I felt the need of download manager once and created one for myself. Its just a simple downloader with very limited functionality but you can give it a try.

wget is quite powerful (not sure about MU/rapidshare types of sites, but works on gprs, supports continuing broken downloads... google 'man wget' to learn of its usage)

try this:

sudo run-standalone.sh /opt/usr/bin/downloadmanger

It should work. The desktop file I have created is pointing somewhere else.

I am not cent percent sure why I used sudo but most probably because I have confi file somewhere in /home/user which I was not able to save without sudoe (while i developed another app and same would apply for this one if I developed it further). I am unsure if this app will save anything at /home/user/Downloads if sudo is not used. I don't know how it to fix those permissions.
