Re: 2.2.0 EA / Mouhijoki

They say the built-in openvpn solution is now "out of beta". Does that mean it's back in alpha, because it's worse than it was before. No matter what I do I can't get it to work properly and create the appropriate routes. Running "openvpn --config myconfig.ovpn" from a devel-su prompt works, sets up the routes accordingly, but that's cumbersome at best. Moreover, Securefishnet no longer works, so I'm essentially stuck without VPN unless I use it from the command line.

Anyone have any experience ironing this out? Lol!

from this release i can connect to vpn in my work so for me this app is already working.

Improved support for VPNs. It’s now out of...order.

Tried to remove and add again?

This is the primary reason I care about Sailfish at all. If I want a computer, I know where to find one.

Lol, out of order! Yeah, I've removed it and all that. I can get it working manually without ovpn file, but it doesn't create routes. I'm going to try again manually, then find the config file it creates and add redirect-gateway def1 to it... maybe that'll work.

Unfortunately no white bar. First see brief message like "one moment" then get Jolla splash screen. Then screen goes dark, maybe a slight haze. That's it. After about an hour and half I powered it down...

Hi.

I have also noticed changes, but it still works fine for me.
The only problem I had was due to my 'specific' configuration where VPN is up while out of my house and down while at home's WiFi....so I had to modify a script with new calls to dbus..

Otherwise it's working great.

I recall that I had to play with the command:

Code:

connmanctl move-before ...
connmanctl move-after ...

in order to get routing working fine, but that was long before this update...
Regards.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Do you make those changes in a config file on the filesystem? If at all possible, can you take screenshots when/if you have time? I'll keep playing with it in the meantime. For reference, I'm using standard ovpn configs from Privateinternetaccess.

Yep, they resize /fimage partition just like I did manually from the start. Originally it was
/dev/mmcblk0p52 1.3G 488M 813M 38% /fimage

They could've made a flag to skip doing this...

I can only recommend to do a fresh install for 2.2.0. I had lots of problems before after an OTA Update, now everything is fine. eg I wasn't able to start some programs a second time after I closed them (whogo maps, kodiremote, ...).

Hi. I have the original Jolla tablet I bought from Taobao. I'm a little confused about what you wrote. Did you mean to not be afraid of doing a factory reset? Thanks!

yes do not afraid. Or check if you have libs installed rebasing jolla libs. like webkit gstreamer from leszek. Revert it

Hi.

Here's an example of what I meant with 'move-before/move-after'. You can use the connection manager binary: connmanctl.
Note that connections 3rd and 4th have had their prevalences changed.

Code:

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ connmanctl services
*AR Jolla                vpn_fqdn_dn_net_merproject_org
*AO Movistar            cellular_21407XXXXXYYYYY_context1
*  Wired                ethernet_000000000000_cable
*A  Jalisco_            wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4a616c6973636f5f_managed_psk
*A  MOVISTAR_5FB3        wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4d4f5649535441525f35464233_managed_psk
*A  MOVISTAR_698D        wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4d4f5649535441525f36393844_managed_psk

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ connmanctl move-before wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4a616c6973636f5f_managed_psk ethernet_d64276b528d9_cable

Moved wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4a616c6973636f5f_managed_psk before ethernet_d64276b528d9_cable

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ connmanctl services
*AR Jolla                vpn_fqdn_dn__net_merproject_org
*AO Movistar            cellular_21407iXXXXXYYYYY_context1
*A  Jalisco_            wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4a616c6973636f5f_managed_psk
*  Wired                ethernet_000000000000_cable
*A  MOVISTAR_5FB3        wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4d4f5649535441525f35464233_managed_psk
*A  MOVISTAR_698D        wifi_XXYYZZa0babd_4d4f5649535441525f36393844_managed_psk
[nemo@Sailfish ~]$

Keep in mind that the lines are not wrapped really :) You may want to test more by issuing the command:

Code:

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ connmanctl  help
Regards.

wtf?

I am sure I read juiceme saying something about
"as an exercise how to enable tethering from command line"
but I cannot find it with the 'normal search here on TMO...

And since when is this:
Code:

,---
| Sailfish OS 2.2.0.29 (Mouhijoki)
'---
[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ ping 1.1.1.1
PING 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1): 56 data bytes
ping: permission denied (are you root?)
[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ devel-su ping 1.1.1.1
Password:
PING 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 1.1.1.1: seq=0 ttl=59 time=19.804 ms

???

See page #4 of this same thread :)

What happened is Jolla changed the iputils ping to the busybox internal implementation which requires net_raw permissions to use.
just add nemo to group and Bob's your uncle.

Above post has two topics (should have better divided).
I remember you saying about tethering does not work amymore without having GPRS data but it should be possible to acivate any way from command line. (as an exercise)
But I cannot find via TMO search with such key words.

Another question regarding this update:
Code:

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ version --verify
+ ngfd-plugin-droid-vibrator-1.0-1.3.12.armv7hl
- package ngfd-plugin-droid-vibrator is not installed
+ qt5-feedback-haptics-droid-vibrator-0.1.0-1.3.8.armv7hl
- package qt5-feedback-haptics-droid-vibrator is not installed

One ore more packages are not at the expected version for Sailfish OS 2.2.0.29 (Mouhijoki)
(+ = expected version, - = installed version)
[nemo@Sailfish ~]$

The update did not go 100%. I powered off device and did a version --dup afterwards ( it started after update but somehow connectivity did not work, only on the second boot).

But also after --dup these two packages did not install on Jolla C.
So what are they for?

--edit
and another prove that the internal search is not as good as everybody says. Try to find the latest update thread only knowing the last part of name 'joki' (sounds similar to our Bundes-Jogi :)), screenie 1.
You need to know the full name (which is quite opposite to a search functionality), screenie 2.

