Hi,

You've tried the faulty 0.6.7-2 build, please try the following:

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...inale/0.6.7-3/

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

No, I have -3.

jrocha 2011-04-14 13:42

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

You can either download the .deb from the page I've posted or update your catalogs: Open AppManager, Menu > Catalogs > Open one of them and click save

then it should show up.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

I meant I already use -3 and not -2.

jrocha 2011-04-14 13:59

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Hmm, are you sure. I've installed it without problems and have the confirmation from other people that it works.

casketizer 2011-04-14 14:05

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

I am absolutely sure it is -3.
It installs and runs ok.
I can update shows/series.
All previously downloaded show/season images are gone.
No images are downloaded.
The blue arrow down image is displayed but no images ever show up.

jrocha 2011-04-14 14:11

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Ah ok, sorry, I understood it would not install...

I think the images are not downloaded due to some error in the server but I'd have to take a better look.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

I'm also using 0.6.7-3 as offered by application manager. In logfile I saw that entry again saying it would delete folder /home/user/.local/seriesfinal and that's what it did. Folder was gone after update. After first call of app it was created again but then empty of course. Image downloading didn't work and after closing app I restored the backup and restarted app. Images showed up correctly then. So at least they are found again when restoring backed up images.

So once again the advice: store image data to MyDocs so any user can easily do a backup of these files. And remove that entry in uninstall script that deletes the images folder as this is completely unnecessary. Even if it's meant to only get triggered when uninstalling the app and not when upgrading you a) delete user's data which is no good behaviour and b) you see that it still gets triggered while upgrading for what reason ever. Please do us a favour and fix that point!

Besides that I'd be glad to see some speed improvements when loading app but that's not so important to me as I'm starting it only once in a while and then do a whole bunch of updates in one go. So I can easily wait a minute til it's started.

Nevertheless: good work!

I am also waiting around a minute untill it is usable. I purged and reinstalled it but startuptime stays above one minute.

my -3 starts up in 7 seconds..

edit: non modified clock speed btw.

Unable to download any images since latest update. Is it a server side problem?

Hi there,
Would it be possible to implement a feature that would export your list as a text document? Like for exemple if I have a lot of shows and would like to export them in order to send them over to a friend so that he can see it (on a windows machine). Could be a simple txt file

Thanks in advance!

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

You can check the file at /home/user/.osso/seriesfinale/series.db

Hi IsaacDFP,

We (me and Juan, the other SF's author) have some nice ideas to make SF social but as you might imagine, we work on it in our personal time which is very limited, so, more advanced features tend to get delayed...

Of course, fully understandable. I'll still take an open-source community over a corporation annnyyy daaayyy :P
Just an fyi, it wasn't meant to be a request, more like a suggestion :)

Any news about image loading? It still don't work for me so I guess sthg has changed in tvdb api.

One thing I just realised some days ago: right after starting when the list of shows gets displayed the sorting is unordered, then it gets sorted by name. Do I get that right you are sorting "manually" within the app? I guess it could be faster if you'd let sqlite do that. Gepping the data with a select statement with an "order by" clause could probably be way faster. Just as a hint :)

GrimmReaperNL 2011-04-29 20:36

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

is there a way to sort the season in reverse? so the 'newest' season at the top and the 'oldest' season at the bottom?
i know there is a way to sort the episodes from a-z or z-a but not the seasons.

Yes, there is. It works again, through pure magic. Come to think of it, I have reverted to a known good version and they were still broken, and now they work with no modifications to software, I'm gonna guess server-side issues (302).

And while I'm still here: Now that images are no longer a priority, could you fix the issue where shows with no date get "Jan 1" as default? It makes several shows very odd. Futurama is in hiatus right now with no date on the first episode of S7, but SF displays several episodes as available and unseen, because release date is "Jan 1" instead of TBD (none).

Mighty useful app and surprisingly bug-free (I don't watch that many shows to care about sorting).

Oh, one suggestion: I lost my data several times via reflash and, as a user, painfully know this: The app needs a button for "mark everything as read". it's way easier to un-mark unseen 4 episodes than to re-mark Simpsons as read. No rush though, I have Backup Menu now.

Glad to hear that. Didn't try it the last few days but will give it a try again today. :)

At least for seasons there is a button to mark / unmark all episodes. And when reflashing, you should be able to at least restore the database with the entries, even if the images might be lost. (Or is the database lost too??? Can't remember right now...)

