Please note that I am confused about the price: in other shops the price is about 100 $

for about the same price you can pick up the Tekkeon MP1550 and 4 rechargable AA batteries. I've been using the Tekkeon for a bit over a month and am very pleased with it's performance and ease of use. With the Tekkeon you get the added benefit of being able to use standard AA batteries if needed - which can come in really handy.

I believe that there are a lot of posts in this thread regarding the Tekkeon charger if you're interested. Looks like Amazon and Buy.com and Wireless Hut have the best prices right now.

Just a caution
I tried to buy the Tekkeon thru Amazon from antonline - the order went thru then they cancelled it.

Re: External battery pack for N8x0/770.

Bummer Antonline cancelled your order. I got my Tekkeon via Antonline on Amazon and had no problem. Perhaps they ran out and were not expecting more before the delivery deadline? For some reason the MP1550 seems kinda hard to locate from time to time. I really like the device and especially the size.

Like PCQ I use the MP1550 and a set of Eneloop AA batteries. Actually I have four sets (16 batteries) But I use mine to power my Cradlepoint CTR350 and just bought a couple extra genuine Nokia BP-5L batteries and an external charger USB for them. So pretty much I can run both devices 24/7 and never be out of juice. Plus it all fits in my waist pack. I do however keep a charger for the AA batteries in my vehicles so, as I use up a set I can pop them in and have a full charge in a couple hours.

Now what I really wish they would do for the N800 tablets is create a modified back-plate to allow for a larger battery. Sans that option then create a nice BIG external battery which attaches/mounts on the back of the tablet itself. I just don't like the idea of something hanging off the tablet if I run low on power and still need to use the thing. I don't care if it doubles the weight and makes in a few cm's thicker.

I tried to find an external charger for the BP-5L batteries, but did'nt find the external charger USB, that is a loader where you can load the BP-5L betteries outside the Nokia. Could be useful.

Q: Where did you buy it ??

Thanks, Abel.

Did buy last week a Philips SC4420: 39€ : It's brand new, not yet seen in dollars

(4420 without charger, 4430 with charger)

http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...12_GB_CONSUMER

Works excellent with a N800: Nokia phones, and photogear.

And other: See Compatability list: http://www.misc.philips.com/e-shop/_...ilityChart.pdf

Battery: Lithium polymer - 2000 mAh
Input 5V DC (I use my TomTom charger which delivers 5V)
Output DC 5.6V regulated which is important. It really charges my N800.

•Provides up to 30 hours of portable power
•LED indication
•Handy travel bag included (Yeeaaahhh A sock) :p
•Retractable cable
•Holder for interchangeable connector tips
•Powerpack is charged via the USB outlet
Built-in overcharge protection

Obviously Philips is coming with a full line, including external batteries for notebooks.

You can use any portable charger that has a usb port in it with this.
I made myself a Minty Boost and it works well. i can get about 3 hours extra from it. and when it dies i just pop in 2 more AA and off i go

Re: External battery pack for N8x0/770.

Reading the "process" page for the Minty Boost, it says it's been dimensioned to supply 100mA (and it has been tested with 250mA), isn't that a bit low for the tablet?

I bought the Philips in a Media Markt (400 shop in Urop).Don't know about the UK.

It's part of the "Philips power2go" range. I also don't see it anymore in the US / UK Amazon.

Succes, Abel.

no, the n800 doesnt charge through USB. you need a ca-100 usb->2mm cable, and a regulated battery pack with USB

Re: External battery pack for N8x0/770.

Just bought an Energizer "Energi To Go" AUDIO power pack from Big Lots for $10. It included four Lithium AA Energizer batteries plus the power pack. It also came with an iPod igo adapter which is no use for the N810. So I now need to get the tip number A105 (or possibly the older A69) and it should work. Can't find the tip shipped for less than $10 so will try Radio Shack ("You have questions - We have blank stares") tomorrow and shell out $10 + tax. Ouch!

BTW anyone want the iPod adapter for free? I'll ship it to the US. PM me. It's the A61.

All battery packs shown will naturally work with the N810 if they do with the N800 as they use the same charger.

Bought the $10 iGo A105 from Radio Shack and can confirm that it shows the unit is charging when plugged in. So for $20 I have a 4 AA battery pack for travel including 4 Lithium batteries! (Ususllay $10 for 4 on their own).

