Had a really bad night. Woke up constantly and saw a dream where my computer was hijacked. At last rose up about 4:30am and saw router blinking a lot - without any device on or connected to it. Shut the router down.
We moved to a new place in January. Noticed that router started to make reboots. Changed it's name to HoneyPotBackTrack (hoping it would give a signal), made it hidden and gave access to it only for certain devices - something which should have been on from the beginning of using routers. But now I had this dream where I was being hacked all the time and woke up to internet traffic on my router without me being the one making that traffic. Well I have N900. Checked the wifi networks and what do I find. A wifi called Hidden WLAN all open to use without passwords. My work android phone or my wifes work iPhone neither spotted that. After couple of seconds that open hidden wifi was gone and there became a new locked wifi called shodan. Went outside for a walk and checked which apartments have lights on at 5am. Next gonna make a walk with wifi detection on to see where the open hidden wifi and shodan are strongest and try to spot the place. |

Man, Maemish... :) Your hijack adventure is quite a story... I hope you will find the place (and not really bad guys in masks) - at least you have a n900 :)
About KolibriOS - as i saw it is only x86 and not found anything about arm... So I think it is not possible to run it in chroot, bochs or any other way... |

Forgot to mention that after I changed the name of my network and made it hidden there appeared a network with my previous network name but it was soon taken away. Now thinking different possiblities. Maybe I have to either setup a vmmachine and connect to the open honeypot and check what happens and try to get some address where to send a greeting gift or start to learn to use my one N900 with pwnyexpress installed.
I hate this situation cause I needed to get rid of learning new difficult stuffs after I had a panic disorder period in the end of last year. Now I'm forced to stress my brains again. Have to check now from router logs what there has been going on at night. I thought hiding a network would be enough but learned this morning they are easily spotted if someone wants to find them. |

I have TL-WN722N usb wifi dongle. I have also a usb female/male cable to connect that dongle with N900. Could this be possible to get working with N900 or should it be specifically for N900 compiled driver which to use? There are instructions for debian wheezy but thought to ask before messing my N900 setup again with need to reflash.
Or is the right way to use the wifi maintenance connection points in the N900 board to get an extension antenna working? |

To reach further. But I checked things and dropped that idea. There is thread about RTL-SDR but not gonna go that path. Then I tried to check if DVB-TV dongle could work but found out from TMO about problems with that too. Have to stop now. Mind just goes from one thing to another.

After dropping those I changed to convert movies for N900. Just converted Algorithm. It is a hacker movie free on youtube but it wasn't the best edition. So I edited 40min away and now its about 50min. Editing movies better is one of my hobbies. Doing it with a windows moviemaker with only 4gb ram premium laptop (not for gaming) with semi graphic card and not the fastest processor is just stupid. Still have done it with it - even though I have had iMac27 for couple of years. But because I haven't had a mac ever, after I had fixed the free iMac by baking the graphic card in the oven I just tossed it behind a chair for couple of years. Now we have taken it out and we have already used it for watching series online. I think I could edit with iMovie and it would be much faster. My next project is to edit The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy BBC tv serie to a movie. I hope a lot from that.
I edited the original Bourne movie with Richard Chamberlain from 3h to 2h. That took time but it became much better than the original. I tried to find to whom I should sent it and contacted the Paramount or something which had made and published it but they could not point me anyone whom to make a contact. So no one else has seen it except me. Would like to show it to someone who has watched that movie more than twice to get an opinion. I have also thought of sending this edited version of algorithm to it's makers but too afraid to make a contact. If they won't like it I don't want them to know who I am. Hackers you know. So no one else has seen this edition either. This did not become as good as my other editions but still nicer to watch than original. It has so many slow scenes where the story just won't run fluently and some educational talks they give in the film are just too much. Tried to save the point they wanted to make though. Movies I have on N900: Harold and Maude,The Party (Peter Sellers), Algorithm my edition. Movies converting: Secret life of Mitty, Eddie the Eagle, Hackers, Johny Mnemonic, Conspiracy Theory (watched like 30 times for real) and some other. I have PinkPanther DVD Box which could work too. I have somewhere already Jacgues Tati Playtime and The Trip, possibly also The Magic Trip documentary. |