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Yes, but Simpsons has 22 seasons. Click-click-click. And, I know I can restore, it's just not everyone has a decent backup. At the very least, adding a show that has already been watched is hard work.

Well, it's not like it makes the app any less great.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Images are back again! It's so great seeing those placeholders disappear :D

Regarding backup: it'd be wise do regularly backup the system - using osso-backup as well as doing manual backup via usb or network. N900 can break very quick with no warning, then it's too late to think about taking a last backup. I learned it the hard way last autumn and now my backups are at most two days old.

Hi, I was wondering if you had had any luck with that? Since the 0.6.7-3 version arrived in Extras, the startup time for me is about 50 seconds. With the previous Extras version (0.6.5-1) it was only 5 or 10 seconds. I have 61 shows in my list.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

17 shows, about 5 seconds start. Doesn't seem linear.

Did you do a full update? Maybe a show is left hanging, or missing, or something.

Hi guys,

There is a new version of SeriesFinale in case you haven't noticed:

http://www.joaquimrocha.com/2011/07/...of-the-clones/

Give it a try to check if it improves the startup time a bit.

Also, everything seems to work, don't forget to vote so it gets into extras:

Just wanted to thank you for this great app. SeriesFinale is one of the most frequently used applications on my N900. The startup time has been the one issue that was really bugging me and it has now improved significantly with this new version. It could of course always be faster. but as it is, I find it quite serviceable now.

I also like the "yesterday / today" addition instead of the episode date. A small change that manages to improve usability a lot.

Thanks again.

As jrocha mentioned in his blog, I have started a port to N9(50) Harmattan.

A first video showing it on a N950 can be found here:

Great release!

Faster startup and finally the list of series is correctly ordered.

Thanks

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

I'm having a problem with SeriesFinale and hope that someone can help. When trying to update the shows, I either lost my WiFi-Connection or it became very weak (moving between rooms). SF tried to download nevertheless but never came to a stop, as if stuck in a loop.

Usually when something like this happens, I just close the app as I did this time. Reopening then won't do any good as I always get the message telling me to wait for the previous session of SF to finish (btw, is this a bug, that closing the app will in fact not stop the download session?). The regular way to proceed (at least in the past) was by using brute force, power down the device and then start again. This would usually allow me to start SF and the app would work in a normal way again.

This time, however, afer starting SF none of my shows were being shown. Trying the "seach shows" option now always results in the app crashing (or rather becoming totally unresponsive). Trying the "add shows manually" does not result in a crash, but no update is possible as SF is constantly telling me to make sure that an internet connection is available (IT IS) so SF gets stuck in the trying-to-download loop again.

Uninstalling and then Reinstalling the app did nothing, still the same problem as described above.

Can anyone please help?!

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

jrocha, can you promote seriesfinale 0.6.9 for Maemo 5 from extras-testing to extras? I think it now has the required number of votes.

0.6.9 fixes a bug where it wouldn't save the database if the user only used the menu to mark episodes as read rather than the tickboxes in the list view. For months I was wondering why sometimes the database was saved and sometimes not!

Hi pelago,

I've just promoted it. Somehow I hadn't realized it had the required number of approval/time for the promotion.

Thanks for letting me know about this.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Hi, I have a feature request.

Could it be possible to filter in the main screen to show only non finished series? This way I can see with just a glance what series have missing episodes.

That filtering would also be useful when updating the list of series, so you would need to check updates only for unfinished series (faster).

Thanks.

Greetings!
I would like to know to anybody knew of any progress for the Harmattan port? There are still a few annoying bugs needing attention and hasn't been looked at for a few months :(
Also tried posting on the MeeGo Forums but no answer this year so far

Having been a happy user of the stable version (0.6.9-1)
I decided to test out the latest testing version (0.6.10-1)
To my suprise it will not open.

Terminal says...
Code:

~ $ /usr/bin/seriesfinale
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/seriesfinale", line 30, in <module>
    from SeriesFinale.gui import MainWindow
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/SeriesFinale/gui.py", line 36, in <module>
    from lib.portrait import FremantleRotation
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/SeriesFinale/lib/portrait.py", line 24, in <module>
    import osso
ImportError: No module named osso

Does this happen to anybody else or just me.
