That's like a kid in the back of the car asking that when the car just drove off the driveway ;)

I feel we have a loooong wait ahead of us for this

How about this?

A Qt XMPP library

http://code.google.com/p/qxmpp/

There are 2 big mobile open source projects lacking:

E-mail client.
XMPP/Jingle client.

At least I wasn't able to find any.

In the CDP there was at least one F/OSS email client that was meant to be delivered.
Check out the wiki....
I recall asking one of the devs, & he was quite blase` as-to-when he might start work.
He basically said he might start working heavily in 2012, once study is out of the way.
So much for N950 devs being obligated to complete "something".

I was thinking if it could be possible to use Thunderbird core with Gecko engine, and to make some Qt UI on top with IPC approach developed by Romaxa. Open source should encourage reusing the effort, and reinventing the wheel is really unpleasant. Sorry for offtopic, it really deserves a separate discussion.

Yes, what I was discussing in the Fennec thread RE Romaxa's latest work...
That's an excellent idea, maybe he & his wife would be interested in taking that on too!?
I think that's too much for them, maybe there's others that'd like to build on his/others work.
You should start a dedicated thread, but if you remember can you please link to it here?

..Why dont you simply use the email client provided on the device?

I'll try to talk to Romaxa to see if it's a good idea. I'll open a separate thread about it to avoid taking this one away from the primary subject.

Open source e-mail client is needed simply because it's not available anywhere else, for example on Nemo OS running on the same device [N9(50)], or any future upcoming device with mobile Linux. And in general it's better to use open source software when possible.
