I have one, got it before I got my N900.
It was never in a stable configuration on any of the compatible OSs.
The hardware is cool, all components had FOSS drivers, but it was an independent project and the community software never got to the point that the N900 did. For example I never had an install that would ring incoming calls before the call timed out at even ~80% of the time. FYI JoergRW(old school famous at TMO) was an engineer for the GTA02 and designed GTA04 upgrade board.

I had one too.

With some of the later OSes I could reliably take calls. Namely the SHR-Project and QtMoko

However the device was still extremely limited in regard to resources. GPS could be utilized by an APP named TangoGPS, but there was no routing. You could import a pre-generated track and follow it. Using Navit for navigation was possible, but incredibly sluggish and tasked the device so much that phone calls could indeed be missed. Geocaching apps where available.

Also the handling was quite unpleasant with its strange shape and the deeply recessed screen.

All in all it was impressive what developers got out of this device and it was an interesting journey. But in 2010 when its screen cracked while I had it in my pocket with nothing else I was happy to stop fiddling with it an concentrate fully on my new N900.

I am not sure where to post it, but there is a new marketplace dedicated to classic phones and smartphones, it is quite cheaper than eg ebay for sellers and is more open and flexible for transactions for buyers, while preserving payment insurance via PayPal.

It is quite new but might be a nice alternative in the future for both sellers and buyers.

(Just to avoid confusion, it is not mine, I just found it and thought that it might be worth a try)

Yes but private sale means that the buyer decides what he wants. If the price is right, he will sell. If it isn’t, it won’t.

I personally prefer to lower my prices way too much to get rid of something I want to sell, but I can’t blame anyone who wants to make as much as possible.

The problem in this market place is that there wss before devices with such good prices that people bought devices. Then one seller put a high price and that is the one advertise that stays there cause people do not buy it. But then next ones who came to sell to the same market place copied this higher price and no-one buys them anymore. I have been informing the sellers of this thing but normally they just think that I just want to buy with a lower price and I'm trying to fool them.

I’m pretty sure that if anyone wants to sell he will lower the price though.
The older and the rarer the device the bigger the price usually.
Take the N950 for example. Does it worth 50€ as a device? You can get much better devices for 50€. But people payed thousands of euros and keep paying hundreds to this day.

Any device with 4G, usable apps, active after sales support, so hundreds of smartphones in the 50€ range I guess.
Don’t get me wrong, I do love my N9’s and I play with them when I have time, but they stopped being a usable everyday smartphone many years ago.
Unless of course a call over 2G (if still available in your country) is all that matters I guess.

Not in the counties that I’m living.
Keyboard is a subjective thing. For me for example a small hwkb on a phone is the worst possible typing experience since I write with swype for more than a decade. Maybe for you it’s the best, but I’m pretty sure that even for that you don’t have to pay 1.000€ since you can have a N900 for 30-50€. That’s what I was discussing here with Maemish and brought that as an example.

And honestly even if this specific keyboard was out of this world, what am I supposed to do with it today? Type random commands on the terminal in a tiny screen with a super low resolution? Or send SMS? And even that won’t work 2 years from now for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I try to say why some people are ready pay so much, there can be another reasons that it is collectors item. You have freedom to type any command. Resolution is enough for that size screen, try to see one pixel from 30 cm far away..hmm SMS should work.

N950 is not device for everybody, but for somebody it is the only device good enough for every day use to carry and some of them have money and some of them doesn't want pay with user information everyday.

That was my point exactly. Like every other device it can fetch whatever price not because of how much it is worth as a phone in general, but what value it has for the user/collector!
