46, and in the race between bald and grey, bald is winning by a landslide.

Forget the walkie-talkies mentioned earlier...I still have my first cellphone, a Motorola "brick" phone, with the 4 hour standby and 45 minutes talk time. Airtime was $1.00 per minute....

I'm 16. The first computer i used was (outdated at the time) Tandy. It had a Shamrock "Lepercard" hard disk card. It was a whooping 30 megs with up to 7.5 megs per second (RLL controller). It has a 35 page installation guide.

I'm actually shocked to see so many under 18 on the list. I'm 25 myself. I'm so used to having to answer the 25-30 bracket.. Instead this time, I was lumped in with the 18-24 yr olds. But I feel older. My kids are turning 3 and 4 this week. :(

16 here. The first computer I used was an old 386 my Dad bought when I was ~2. Loved computers ever since, especially open source stuff \o/

I helped install the world's first computer banking system. It occupied three floors of a building that was one city block in each direction. It had a clock speed of one megahertz. (Actually, we didn't us the term "Hertz" at that time - it was one megacycle.)

One of the vacuum tube computers that I worked on was later shipped to the Smithsonian Institute.

I designed and built my own computer at the same time that Bill Gates designed and built his first computer. I sat back and said "wow - I've done it". Bill moved forward and made $47,000,000,000.

I'm a linux newbie at 62, although I was a unix user before IBM shipped their first personal computer.

I think I'd have done a poll with 5-year segments and not 10-year segments. At 35yo, I keep looking at the poll results and wondering how much of that bell curve is "late 20s" and how much at the bell curve is "early 30s".

I own a PS3, but apparently Sony's market analysis ends at 35 as well. Next year, I'll cease to exist as a gamer?

If we blanced the poll better (top end would be male life expectancy minus 18) then I'm sure we'd see a normal distribution.

I turned 54 last week. I'm a senior programmer/analyst and program in C++, VB, Java, and COBAL. My first computer was a TRS80. In college I wrote a football game in APL on an IBM Selectric terminal (no video display). I wrote a game in Commodore 128 Basic that was published in Computes Gazette magazine. It would be awesome being a teenager now with all the hi tech toys available. We built and played with shortwave radios when I was 15.

I like the rock concert dating method.

My first show was March 17, 1980. Roy Orbison opened for the Eagles.

and still, my first computer:
386, 125mb hdd, windows 3.1 (I used DOS all the time), 16 mhz.

first pda: HP jornada (1999)
