In the latter case you are in open mode (but there is a solution available by HtheB).

I have open mode kernel. It asks to define an new code but when I type an code it says that that code isn't correct

what is the HtheB solution?

This IS the behavior with OpenMode kernel!
CAL area locked, so no chance to write a security (device lock) code.

Re: N9 security code reset

Sorry for dragging up this old old topic but...

I gave my n9 to a friend whose phone was broken as a temp device and his kid managed to lock it down, I really don't want to flash the device and lose all my stuff just to gain access.

Was a way to get this ever found? Or can I brute force over USB instead of typing on the screen?

Edit: don't know if this should be reported but my-meego (on the first page of this discussion) now redirects to pron.

Re: N9 security code reset

Seems all binaries involved in flashing and firmware have vanished so even if I did want to do a destructive recovery that is no longer an option :/

No they haven't!

Yes it still is!
I did it very recently, and the firmware is still there. You can download directly, but I'm also actively seeding the torrent.
