  • Check out this other video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-ynXRDmIho
  • It looks like a m528
  • It is runniing (what looking like) a full version of Ubuntu!!
  • Looks like these devices are the same hardware, but provided by different companies!

Do they have GPS built in?

It looks pretty nice and it can run Ubuntu and has a USB port.

From at least one of those videos is a link to http://www.umpcportal.com/products/ which gives a nice table showing a lot of these with their specs. :D

Been drooling over this for a bit: http://www.dynamism.com/notebooks/viliv-n5.shtml

14 ounces ... too big for me as a replacement for the NIT. I don't need a hard drive and its weight; SD cards seem perfect for this application. Apart from that, though, it looks great.

on the subject of GMA500.. don't let it totally dissuade you away from, say, the Fujitsu U820 (aka U2010). It's a great machine, and you can get linux working on it pretty well with accelerate video, it's not too hard but it isn't trivial.

there's now a pre-prepared ubuntu with the drivers installed up-front, so that's a real step forward

I am very happy with my U2010, I don't know what I'd replace it with if it broke, there's nothing quite like it around, it really does do the job of a handheld linux laptop.

The Sharp Netwalker (successor to the Zaurus line) [http://pricejapan.com/front/e_good_i...76&category=5] seems to be about the closest to an n810 successor that I've seen. 5 inch display, keyboard, wifi/bluetooth, Ubuntu OS, ARM-based Freescale CPU, MicroSDHC (the N810 has dual full size SD, but the micro cards have come up in capacity), 4GB internal flash, 512MB RAM. Street price in US seems to float around $500.00

Htc Shift? You can buy it for 300€ (used) and it's a full PC

Doesn't begin to compare with the N810. Too bulky, too heavy, too powerhungry.

Re: Is there anything comparable to the N810?

Agreed with lma. Some of us are looking for a "MID" form-factor not UMPC. Pocketable is key. ARM > x86 as far as battery life is concerned.

Well in terms of hardware, but in terms software they make devices that do the same things.

Most device devices these days have a 3.5inch, 3.7inch, 4.8inch, or 4.3inch screen

It kinda sucks having a slide out keyboard is uncommon on devices that aren't cellphones. If you need that get an OpenPandora or UMPC

Well Archos devices http://www.archos.com/ and SmartQ http://en.smartdevices.com.cn/index.html devices have that

Well the OpenPandora runs Angstrom which is similar to Maemo in many ways and runs similar applications. Archos devices run Android and also offer Angstrom as an alternative firmware. SmartQ device run Android and a modified version Ubuntu (which can run the majority of Linux applications)

That isn't an issue pretty much every device these days has that.

Easy Debian ran like crap, but only Maemo device run that as far as I know.

You can find Archos devices for around 200-300 dollars, SmartQ devices are usually 100-140 dollars for there 4.3inch model and 200-280 dollars for there 7inch models. The OpenPandora can be found for 350 dollars.

Also very common the only device that don't have that are Apple devices.

Any UMPC should let you do that. SmartQ devices can do that without much effort and come with multiple oses out of the box. Archos has always offered a special developer edition firmware that has Angstrom (similar to Maemo) and the community has created several. The OpenPandora can also run several oses.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

In terms of hardware there is simply nothing similar to the form factor on the Nokia n810. But there are many devices that are capable of running multiple oses and doing Linux things.