For a while I could not check my routers system logs. Now I could. Enabled Ddos and all kinds of stuffs, intrusion warnings and smurfattack. Should I seek help from Gargamel? I really need some help because now I do not wan't to use the router before it is secure. To use wlan the firewall have to be set to low, otherwise the web won't show anything or connect to any site. Made some searches and it was said to be ok, that NAT is enough and that connection suppliers have already disabled the most common ports which are attacked. I do not feel peacefull while smurffs are attacking. I am on their side! Checked what is smurffattack (do not understand any router stuff) and it seems someone is using my router for smurffattack against someone else, right? But how did he get access on my router? Was it by cracking my wifi so it would be a hacker close to my home? Or was it by installing ubuntu gamepack from a russian site without checking the download - and then gave access to router to that system even for just for some hours? But I hid the wlan, but down wps, defned devices with access permission but don't understand the lan settings at all.
Edit: Panicking is my thing. Reset the router and took from internet, changed admin and wifi passwords, connected devices, hid the wifi, set what devices are aloud to use wlan, disabled wps and upnn, made some other adjustments and connected to internet again. Friend says that my router identifies smurfs so I should not worry. Really should take some coursde on these matters to get peace of mind. |

The Hobbit had precious fewer moments. I would rather watch the Rankin version of the Hobbit instead. As far as JRR's books go...got them all in hard cover ...good reads....pull them out now and then. Better than all of the above is to be read to.. BBC Radio Actors Guild doing 13 hour long LOTR ... Nicol Williamson (Merlin from the film Excalibur) narrating The Hobbit for hours And Audio Books of all JRR's other works ... Is the way to enjoy them .. Personally as far as the written word goes...JRR or any master ...should never be put through the meat grinder of an editor .. That is serious abridging...and loss of good atmosphere and mood setting. |

This thread has a title which is supposed to describe the purpose of this thread. If one who writes here does not succeed on that - some has found thid thread amusing though - that is a thing to critisize. It is uinder community because it is for community. Things here are not "Off Topic" as long as they try to answer the calling of the topic.
If enough people finds this thread not amusing at all, not giving for the community anything, and merely something off topic - I vote this thread to be moved under "Off Topic". Otherwise I hold my stand and try to give the community back something. |

But just because the title contains the word "Community" in it ....does not a purposeful informative thread for the Community ...make. The topics inside your thread are all over the place, no fixed direction, no continuity in inquiry ... As great as it is to read... It is a "Whatever - Is - On - The - Mind - Of - Whoever - is Posting - At - the - Time." thread Which is fundamentally the domain of "Off Topic" Taking a high road that doesn't exist doesn't fly with me either .. Well that became clear - again - your opinion of this thread. I accept it as a valid opinion, but now this discussion has gone off topic. I would surely love to keep this as an amusing thread. But - our discussions about this thread has been labeled amusing before, so maybe in the end this did not go off topic after all. You and me, we fit together as hot oil and water. Are you sure you are not able to come to our Maemo meeting to our summer cottage on 20th march?

I may have brought this up before but I think what could be a reason for misunderstanding: I hold you as a closer friend than you hold me. I mean that when you are close friends and you know for sure there are no bad intentions ever between you two, that let's you speak in a way that could otherwise and from someone else understood as said with a bad intention - like an insult. "Yo, nigger!" is accepted from some without a question but from others never.
For me we are friends here, all of us. And even if not - I never do online insults. I do not write with bad intentions. It is just something I do not do, cause I don't like that kind of stuff. So if you would assume that I would be your best and closest friend of whom you are sure there is nothing between you two, so you do not have any reason to believe I would wan't to make you feel bad in any way, would that change how you understand and interpret what I wrote? Could you find it possible to hear it as being just something friends can say to each others without it meaning anything bad? Well it was that kind of talking in this end of the line. |

If you think it from my side, this is my only social media forum I read and hang around. I have decided to make my nest on this tree, decided to jump into this water where I can barely swim. So cutting down this tree or insulting someone who can swim - I am not that stupid to do something like that - intentionally at least.
I try to think the best of people, even when disagreeing, trying to find a way to see both sides. I think that became clear on the F(x)tec thread when there were some everyone else was against. Even though I found it hard to accept some sayings I tried to fill the gap between people. And referring to the topic of this thread - that should make clear that nothing in this thread is ment for anything else than as an amusement. |

