Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
first error I get is carman-ui dependency
Then when I try to install that I get python2.5-rtree dependency issues. I didn't go there because I have most of python libraries and don't want to do a bunch of non optified stuff if I can help it. Are you guys seeing these dep errors as well? |

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Got it loaded up. I don't have an OBD device, but it looks pretty nice. Got the GPS working fine by editing the conf file pointed out earlier.
Only thing I noticed, and it was already mentioned, is that the gps doesn't shut down after closing Carman and the bluetooth stays enabled. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Great port but eats a lot of rootfs (7MB)
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Even after reboot carman wont connect to my obd2.
It says connecting, leds flashing and then disconnects. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I installed it yesterday, but it keeps saying something like "Error: no plugins found."
So the program boots, and goes to the main menu, but there i get the error, and none of the buttons are working. Only the one to exit the app. I'm eager to get this working as I have a bluetooth OBD-key. |

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Hello
I have just installed carman on my N900. I didn't find any problems with it either installing it or connecting it with my OBD2 it seems to be working fine. I will try to connect the GPS tomorrow. (probably an external bt gps) and check if it works. I will keep you posted =) |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
in the GPS status (configure GPS) I cannot see either the internal or the external GPS device.
|
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Got this installed and working, had to pair my N900 with my OBD-II first and then Carman could connect.
I haven't managed to get the speed alert to actually alert me when I go over the maximum set speed. Any Ideas? Also, my N900 gets confused with the internal GPS status after I close Carman. Any else getting this? |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I managed to connect the external GPS with carman and it's working.

I did an Apt-get install Carman using root.. came back to say that carman: Depends: Carman-ui (>= 0.7-pre-alpha-1-1) but is not going to be installed. When you apt-get install carman-ui, says Depends: python2.5-efi-core (>= 0.9.9.050+svn38845-maemo1) but is not going to be installed. Also Depends: hildon-inf-ecore but is not going to be installed |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Drove 1000km with N900 CarMan showing gauges over the weekend, seemed to work fine. Had to drive and had the family with me so didn't play with it too much while driving.
N900's small screen would benefit from a clearer theme, those red-on-red "LED" digits and gauge labels are too difficult to see if the device is on the dashboard or in a phone holder. Also a portrait mode would be nice as many users have a vertical phone holder on their dashboards if also other family members need to attach phones. GPS did actually work fine after reboot, it's just not listed in the list of found GPS (bluetooth actually) devices. A couple of times the OBD device wasn't connected at the first try but worked fine after found. Looks very good, as far as I could see it works just like with N8x0. Like most, using the DealExtreme adapter, works fine and should arrive in a couple of weeks to your local post office, shipping free. The case can be cut open with a sharp knife, after that the plug was maybe 12mm lower and fitted nicely under the fusebox cover of my car. Not that it would be recommended to leave a device that can be used to wirelessly control your car attached all the time:) |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
did manage to get it installed, did disabel all of the acauntn's exept extras-devel :) but did not get the gauge showing data . are going to try it in another car later

Another strange thing, when I exit Carman my cpu seems locked at max mhz (700 in my case). Grtx |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I have the same thing.
After I have used Carman, battery drains quite fast (locked cpu eating all power?) I don't use GPS for now, because after Carman use had to reboot my N900 to lose GPS locking. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
How did you edit , that gps will use the internal?
Can you do this on the phone or with a computer? |

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I just noticed a missing feature on carman. My car runs on E85 and now and again the error P0170 appears. (Too Lean). Which result in too little fuel, adjustment of the E85 Kit resolves the issue.
You can check engine codes on Carman and get description but I cannot find any "clear codes" section after fixing the problem I had to use my old phone and it software to reset it. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Woohoo.. finally got it installed last night. Had to disable every other Repo on my list and enable only Extras-Devel. Installed fine thereafter. Seems like a conflict with an older version on another repo maybe?

Any way you slice it, it's a darn sight better than the old standard of six to eight weeks for mail order within the continental U.S. The process of converting boxtops into toys was slow magic and a terrible thing to do to your average, impatient child, no doubt about it. |

even 25 days is no big deal.
a friend of mine ordered something from them which was in stock and one month later they told him it's out of stock. their website still writes in stock and it's 2 months after the purchase. |

Now you will play :D To be honest, an older version of carman for nokia 770 supported the viewing of many car sensors which I cannot find on this version. I was able to see even the fuel percentage. |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Well they still working on the app and updating it so maybe that feature will come in a later update?

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I just got my dongle from dealxtreme. The N900 finds it and all but disconnects from it after a few seconds. Does the dongle remain connected for you all?
I saw someone talking about manually connecting and that working. How do you do that? The connection button in the Maemo UI bluetooth options are grayed out, and Carman can't connect when I tell it to try by manually clicking there. Update: Well seems to connect every once in a while |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
I ordered my dongle July 13th, it shipped July 15th and I got it in the mail July 26th. I tested it out the next day had a time setting it up lol. Couldn't do it at first than I figured I needed to pair it first, it picked up in my bluetooth settings as CAN OBDII. Wouldn't pair til I put in the passcode 0000 than it paired right on up. Went to Carman connected and tested it out a lil bit. Rev'in the engine and it worked well will test more this following week.

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
Bought one of these ODB BT adapters from ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ht_3905wt_1098 Paired up with my N810 with code 1234, carman works after adding the symbolic links from the above posts. However, I get constant disconnects if the 810 is more than a few inches from the dongle. Anyone else getting bad connectivity with bluetooth? Otherwise my 810 bluetooth works great with my other devices. Next to get it working on my N900 regards JimS |
Re: Carman for Maemo 5?
