I think it's a specific N800 media player code problem, in all likeliness yet another "smart" decision by an obscure and incompetent Nokia coder, and I don't see how Konttori will be able to resolve it without access to the media player's source code. We really, really, really need to get rid of Hildon and the rest of the Nokia software trash in the 770/N800 hardware. The machines are fine, but they're constantly f*cked up by stupid corporate drones. |
Re: Media Converter 1.41 released!
The linux needs to have the resolutions.txt in users home folder I think.
I'll do some testing on 4:3 videos tomorrow to see how they act. Sorry to anybody if the 4:3 videos have not turned out correctly. If the aspect ration that you had problems with wasn't 4:3, then what was it? |

Both these movies do display correctly in Mplayer, it's only the native media player that shows its incompetence. I reiterate that it is my firm belief that the responsibility lies with Nokia's coders who -- once again ! -- managed to "upgrade" a working program to a faulty one. |
Re: Media Converter 1.41 released!
I am also thinking it could be the N800 software. My converted 16:9 movies look fine on my PC but the same file is stretched vertically to fill the whole screen on the N800 when using Media Player or Canola. (not tried Mplayer)
however, I do still have one movies that I converted with 1.41 (? maybe) that shows in letterbox format on my N800). So, I am not sure what that means. |

Re: Media Converter 1.41 released!
I guess MC doesn't do .flv files?
oh well, back to using Super... :( |

a) I cannot find a way to tell it to compress a file to a certain filesize (playing with bitrates is a hit-and-miss affair, insofar that it's always a miss) and b) as of yet, I've still to find a way to to tell it to reduce a file to a given pixel size; there are lots of preprogrammed video sizes, but none of them suits the N800. I hate distortions. Other than that, it's okay, but because of those problems, I've "converted" (Ahh! the puns! the puns!! They never stop!!!) to VirtualDub, which at least produces files of the size and resolution (more or less) I tell it to and that will play in Mplayer (not the built in media player though...). Also, VirtualDub is a gem for converting DVDs I recorded with my PVR: yanking out the commercials is really easy. Suck on that, Disney. :D |

Re: Media Converter 1.41 released!
I still can't get MC to convert .flv files (like from youtube)
The status bar goes to 100% in a second and the resulting file is about 10k, if it doesn't crash outright. Using winXP-sp2 btw |
Re: Media Converter 1.41 released!
Just tried the Linux version. The java program starts fine, but when I click "convert", it complains that "cmd.exe" is missing.
WTF??? This is not Windows, of course there is no cmd.exe! |
