sorry can someone tell me the best way now to turn this phone on from new so you do not get the mic problem
i keep reading turn on phone before charge and then i have also read charge before turn on, i am lost to what you need to do to stop the mic from going wrong

please can some reply and give the right steps to stop this problem

I dunno what other people did. But I connected my phone to the wall socket and then turned it on..I haven't experienced any issues.

It does actually say in the manual that it is partially charged for you out of the box..

Odds are the way you turn on the phone makes no impact.

What's been suggested is that if you plug the phone into the mains and let it charge before it turning it on you might avoid it.

So from the 6 posted their IMEI I've trimmed down their Serial Number, you guys might want to remove your IMEI number now.

FYI those want to find out the serial number,

The IMEI format is as follow (example only): 35007752-323751-3
The bit in bold is the N900's unique serial number.

First 8 digits = Type Allocation Code (device name + region etc.)
Last digit = Check Digit

this morning I tested my mic with recorder. (my 3 sim doesn't appear to work yet so haven't made any calls) i got no sound recorded and had brief panic this was some big problem.
Then I rebooted and tried again...and it recorded fine.

I'm from the Netherlands and having problems with the mic.
The Serial number of my N900 is 356938030126990
There are more users in the Netherlands who have the mic problems with there pre-ordered N900

We have to send it back to a company names Cycleon and we wil receive a new N900 upon arrival of the returned N900

Open box plug in charger 10 mins turn on phone ,set it up made a call 1hr later no mic.

How many of the people with mic problems, have rebooted and tried again? I've not tried making a call yet, but recorder worked for me, but only after I rebooted.

Also from The Netherlands and mic was working fine (recording and making telephone calls).

Today it happened three times that when I received a call the caller didn't hear me. After a reboot the mic was working again, so I think these mic problems can be in some way software related.

It was the first time I did a manual reboot since last monday when I received the phone. (I did pre-order.)

Openend the box, put the battery inside the N900 doing the setup......overnight charged the battery and turned the n900 on....tried to make a call without the mic....

Probably a silly suggestion, Nuknuk, but you have tried a cold reboot? Given that someone above said rebooting helped, it might be worth a throw. (First time I'd seen that). Switch off, take the battery out and wait, then replace and restart. Very, very longshort, but worth trying everything before it goes back.

Yes tried this aswell might hook it up to the national grid to boost it up a bit,and very not happy with nokia notcare centre.

Just wanted to say I received my phone last night and made my first call and was scared silly that the mic wouldn't work.

I'm happy to say that it did, but my heart goes out to all those who have waited so long and been through all the ups and downs with delays for the device not work propertly.

Lifes a biarch sometimes...hang in there.

just had my phone, works no problems as a phone it work good for me as i think any phone works
its very fast and my screen works fast when i am using the menus and the net (it moves like the iphone, and not like a n97)

i think is the best from coming from my n97, that a load of crap if you load the facebook app on start up and the screen is no way a good a this phone


i think if anyone is having any problem they got a bad phone and need to get a new one, there are many iphones that go back because there are hardware problems

damn feel bad for the people with mic problem!

All i can say is taking any anger out at nokia when speaking to them to replace it won't do you any favours, being nice about it, but getting your point accross however may see you receive something in compensation, after all you have pre-ordered a long time ago, been faithful etc

Does anyone know if there's a debug option on alsaped? Or a way from the cli to simulate the different audio profiles?

Glad that some people have working phones. I've tried all sorts and nothing has worked, so at the moment I've resigned to using a bluetooth headset with the device for now (will return after a good play).

Thank God! No mic problem!
Turned on, call other mobile number = OK. Then plug to charge for the first time, attempted call while charging = OK. Voice quality good in both.

What other defects should I be testing for?
What's that memory issue?

There seems to be big problem with mail for exchange 2003 which evidently is unsupported and even exchange 2007 has folder issues. Can you test these?

Check the TV out as well. I'd suggest checking you can get a GPS lock too.

Cool. I will check these while I get back from a meeting in an hour.
Keep them coming.

My batch is the same batch as those with mic + tv out defects.
Trying to narrow down if it got something to do with first charge.

At the moment all I can say is

DO NOT CHARGE FIRST THEN TURN ON YOUR N900!

and use N97's charger if possible
i have a feeling these N900's adapters are screwed

Might also want to check your screen to see if there's any visual defects (like dents. One poster here said theirs had dents in the screen).
