True, but you could always open up fring when you open up dialcentral to make calls. And leave the built in client handle incoming calls.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Heads up, I just pushed 1.0.4 out to extras-devel.

I made some decent sized changes. I would really like this tested, especially by people who feel comfortable running dialcentral from the command line with python2.5 so they can give logs for when errors occur.

Thanks

EDIT: BROKEN, new package being prepped. *sigh* The One time I dont do a "smoke test" before announcing

Changelog?

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I went ahead and updated. Now it is not working. When I open DC it says :
'module' object has no attribute 'abspath'
I don't have python 2.5 installed. is that the problem?

Edit: I installed python 2.5 (I think, which one -circuits, -cherrypy3, -brisa). DC still won't work. so I reinstalled it...problem persists. Help.

Fun story. A guy went on a vacation at work recently. Before he left he submitted something to the trunk that broke the build.

Normally I do a quick "smoke test" of the extras-devel package before mentioning it. I was in a hurry to leave, so I posted on here before anything was built. The buy you see is one that I thought I had already fixed.

I knew I should have waited. I was just to anxious to see what updates you had done. I love this app. I use it constantly day and night. mostly using the SMS part of GV. Am I up the creek for a while?

1.0.4-1 is fixed from that problem. A part of one of the new features isn't working as well as I wanted. I'm waiting for 1.0.4-2 to be available for me to see how things work

It isn't strange that people are using an app on a Linux handheld to do instant messaging... It is weird that the app in question is sending the instant messages by screen-scraping a website, which then sends the messages via cellular voice networks...

I hope SMS just goes away soon. After all, soon everyone will have the Internet on their handhelds, won't they all just use Internet-based IM services...?

Sorry, off-topic, I know, I just find this whole Dialcentral-Google Voice-SMS thing really strange... like using your tablet to type up a message which is then printed out and sent via carrier pigeon....

Some of us have a cellular data plan and not a cell. What's the point in having a mobile phone, if you have a mifi portable hotspot, and a tablet with voip?

icbolsh 2009-08-16 09:21

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

if you have GV, you have SMS too.
The mifi looks awesome. How much is your data plan with it. I would love to get rid of my cell. Most everywhere I go has wifi and I use my tablet for almost everything, but I still need my cell for the travel in between. A mifi would be perfect.

Has anyone found a way to change the notifications from 0 minutes? No matter what, it resorts to zero minutes. I suppose I can edit the config file myself. What's a good interval to set that respects battery life? How about adding some 'intelligence' to the SMS notification? After a SMS is sent, it should check every minute (or faster?) for a few minutes for new SMS messages, since statistically a reply SMS is due back shortly after one is sent.

Persistent about that changelog huh? Man, its almost as if you expect some magical feature to be in it

* "Back" button and tabs now visually indicate when they've entered a "hold" state
* Fixed the duplicate title on Maemo
* Removing some device connection observer code due to high bug to low benefit ratio
* Notification support
* Fixed a bug from 1.0.3 where once you refreshed a tab by holding on it, every tab would then be forced to refresh

I just tested 1.0.4-2 and it seems to launch for me. Could you run it form the command line and let me know what its doing?

Yes changing how often notifications occur is a known issue (unfortunately I didn't have a chance to post it about 1.0.4-2 until you had already tried it, sorry). Changing the notification automatically makes it 0. The only way to fix it is to modify "~/.dialcentral/settings.ini".

I do have to say I am impressed at how quickly someone brought up one of the features they would want me to add which was one of the reasons I was trying to avoid adding SMS notification support :) Its a messy situation adding "intelligence" to an app especially since it is hard for the app to judge towards its intended audience. My best recommendation is if you are expecting a SMS back is to do a manual refresh by holding down the "Messages" tab.

Depends on where you are. Obviously if you're in the US, you will probably get screwed into some kind of contract and locked hardware. I pay 10€/month, data only, no contract.

There is a CDMA version (often locked I believe), and a GSM version of the Mifi. If you get the GSM mifi from http://www.mobilx.hu/en/novatel-wire...e-hotspot.html, it is unlocked. From there, you can either get a data plan added on to your voice plan, or you can get a pay as you go plan. In the states, I would still buy the european (GSM) version, to get freedom of choice on carriers and worldwide coverage.

If you add a data plan to an existing voice plan, I suspect that means you will have to clone your sim chip in order to continue using your sim chip in a phone.

!!! That's pretty freakin' magical IMO. I had a weird feeling it was going to be finally included. Now that I have GV-notifier hacked all to **** just how I like it, I suppose I'm ready to install this and get started on customizing to my liking.

Did you use addisjon's code? I guess I'll have to open 'er up and find out.

If there's specific things you'd like me to test, just let me know. I'm a constant user of Dialcentral and pretty comfortable mucking around.

DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.nokia.alarmd was not provided by any .service files

This happened when I changed the line in settings.ini under [alarm] called recurrence to 6 instead of 0.

...probably because there's no such .service file as 'com.nokia.alarmd.service in /usr/share/dbus-1/services/

I'd send you a PM and try and help, but you have it disabled in your Maemo.org prefs. I'd love to try, but I don't want to clutter this thread. Re-enable PMS and I'll do my best to be an IT for ya :)

Version: 1.0.4-2
Depends: python2.5, python2.5-gtk2, python2.5-xml

Using dpkg or apt-get or the App Manager, you wouldn't be able to install Dialcentral unless you had the dependencies met.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I hate to bring up such a small idea / "want" when it appears that DialCentral is having bigger issues at the moment, but, I guess it's worth mentioning for future released anyway :)

One thing I've wanted since I've started using DC is that when you view the messages, just like in the GV SMS inbox, it shows the whole chat history, is there any way to possibly show on message at a time in descending order by time, much like how a phone would do it? Or when I go to open up a message from the chat window it shows say the last 2-3, instead of all of them? I'd much prefer just the most recent message honestly. And when I reply, just show the most recent message with the empty space below for the reply?

Again, hate to bring it up when DC is getting better additions at the moment (notifications, etc), but hey, it's an idea! :P

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

This latest version, 1.0.4-2, is a sure-fire way to destroy everything dialcentral and gv-notifier on your system. GV-notifier won't even run now.

Off to restore a backup. This is just too crazy for me.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Gogol I wish I would have seen that earlier *sigh* I saw all this chat about 1.0.4-2 and I got excited seeing "Notification support."

How long do I have until everything is broken for good? :( Too late already? What I mean by that is can I uninstall 1.0.4-2 and reinstall 1.0.3?

gogol 2009-08-17 01:47

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

fatboyxpc, I tried uninstall/reinstalling and gv-notifier still didn't work for me. *sigh* I wish I were a bit smarter. The only important difference I note between the flash boot (which works) and the other boot which doesn't, is that alarmd daemon is not being started at boot anymore. However, I can't tell where it is finding the 'com.nokia.alarmd' dbus service on the working install. It just makes no sense.

epage, I'll leave the broken install to test stuff out for you, hope you come back around soon. I'll be in freenode #maemo when you do.
