After that, login in maemo.org (different than talk.maemo.org) and start clicking on the links on my list and voting. You can easily start with apps that can be voted down, they take about 5 secs each one for seeing what it's wrong with them. If you have troubles in following/understanding testing rules, just ask! :)

DECISION NEEDED

Hi everyone,

I'm very happy of our results: we have helped the promotion of many valuable app and rejected the not-ready ones.

Today I want to ask your opinion about all the themes infesting the queue: for those who don't know anything about this great problem, here's a summary.

Some time ago Ricky Tournee (http://maemo.org/profile/view/d-iivil) started uploading many themes to Extras-Testing. Some of them have passed the queue and actually they are in Extras, but tons of them are still in Extras-Testing. That's because they take a lot of rootfs each one (about 500 KB): that's often under the current limit for being rejected, but you understand that if you start installing lot of themes they are going to be dangerous for our phone's health.

I want you to note that I love and use many of those themes, and I've absolutely nothing against them or Ricky, who is a talented themes maker without any doubt. I just want to prevent our rootfs (and the end-users's) from bricking our devices.

Many users have started voting thumbs down in the Extras-Testing QA queue, but themes are stucked there because we have to decide as a community.

So here's the poll: in your opinion how we should vote for all those themes in the queue?

EDIT: CepiPerez has solved the problem: actually all the themes are properly optified since PR 1.2 (themes folder has been moved to opt), so we can vote thumbs up to those themes without any optification doubt. Thanks for reading.

I've just added all the themes to the initial list, please vote them in order to clean the queue. Hope that our work will provide many quality themes and packages to Extras repository.

I'm slightly concerned that there is too much emphasis being placed on getting the queue cleared and not enough on ensuring that the testing process is rigourous.

Every person voting an app up should have installed it, given it a good testing (this may take a couple of days in some cases) and, if possible, checked the optification/licence status and so on. reading the testing page on the wiki is a must.

I don't mean to critisise here, torpedo48 is doing a (mostly) thankless job very well. I just want to make sure we don't get carried away with numbers and let standards slip.

Is there a way to find out why a package doesn't get a Promote button?

I've checked the QA list and, as far as I can see, my package, footify-0.0.7-1, is ok to promote. I've been told that this might be caused by a bug in the Garage code, but I'd like a second opinion from you guys that do a lot of testing.

I've tried to make clear the fact that you have to personally test the app, and of course this include installing it and using it for a few days, but maybe I've focused on that not enough. Tomorrow I'll insert a note.

I've started this thread because I was worried about the queue getting longer every day: many apps were perfectly ready and stucked in the queue because there were not enough testers, so I decided to make a list for newcomers with suggestions; of course this doesn't mean that I want a short Extras-Testing queue and Extras full of junk ;)

HI everyone,

one community member has created a very good Google Spreadsheet automatically updated from the Extras-Testing QA queue pages, you can use it for quickly look at the general situation and for choosing what to test. This is the link. When using it, remember that it could be a little outdated if compared to testing pages, and that it could contain errors, so keep it in mind.