Re: External battery pack for N8x0/770.

I have a STY 8800mAh battery pack from dealextreme with USB output and an adapter to connect to the Nokia n810 (or n800). It will charge it and almost anything else via the USB or the main output.

WARNING - the Nokias will indicate "Charging" if ANY current is going in to the port. I've even looped back the USB port (host mode) to the charger and it shows "charging". I didn't know the n810 was a perpetual motion device. I do have some solar chargers and such, and they probably will maintain or extend the use time, but you need something which provides high enough current to actually charge the battery, and I don't know how that would be indicated.

I'd really like an external battery pack with a built-in USB hub and maybe a multi-function flash reader! That way I could use my N800 for extended time with a USB keyboard, USB ethernet or modem thing.

Re: External battery pack for N8x0/770.

Half off-topic.

Look at this combo 3-in-1 USB AC and Car Charger. It looks to me like it could substitute for this cable to be used with an external battery pack (like Cptnodegard does in the above post). Think so? (More specifically, Cptnodegard, do you think so?)

And if I'm not mistaken -- please tell me if I am mistaken! -- it could also work as an AC charger instead of getting a second Nokia AC adapter; and it could work as a car charger. (This all assumes that one of those adapters fits the Tablets power input socket, which I think is likely.) Do you think it would hurt the Tablet to charge with one of these? Any other downside?

In theory, yes it will work. The 2mm nokia jack is standard for nokia phones hence why its in such packages. However the Ca-100 cable contains some circuitry to regulate the voltage up to 6.5V (USB is 5) so ther emight be an issue with using another cable. I myself is waiting for a cable with a strap form china, not a ca-100 cable, if it works it should mean that one will work too

edit: some charger pron fo rthe people:

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I'll postpone buying the combo or the ca-100 cable. Once you get the new cable, please post about how it works out, and then I'll choose which way to go. Thanks again.

Trouble with Tekkeon MP1550 - thoughts?

I have two Tekkeon MP1550's and I'm experiencing problems I've not seen posted here. I was wondering if any of you that are using the MP1550 might be able to assist. I am only getting about 15-20 minutes of power before the three LED's go dark. If I pull the batteries from the MP1550 and test them they all show indication of having a full charge.

This occurs with any of 5 sets of 4xAA batteries, fully charged, ranging from 2000mAh to 2500mAh. I have three different USB Nokia charging cables - all test good for continuity and no shorts. All five 4xAA battery sets are brand new - two sets are Energizer E2 2500mAh NiMH, three sets are Duracel 2000mAh NiMH. All of these sets have been charged 2-3 times now but I don't believe they have ever been fully discharged. The MP1550 (both of them) indicate no power long before they should.

I did continue to use the N800 long after the LED's went dark on the MP1550 once. The N800 seemed to indicat that it was still charging but battery life was about what one would expect from the internal battery alone from that point forward (i.e. no additional battery life from the MP1550 once the LED's went dark).

I currently have one of the Duracel sets that the MP1550's report as discharged in a flashlight and it has been lit strong for hours, shows no signs of dimming.

The batteries themselves could be the root cause but I rather doubt that 5 new sets would all be defective. I would have thought the MP1550 to be the problem but I have two of them, both new, and they both behave this way.

Any input / suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: External battery pack for N8x0/770.

Just a guess but since nimh are about 1.2v they may quickly drop below the required threshold at which the charger is prepared to work. How about trying a set of alkalines and doing similar tests?

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll look around for a set of alkalines to test with. A few others here have reported excellent battery life using a MP1550 and NiMH AA batteries though and I'm curious as to what is different. For those of you using NiMH batteries in a MP1550 - have you experienced any similar issues? Thanks again!

Indeed. After a few months of use, my knock off CA-100 USB power adapter from DealExtreme melted while charging my N800 from a low power USB port on a notebook computer:

As far as I can tell, my N800 is fine. I don't think the meltdown damaged the notebook computer either, but I haven't actually tested the USB port yet.

I'm simply happy that my wife and I were in the room when the adapter apparently shorted out. The strong smell of melting plastic came on suddenly, and the adapter was hot when I pulled it from the notebook computer. I've often left this adapter unattended, connected to an A/C-to-USB wall wart to charge my N800 in the past, and I can't help but think the adapter may have started a fire if we hadn't been there this time.