But occasionally people find me annoying, real annoying. I don't try to speak that part away. I seem to trigger nerves sometimes. Showing where is some tension. And like in massage - just a little triggering can loose things up. It is painful but the relief is worth it. I am speaking of a massage now.
There is another thing with what I have been misunderstood in life and people have been really annoyed with me. I share a lot what I do. I like to create at a very fast pace keeping the bar low with the end result and share it with others. What I aim with that? To encourage others to create and share without shame. I love to see what people are doing in their life and what they have created. Well how I am being interpreted? I run after honor and glory without seeing I am not that good, and people are ashamed on my behalf and try politely to make me see that "you really aren't that good that I mysef would present it to others". But because I am not after honor and glory it doesn't hit on me what they say and I don't mind - which annoys them because in their eyes I make a fool of myself and just don't see it and they feel so bad for me. I know I can do many things which some can't, but I also know that I am not a master in anyway in what I am doing. For instance I am building a car. Some are: awesome! But the one's who build cars themselves in a proper way are: Horrible! That is not the way cars should be build. But I am not aiming to win a contest or trying to win respect in any circles with my car. I am building it for fun, just to try something new and create something new without really a possibility to not succeed. Doing is the thing for me, not the polished end result. And that is something some can't tolerate, cause if they would do something sooo wrong' they would not wan't anyone to know about it. For me: I find it funny and amusing if I do something wrong or mess around and make a clown of myself, first in my own eyes and then hopefully in other's. That is the way I have ment my posts here would be understood: "Can't believe I did this / reacted like this / tried this! Isn't it funny?" I am not asking help in this thread - even though the words I write would say so. I ask help in proper threads or make new ones. And try not to be that funny/clown in those threads. For me laughing at myself is freedom - and neccessity in my case to be able to stay alive. Otherwise I would have died of shame long ago. I am that embarrasing guy, managing to do sooo embarrasing things, saying the wrong words in wrong time, doing things which end up being funny - after some time has passed. So I encourage people to create and share with bar set to the lowest and can say things like "Wonderfull!" or "Awesome!". But I will not say something is good if it is not and make people think they are more skilled than they are. Creating is a goal to cheer in itself, misleading people is another thing. It has been seen in talent shows how bad thing it is when you make someone think he or she is better than they actually are and people have believed it. That can lead to situations that will make a lot of damage - like ending up to be a public clown in youtube. So if someone is aiming at success or profit I am very straight in my words, even sounding harsh while pointing what is done wrong in my opinion. I like to read what other people write (like poems or stories) but I don't wan't to read any of the books my friends have published. I would really like to read them before they are published, but never after, when there is not anymore possible to correct things in what they wrote. And I like to listen music my friends do and enjoy it with them - but if they make a record I don't wan't to listen it after it has been put out, if I have had no possibility to listen it before and suggest things. So if someone is after profit or success, I take it seriously and try to do the best I can to help them. If they are instead doing things just for fun or out of love for creating things, then I can just enjoy what they have made. I am not after honor, glory, success or profit. You don't need to help me to reach that or pitty me when it seems obvious I am not gonna make it with my creation which I share. In other threads where I ask for help - I appreciate all the help I can get. |

Aand (does he not stop ever!) if for someone is important to be a cool guy - I am not the man to hang out with in public. So sorry on my wife's behalf. We went to see a movie. I noticed my friend sitting couple of rows ahead. I shouted his name but he just turned a little from side to side but not enough to see me in the back. Well we had bought candies. I took a hard one (better to throw and hit where you aim) and threw it - and hit my friend in the back of his head. Jesh! He turned angry to see who made him to suffer and saw me as I waved at him smiling. At that moment I understood he was not my friend. And the lights went out. My wife was so ashamed! She had been already of me shouting there, then after throwing candies, and then she wanted to die when I told it wasn't my friend after all. And then I said to her that when the movie ends I will go to apologize. "NOOOOOO!!! No you will not do something so embarrasing!" Well I did. It was embarrassing. But also funny I think.
But now I have to agree with endso that this thread belongs to "Off topic". At least for me "Off topic" threads do not show in the latest posts list on TMO and I do not wan't this thread to be something popping on the list. That list is like for important matters which to follow. So moderator, could this thread be moved to "Off Topic" subforum, please? |

Thanks pichlo. But endso is right on that this thread is better under "Off Topic". If this would end up there, there would be more room to amuse. No need for posts for or against different views. I believe there is just some kind of misunderstanding/-pronunciation/-wording or something I just can't see because not a native american speaking english.

