Oh, cool - it's only taken 27 posts to answer the question I asked back in post #4, and the answer seems to be that your N900 is not overheating in the slightest, but operating normally. Can I suggest if still you want it to run cooler than that, try using the device less? This will have the added bonus that you run into fewer problems with it.

Pardon the sarcasm, but, really... what do you want us to say?

Re: My N900 rapidly overheating...

Hi guys,

Im hving N900 fr the past 1nd hlf yrs.....
Recently im also suffering frm same probs... bt mine is kind f severe

My boy's history goes like this...

I got it frm ma frnd whu usd it fr 5 months.... No ovr clocking nothing; he didnt evn knw hw to instll aps frm repos.... So it ws good as brand new....

I have instld nitdroid, done overclocking and usually used it in 850 all the time.....
So good so fr....
One good day i pluged my 900 into usb port in my offic which ws disabld. It suddenly turned off and none of my tries booted the phone up

- so I changd the battery and evrything ws bak in trak

Going forward i changed my swappiness to 30 (2 months bak) and the device hd pretty good responsiveness aftr that
Then one day i left the phone for overnight charging and at morning wen i woke up it ws so hot (around 45.... ) .
Also instead of 100% the battery ws shwing 80% charge while plugged in
Within 2 hours battery drained out....

Frm then on the same symptom prevails...
I havent done any particular app installation or updates during this time
The temp is as follows
Sitting idle :36-40
I tried to play POP (port) :50:eek:
gprs :45-48
gprs and charging :above 50

I ws in an AC room for a while and temp dropped to 27.
on playing POP it shooted back to 50.

(All the temp is as of frm QCPU freq)

I tried another battery and things are all the same..
I just dnt wnt to giv it to service centers since im having a lot of tweaks in my baby :(

I think they didn't take it as an issue for your explaining it in detail...it was the way your post was written. :)

Firstly do bear in mind the "temp" is the battery sensor temp.
The actual internals maybe hotter.

Have you tested for processes with top?
Have you tested for CPU usage with powertop?
Have you tried the device with standard clock speeds 250-600?

Yes i was aware of that, It is the battery which is heating up the device.., I persume.....

I tried top , none of the processes are eating up the cpu (I have to check while the phone is idle, right?)...
In fact i have the cpu app that shows usage near Menu button,
-Even it is not shooting up

Yes the whole temp readings i just got in normal clock speed only...
When iam overclocking the rate of temp ascend is considerably increased
