I have cloned my OS to SD and have been using this as my primary OS. Are you suggesting that I flash the cloned OS or the Flash OS? If I flash the main AKA "Flash" OS will I lose boot selection screen on start up? I hope my terminology is clear. Thanks,

Interesting about sudo; do you still need to set the root password somehow, or is it set to rootme as before?

(One hopes the new device setup prompts for a root password or something? Oh well, always lock your device before you leave it laying somewhere, anyway...)

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

Hey, after installing my backup and going into "Connectivity settings", the device locks up. It happens either way through control panel or the drop-down on the wifi applet.

Anyone else have this problem? Or know how I can reset the connectivity items without reflashing?

Thanks.

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

Ookay, question: Wasn't that telepathy-haze stuff going to be in Diablo?
I can't find it in the application manager (I have removed the various beta repositories I had when running Chinook). Is there a particular repository I should add to get this stuff, or should I just be patient?

Also, I get an error when trying to install Sametime Support, that packages needed for installation are missing:
flash-and-reboot (=3)
initfs-flasher (= 0.95.16-200823maemo2)
kernel-diablo-flasher (=2.6.21-200823maemo3)
gstreamer0.10-plugins-extra (>= 0.10.6-0osso22-1)
libmeanwhile1 (>= 1.0.0)

Can anyone else confim that, or is it just me?

Is it possible to someway use sudo?
what is the password?

i am just a beginner and i know it...

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

If you find problems please file them at http://bugs.maemo.org

While writing this there have been five bugs submitted after the release, and actually most problems raised here are still not listed there.

You can also help commenting on bugs, confirming, completing information, triaging duplicates... Sometimes bug handling is even funnier than forujms and mailing lists. ;)

Thank you!

Hey, the new packages show ipv6 support. That'll be nice in the coming years.

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

Downloaded, flashed, and got running in about 10 minutes. So far everything is working well (although Canola won't re-install - I haven't tried too hard yet).

Running the Map program was a revelation - on first run, I got a GPS lock on my position in about 90 seconds. After quitting and restarting Map, I got a lock in under 25s. All while indoors, sitting under a ceiling fan (warm day in Winnipeg). Very nice work!

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

Thats it! i'll flash back to chinook!

Picklesworth 2008-06-24 18:18

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

Meizirkki: Flashing basically restored your device to its factory condition, so you need to restore the backup you ran before flashing. For things like a dual boot setup and sudo, you'll need to follow that guide again. Going back to Chinook will not solve that, and in fact would make it worse since the need to upgrade would eventually pop up again as Diablo users happily enjoy the ability to perform major upgrades without reflashing.

(Although I should point out that sudo for "user" is disabled out of the box on OS2008, with a message appearing to say that it would break your device).

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

So far so good. Downloading and flashing was a breeze, restoring apps and settings from my backup went flawlessly. Omwheater is working again, as well as canola2. I'm really pleased so far.

Once again... i am sorry that i am here wasting your time and i am not going to flsh back to chinook. Thanks for all your help

how to restore "old things"

Picklesworth 2008-06-24 18:34

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

No problem, Meizirkki :)

Go to Settings -> Backup / Restore in the menu. Of course, given that I'm telling you where to go, there's a good chance nothing is there to restore. Still, can't hurt to know for next time!

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

there is nothing to backup...

i dont have wifi and i used maemo-pan in chinook, is there any "command line text editors" already installed, that i can edit pan-control file?

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

If you did not know about restore you probably did not do a backup, they are not automatic.

Just add the chinook repos and have fun with Diablo.

I can't see any improvement in GPS lock-on times, it's sat on my windowsill for five minutes now and still no lock-on. I'm not going outside as it's raining! :-)

Someone claimed Diablo's GPS uses mobile phone masts for fast eGPS lock-ons, is this the case and if so does it require a connection to a mobile phone?

It figures: on my original N810, I can't use the ssu update because it says I need to update libglade and libncurses, but I get errors trying to do so. Great. Maybe I'll just reflash that one from scratch...

Interestingly, on the N810w I'm testing, no update even shows. Odd.

Hmmm.. you seriously wonder that?

Maybe you need to pay more attention to the resources you have access... the answer is there... :p

Someone asked about command line editors. vi is available, and you should learn it, it's fun.

I received an email that said ssu SHOULD work if I let the tablet stay connected to the internet for 24 hours... that an alert would show. Tablet has been connected over 30 hours and no update...

Erm... why isn't that included with the firmware update?

I don't think many people are going to notice it if it's something optional tucked away in the application manager.

OK... did it clearly state that it will work for 810w (RX-48)? As long as I know only RX-34 and RX-44 variants of Diablo are published. The RX-48 variant is coming later at later date.

Go to the application manager and edit the catalogues.
If distribution it's blank, then add chinook.

Thanks for the post. Make me feel a tart better to know if I go to the corner and cry, somebody is in the same boat and probably cry harder .

Just updated Skype to [10014/1.7.113.22.2]. Worked just like before did not notice any difference. Video call? Have not try yet. Anybody?

With so many programes have problem, I looked at the title of this thread, it should say "Diablo Released - Say goodbye to ...." Qgil is reading, got to have some respect :)

Given that the email came from the test program, and was specific to n810w... well...

Re: Diablo Released - Say Goodbye to Firmware Flashing

My personal experience is very positive so far. I had to use apt-get -f install + apt-get just with one app that did not wanted to install: ls-colors (it is a whole new terminal with it).

I did not used the backup function, so my system is still pretty clean.I had 0 issues so far with modes (IMAP with gmail, but just one email sent). Also I do not understand why libpurple and haze plugins were not shipped with this version of RTCOMM. At this time they should be quite solid.Does anyone knows if iLBC codec is finally working?

The system is snappy, and youtube is working very well (also in full screen mode).

Have fun with Leopard...hops, Vista... no, I mean Diablo!

Heyda!