Well I disagree with you - seems to become a habit - and will argue I didn't say anything that should offend or make angry any individual, be of any race, colour or sexual orientation.
I bet if they would read my post they would get what I said - the figure of speech - and probably even laugh or give a meaningful nod "I'm with you there, man. Speaking throught, man. True dat, man". No racism here, no insults, no need for that. So I do not have to worry I think. I have friends from different races and colours and cultures who know me and understand what I mean. The same yard we used to live lived a muslim kurdi family. Very religious wife. One summer evening I was walking outside of our yard. Warm evening with a clear sky. Suddenly the sky started to flash like with lightning, but without any sounds and the colour of the light was not as bright as with lightning. I looked a bit upper and saw that in the kurdi family's balcony there was a white robed figure, hands toward the weirdly flashing sky. SHE IS A WITCH AND SHE IS MAKING THE SKY TO FLASH!!! That idea was a real thought in my mind for about three seconds before it was gone. I had just watched in two days all the Harry Potter movies and was still a bit in that world. Oh boy the kurdi woman laughed when I told her I had thought she was a witch who made those sheet lights. She said she had been so impressed of the abnormal lightning that she had been praising allah hands in the air on the balcony. The party killer was though when I in their family meeting told in the middle of the conversation - concerning middle east and Israel - that my ancestor was a jew who came in Finland. Very akward silent moment around the table. Everybody stopped talking and looked at me. I wasn't anymore a friendly neighbour but a possible enemy. But it was only a party killer, not a friendship killer. And I don't hunt - yet. Have never been hunting anything else than books, film cameras, N900s and old computers from flee markets. Have thought of trying to get the test done for hunting license. Father would have too guns I don't want to go to the governent if he dies. One is a black powder Immanuel Meffert drillinger from around 1920. Other a german military rifle. Have thought of selling them to get a shotgun if I will get the license. We have land and one hunting club uses our land so I could probably get to become a member easy - one qualification you need to have to get a license for a gun. But have not yet wanted so badly to shoot to kill any living creature so taking the test just hangs. |

Must be a cultural language thing, but I can't really tell was your intention to - as a good friend - give me advice for not to make mistakes which may get me into trouble? Or did you disguise a mock to a threat and tried to get me be alert what I say so I would be scared of getting beaten or worse because of how I speak/write/talk/chat and that would end converstaion?
I kinda got the impression of a friend chatting with friend in the first part of your post, but in the last part the tone changed dramatically and I don't know what happened in the middle. Maybe the mixed feelings with your response got me to defend - again - my point of view or what I said against your opinion. No bad intentions. Would just not like to upset you again and again, and that is why I try to get a hold of this matter if that could be possible. It may be or not. I may just be the perfect trigger to your nerves and whatever I say it get's on your nerves. It is like that with some people. There are some with that kind of voice or way to speak with a real slow pace or words they are using that you just can't take it That would be hilarious! We trying to have a proper conversation, and the other triggers whatever the other one says and then the other starts to defend "I didn't mean..." and just triggers more. Endless wheel of life. |

Its part nuance, part presentation, part foot in mouth, part wilful ignorance, part oblivious ..to the potential emotional reaction of the company you are speaking with, and a great huge heaping dose of talking before thinking and not first thinking before talking... and assessing the ramification and reaction of your words in front of others and their personal issues with your thoughtless effrontery. That... Maemish... Is exactly the issue. Hell... You don't see a problem with talking out loud in a Muslim gathering about your Jewish family member ? Of course everyone went silent... There is an obvious gap here the way we feel and/or understand things. But it's ok. None of us ment to be the same as the other. This difference does not affect me honouring you of your work here for N8X0 devices. Or your help you have given to countless of people, either newcomers as me or just people passing by.
But - if this thread annoyes someone is it possible just to skip it, leave it alone, not waste time on it? I do not post on this thread too often, so it is not in anyones face all the time. It is not a daily annoyance, not even weekly, barely a monthly. But it is still there, in existence, I admit. |

Already shared here that I have tried to get Sims 4 working on linux. Bought it through online (cds + code) and then tried with ubuntu mate, ubuntu game edition, slax gameover edition etc. Nothing worked and never got to the point to actually installing the game. at last gave up and - installed Win10! Which I did not wan't to do. Now got it installing the game - just to get an information "The code you entered is already in use". Aargh!!! Now have to start a battle with the seller of this matter. Just hoping it would go easily but fraid not. Used like easily 20-30 hours with this matter. Stupid game. Stupid wife who accepted to gave the game to my daughter. Stupid daughter who wants to play that stupid game. Stupid... well me, accepting to all this stupidity.
And again my router won't show logs at all, just empty page there, so I probably have to reset my router again to be able to see - or maybe it is the firefox browser which doesn't show it! Yes, I believe so. Gonna try tomorrow. |

Was today metaldetecting with my friend. He found a muffy iron plate about 2cm x 4cm size. He went back home and washed it. This cropped image is the part of that pressplate where there were still letters seen. I flipped the image so this is the mirror image where you can read the text you can press with it. I figured out what is the text in full. Press the image and open in new window to see it better.

If anyone figures out what that text could be for real please share. We are puzzled cause it is like very old rusty piece of metal on a field in Finland. Maybe a press plate for a poster or flyer or something, but why, what for, what has it said?
