NokiaUSA does not seem to know about the release. Online chat (Davis) said end of the month. When I checked the status of my order on the phone they said middle of the month and anytime next week. They no longer have a hold on my credit card. No charge either. But they confirm my order is not canceled.

Well something changed. I canceled my order with them weeks ago. My order kept saying processing. I started to call yesterday to make double sure it was canceled. I didn't want it interfering with my Newegg order. A few minutes ago i checked again and it finally says canceled.

Hey Peter, I just wanted to get a chance to really thank you. I watched every youtube video and read every online article since early September and the N900 is mind-blowing, futuristic. Exactly what i was waiting for. You yourself did a great job at many events presenting the device, I think you really care about your job, which is nice to see. I'm looking forward to the upcoming firmware update, Maemo Select and Ovi Store for the N900. I hope there will be enough units here in Prague, so i can get one at the store asap (the device will be sold in Czech Rep. exclusively only at Nokia). Cheers!

I don't think shops have had time enough to update their estimates, so I'd take their dates with a pinch of salt. Also, today shipping to distributors started, that means it could be a couple of days before they get them and then some more days till they reach the shops... The devices might still be 2 weeks away from our hands. Anyone with actual knowledge on these things who could give a better guesstimate?

When I try to preorder through NokiaUSA I get this error message "The user does not have the authority to run this command "OrderItemAdd".

According to Nokia's blog:

When the N900 launches it’ll be compatible with most networks, although it won’t initially be available on new 3G SIM cards from 3 in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria – a software update is in the pipeline and is slated to become available before the end of the year.

according to the other shipping thread, newegg was unawares of the nokia announcement. So I would not worry about the 30th date on there.

Amazon currently have the same date - 30th Nov.

However, given that when the due date was 26th Oct, that was the date they were expecting to dispatch, I thik it's unlikely that they'll be far behind nokia themselves, regardless of what MPD say.

And they're usually very slow updating the website. I have often received items before they were apparently released according t the website (and before the dispatch email arrived).

It was annoying enough with any news from Nokia regarding the n900 being a ghost after Peter announced the delay. Especially since they then had all that time to produce even more hardware units (unless there was a manufacturer problem).

Not sure what you mean here. I looked at Newegg around 2:00 and it was still showing 11/14. Then it was posted here it had changed. I would think the change is directly related to their Nokia shipment expectations.

No, I think they postponed the release date because of some major and minor bug fixes that needed to be done and on top of that marketing could also be the delayed.

Eh it depends on how Nokia does it. Like I said in the other thread, they can either do..

1) ship a bunch of units to one retailer at a time

2) ship a % of units to each retailer, so the bigger retailers and Nokia get the bigger %s while smaller retailers get a smaller % for each shipment.
