually get paid to babysit people all day. |

That's why I'm not one of the ones running around screaming my PR1.2 isn't here. In fact the N900 has been perfectly fine for me.. I'm a little anxious for the new QT to use the SDK toolkit but other than that.. meh. My phone isn't my life.. it seems that's a rarity around here though. |

Re: Ari Jaaksi begging to be kicked
This is the only problem i have with Maemo.. It do things a little bit different than the normal Linux way. Thus they are not using the full potential of using linux as base. They need to learn how to involve the community better.. and i think they will. They are the company that have come furthest with that as for now.
I can really understand why they don't let "everyone" test the RC before it is released. Just look how the extras-devel are being used by ppl that should not use it. I do hope they change their mind on how they make their release in future upgrades. (And Anarea please stop beeing so negative about things..) ;) |
