Yes, Conversations is this what you are looking for. File transfer (using Jingle), encryption, audio messages - just end user friendly.

It indeed looks promising. Do you know any public servers which support HttpUploadComponent? (As I understood, Conversations uses peer-to-peer file transfer for transferring image messages, however using that component makes it possible to send images to the server. I'm NOT interested in Jingle file transfer since it is peer-to-peer).

I tried the web client for skype the other day and found that it didn't support file transfer. But that also made me realise that sure it's nice to have built in file transfer but nothing I find absolutely necessary. I could as well upload the file to a cloud service like dropbox or something. Shouldn't be that hard for the client to send the file to the cloud service and the link to the other person.

Which one? If you are talking about mine, you should wait a little longer. Maybe in one month there will be a minimally usable version out there.

It was resumed just recently, then I go traveling for a few days. I'm going to continue from today/tomorrow.

Well, unfortunately, not something worth announcing. There has been some improvement to the backend, but UI still needs work. registration is OK, and I'm working on the contact list & messages view.

If someone is willing to help, I might be able to create a public repo sooner and accept contributions.
