Ok, if you say so.

I voted for 'tabbed browsing' because....

1) Personal preference:
I like browsing my bloglines' subscriptions, internettablettalk forum, etc. clicking on relevant links to open in the background in tabs. On the desktop I use firefox and maxthon and on my n800, Minimo.

2) It does not force users, who do not wish tabbed browsing, to use tabs, as the following options could be set under preferences:
-open links in windows
-open links in tabs
Additionally
-open new tabs/windows in background
-open new tabs/windows in foreground

3) It would add stability to the browser:
Although the browser on my n800, of course. never crashes, it could one day do so theoretically :)
In that case our browser will be able to remember all of its children=tabs and offer to restore them the next time we open the browser. as happens now in firefox and maxthon. I believe that to be a very important feature.

4) It might not take too many resources/delay other enhancements as the code more or less exists already thanks to the legendary "tonikitoo / Antonio Gomes'' coder of our Minimo browser also being a member of the development: team :)

I therefore believe that voting for 'tabbed browsing' Bug #1695 is a win-win situation.

@'tonikitoo / Antonio Gomes'
if you do read this thread, any chance of releasing as a beta or alternative an extension enabling the tabbed browsing functionality, please?

I 'voted' for it as well over there.

Implementing tabs does not increase stability by itself. It just means that the devs are saving the tab states each and every time they change. There's nothing that is keeping them from implementing that already with the window method but it hasn't been done yet which tells me that they don't find it important. I wouldn't be surprised if tabs are implemented but that they would be lost upon crashing.

Sure would still be nice if there were user-selectable window modes.

You have my vote, Milhouse.

I say yes to tabs as well. Once you really get into the device for some serious browsing, it is tough not being able to keep a few tabs open.

They don't have to be huge (in vertical pixel height). Can be optional of course!

Could be a slide-in/out tab bar at the top ;)
There when you need it, to switch between them.

You know what would be neat for the tabs? This guy did an iPhone style keyboard, which was recently posted here. You could just scroll over the letters and they popped up, and it didn't activate until you let go.

I think it would be great to have the tabs just be icons for the site your visiting, and when you tap you can scroll over all of them and the name will pop up as you go over them. When you let go, that tab activates.

Just my .03 cents.

I really need to get into programming this thing.

Re: Tabbed browsing: Needs your votes!

I have to tell you, as much as I love tabs on the desktop, my limited experience with them in a mobile setting (Minimo on N800, Universe on Palm TX) has completely turned me off. The conventional tab bar takes up too much screen real estate unless you make it too small to touch with your finger (down with styluses!). You could do some UI innovation; I like the idea of touching an icon and having the tab list slide out, but I have to point out that idea is functionally no different than what Opera already does when you open multiple windows; touching the Opera icon on the taskbar (or pulling up the running task list with the home button) pulls up a list of all the open windows.

Having said all that, I suppose if tabs don't cause any extra pain or get in the way UI-wise, it's OK to have them available. But I honestly don't think I'll be using them.m.m.

But of course! User-selectable options are always good.