If you know it ends with joki you can use a wildcard and search for *joki. Three results, one of them this thread :)

*joki and mouh* gives the same 3 results as without the extra, so unless someone knew the future 2.2 release name in the 2.0.2 thread I'm guessing not. Wildcards are better than nothing at least!

Of this I heartly agree. There was absolutely no need to remove the post and doing things like that will always leave the forum in sadder state, holed like brick of Emmental cheese.

Looks to me @svalx is a stealthy guy indeed; registered the nick today, asked just one question and deleted it few minutes after that...

The "problem" is, that 'ping' now needs net_raw permissions. Seems like a reasonable requirement, security wise.

Re: 2.2.0 EA / Mouhijoki

The VPN finally works for me when using my proxy.sh OpenVPN configuration files. Previously my IP wouldn't change, or the connection to the VPN wouldn't work, depending on attempts.

I don't know if this was fixed specifically by 2.2.0.29 though, as I was several updates late until yesterday.

However, since the upgrade from the UI didn't work, I updated using

Code:

ssu re 2.2.0.29
version --dup

Previously, with the UI updated, the phone did go into the update process, but eventually returned "Sailfish could not be updated, please retry later." and rebooted in the original version. Now, after the manual update, I'm not sure everything has been updated correctly. Here are a list of issues I'm facing so far:

- can't enter "Sailfish updates" and "Backups" sub-pages in the Settings, despite uninstalling Unapply all patches patch;
- no Emoji keyboard in the list of keyboards in Settings;
- applying patches in Patchmanager 3, then restarting Lipstick, ends up in all patches being unapplied.

Any ideas? I already did pkcon refresh, but don't know how to try upgrading SFOS again since I can't access the UI, and version --dup now returns an issue related to libqtwebkit-something.so missing.

Re: 2.2.0 EA / Mouhijoki

Hmmm, not really an expert here.

But what about
Code:

version --verify
and check missing (wromg version) packages?

Or reinstall the package that is related to 'libqtwebkit':
Code:

pkcon search name libqtwebkit
Searching by name
Starting
Refreshing software list
Querying
Finished
Installed      libqtwebkit5-5.6.2+git7-1.4.3.armv7hl (installed)              Web c
ontent engine library for Qt - core runtime files
Available      libqtwebkit5-devel-5.6.2+git7-1.4.3.armv7hl (jolla)            Web c

Installed      libqtwebkit5-widgets-5.6.2+git7-1.4.3.armv7hl (installed)      Web c

Re: 2.2.0 EA / Mouhijoki

Thanks! I have first ran the following command to reinstall every single package (minus some errors here and there depending on permissions):

Code:

for p in $(rpm -q -a --qf "%{NAME}\n" | sort); do echo $p; pkcon install -y $p; done
It took several hours but seems to have resolved several issues, e.g., I can now access Sailfish updates and Backups in the Settings application. I already had manually reinstalled jolla-settings and jolla-settings-sailfishos, but somehow it didn't solve this, probably another package was responsible for this problem. Reinstalling all packages also restored the Twitter feed in the event screens that had disappeared, not sure which package is associated with this. Patches seem to apply correctly as well now, good news!

I have run "version --verify", several packages are not in the right version:

Code:

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ version --verify
+ jolla-settings-accounts-extensions-3rd-party-all-0.3.14.1-10.90.1.jolla.armv7hl
- jolla-settings-accounts-extensions-3rd-party-all-0.3.39-1.6.9.armv7hl
+ ngfd-plugin-droid-vibrator-1.0-1.3.12.armv7hl
- package ngfd-plugin-droid-vibrator is not installed
+ patterns-sailfish-consumer-generic-0.9.5.1-10.5.1.jolla.noarch
- patterns-sailfish-consumer-generic-1.0.7-1.6.4.noarch
+ qt5-feedback-haptics-droid-vibrator-0.1.0-1.3.8.armv7hl
- package qt5-feedback-haptics-droid-vibrator is not installed
+ sailfish-content-configuration-jolla-0.1.1-10.2.1.jolla.noarch
- sailfish-content-configuration-jolla-0.1.1-1.2.4.noarch
+ sailfish-content-graphics-jolla-0.0.8-10.3.3.jolla.noarch
- sailfish-content-graphics-jolla-0.0.8-1.2.2.noarch

One ore more packages are not at the expected version for Sailfish OS 2.2.0.29 (Mouhijoki)
(+ = expected version, - = installed version)

I have tried reinstalling them, but they were not all found (the *.noarch ones I believe; they returned an error of this type: "Fatal error: File './noarch/sailfish-content-configuration-jolla-0.1.1-10.1.1.jolla.noarch.rpm' not found on medium 'https://store-repository.jolla.com/features/2.2.0.29/customers/jolla/armv7hl/?credentials=store'"), and even those that seemed to install successfully (the *.armv7hl I think) showed up again when I ran "version --verify" again, as if nothing had been reinstalled.

Re: 2.2.0 EA / Mouhijoki

I didnt notice this being reported anywhere.

Does anyone has also issues with email notifications with exchange?
I have now installed the latest OS version apart from Xperia X also to Jolla C and i see the same behaviour.

The behaviour i have is the following:
there has been no notification;
open the mail application and see several new mails;
minimise application and notice no errors - last sync few minutes ago and number of new mails correct;
wait few more minutes for the next automatic sync (it is set to update every 15 minutes);
sync completes correctly;
ask for manual sync; when complete there is a notification and list of mails in the event view.

Note notifications in general work. I get plenty from calendar events, sms, telegram etc.
I have no patches installed.

Thanks for any hints or confirmation.
It's quite annoying to open the mail application to check if new mails arrived :)
