Just curious if I should bother trying this myself.

Too slow i`m afraid... it feels like 33% of the normal playing speed.

Check Fallout 1 on DOSBox-0.73 (N900) for more details.

Re: Games that should be ported to maemo

I've successfully compiled RocksNDiamonds in Scratchbox and got it to run on the N900. However it's neither the correct screen resolution, nor capable of running full screen currently. It also doesn't want to accept keyboard input and is thus unplayable. But, hey, it's a start!

Has anyone came across Microsoft MechCommander 2 Shared Source? Though I've never seen any attempts to port it to Linux.

I Would like to ask you for games such as Rollercoaster Tycoon , Diablo II and UrbanTerror (Not the QIIIArena mod, but version 4.1, standalone open source version)

Is it possible ?

Thx ;)

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

A few suggestions that would be cool with source available.

- UFO: Alien Invasion - an original 3D game in the spirit of the old UFO/X-COM games
- UFO2000 - an open source game engine for the old X-COM: Ufo Defense / UFO: Enemy Unknown game
- FreeDink - a hack'n'slash adventure released for free with source
- Chaos Strikes Back - an engine for the Dungeon Master games
- Dune 2 - a game engine for Dune 2

What about Heroes of Might and Magic 3?

Or for that matter, the fan-made remake-ugrade to that same game Heroes of Might and Magic 3: In the Wake of Gods? It must have the source available if there is a fan-remake of the game, right?

And of course, this game with acceleometer control would be outrageous! Magic Carpet
What a good time that game was, and it didn't even have 3D rendering.

We're on the same wavelength. :) I looked around to see what options there are for that. I think it works in dosbox, but that's not an ideal solution. The most complete clone i found is java-based. I considered doing a more modern clone using Ogre3D but that's a much more major project than i have time for. There's a partly done version like that already, but i didn't mark the page and that must have been for a good reason (probably not GPL license or something).

IMO, Magic Carpet and Descent were the most amazing games of the early WWW days. I still remember how slow the demo download was on the modem. :D

That would be great, unfortunately EA has the license for it, so the only way we are going to see it is through the ovi store (not that it bothers me)

Actually I'm trying to get VCMI to work on N900. However I lack skills in C++ Boost thread handling and the two threads in question fail to communicate - one of them fills an event queue, while the other fails to find anything in it - I wonder if they share the same memory space or maybe a Boost port problem. Other than that the game starts and gets through to the main screen. If anyone wants to step up and fix the thread handling - be welcome... :)

The interface will also require fixing but I can handle that.

Grim Fandango. Although the danger is that the sheer prospect of playing it on the N900 would excite me so much, that I'd probably explode.

Wow, HOMM3 would really be a great addition to the games we have :) didn't know there was an engine, I used to play the Linux version ported by Loki games.

I'm simply amazed by you guys (maemo community) you are so skilled and devoted into making all these great apps and games. Personally I lack the knowledge to contribute to these projects but I really enjoy observing!

+1 for Grim Fandango. Greatest game ever :)

I'd also happily burst if Beyond Good and Evil were ported, although I'm not sure how one would set up controls for that game..

Hmm is it possilbe to port the old NeverWinter Knights to the N900?
Yesterday evening I looked on the NWN Box and checked the Hardware requirements. I would say it must be possilbe to play on N900.

It must be only ported to the maemo5 OS. I think.

slux 2010-01-16 00:02

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

Things like NWN or BGE are extremely unlikely. There is very litte precedent of commercial game companies going back and porting their old releases on mobile phones (if you have examples of that happening, do tell). With someone like LGP, odds are slightly better but most likely ports are going to be things that are open source and not 3d accelerated. The open source part is extremely important and porting to the n900's variety of opengl is apparently not trivial.

Dungeon Kepper on the N900

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Keeper

Is there any chance someone would be able to port this game? I used to love playing it as a kid. I know they've already ported Theme Hospital which is made by the same people.

Anybody tried Theme Hospital with dosbox or a psx emulator? ^^

oldpmaguy 2010-01-17 16:27

Re: Dungeon Kepper on the N900

Yes, that's a great idea especially because it wasn't an "action oriented" game, rather it was lots of God-like management with clicks, it would be perfect for the touchscreen, and the graphics were always a joy to watch!

Why don't you add it into the "PC game ports" thread here?
