Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Hmm I need to figure out where they store the profile so I can remove it (seeing if that fixes my location issue).
Edit: Trying the default directory Firefox usually uses. Edit: Nope no luck. Edit: Correction that is where it's located ~/.mozilla/ Now to remove it, reboot, install Fennec RC2 and hope that the location works correctly this time. |

It is saved into whichever directory you execute 'wget' from.

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
k, well i downloaded the files from the browser to documents, how do i install from xterminal if the files are there? I have the root stuff installed.
Thanks |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
And.. no such luck. No idea what's wrong. o.O
And the odd thing is, it's just fennec, everything works fine using the default browser. Edit: Well it works partially. It no longer puts me in Texas (yay!) But TMobile still doesn't work with it, not even with a different APN. Yet it works just fine in geo-location on the default browser. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
This new 1.0.0 version definitely works better than the RC! Good!
And the UI is much better than the MicroB... |

downloaded latest nightly build to docs and now i'm installing via red pill. let's see how that goes.
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
installed, but when i launch fennec, it just closes :( thoughts/help?
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
looks like it launches, there is a delay before it opens though, about 20 seconds.

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Yep it's better now but still far to slow for me.
My RAM usage goes way up when it's running. Getting better all the same. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
it is still too slow...i love firefox but i will stay with microb for now. i still found the ff browser to be too sensitive when scrolling thru the pages...it opens up 2-3 tabs mistakenly which slows down the browser even more. i really want to like it but it needs to take some weight off.

MaemoNews on Twitter said that RC2 has been released now and that it's soo much better now. I'm gonna try and download it again today.

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Firefox mobile RC2 is noticeably better, but the MicroB browser is still the leader in page load and navigation on the n900. I hope that the overall speed improves as it's a promising start. If MicroB is any indication of how fast the browsing experience can be, then maybe it's just a matter of optimizing the code? I wonder if a webkit based browser would be faster?
Anyway, I still wouldn't use mobile firefox for regular browsing as it's still quite frustratingly slow (especially with flash sites -- but that's also a problem with MicroB, as well). Looking forward to the next release candidate...:) |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
At this rate of progression I'm looking forward to version 2.0 :)
The program still feels incredibly sluggish. After installing it, I had to try three times before the program actually started... for some reason it first started to load and then just kept quitting. The "custom-skinned" user interface feels very slow compared to normal maemo applications. And worst of all, it is still really slow on sites with flash (youtube being pretty much completely unusable...). But I guess the worst thing is, I still haven't had a chance to actually cleanly quit the program. Usually I have to force it to quit after it stops responding on flash-heavy websites. Usability-wise this would be a great program, but if the final release is anything like the release candidates (pretty high probability, since these are already release candidates), there's just no way this can replace the microB browser. And where is zoom out? I keep tapping the screen like an idiot when trying to return to 100% view :) |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Got a question for everyone. For anyone using geolocation in Fennec, how many of you are on TMobile and can get it working using TMobile internet?
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Question: Where do you download MicroB browser?? I don't see it anywhere in repo

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
i downloaded it and tried it out for a few hours ... bloody slow compared to default browser.
tried to view stuff on this site http://www.davidmovie.com/ and it lagged really badly, took about 10 mins to start the streaming then paused after 20 mins and wouldnt start back up, refreshed page and i couldnt fast forward by clicking progress bar at the bottom. then used the default browser and it worked like a dream. unless there are some big improvments i aint gonna use fennec again! |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
microB is good, fast and native in all N900. both are based on mozilla engine, so what's the advantage of using fennec (assuming it's as fast as microB)?

New update is available, check it out. Seems like Firefox got over with it's speed problem.
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
but with disabled flash plugin...
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
You can enable it on about:config
Find the plugin.disable & plugin.default_plugin_disabled parameters which are set to true and set them to false(highlight and hit enter) Then restart Firefox. |

Personally I'd see reason to install it if it's about as good as the default browser, but with different strenghts and weaknesses :B

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
oh LOL (sorry ^^)
just saw the tags of this thread: "firefox rc1 sucks" :D can anybody compare the new firefox release with microb? ...and list dis/advantages :) |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
No real improvement compared to the last version. 10 seconds for a cold start. Not too slow on websites like talk.maemo.org but after using it for a while you would wish to switch back to microb.
There is overall progress but it's slow as hell. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
mhm... how about flash-abilities?
is microb still the best way to go? |

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
The worst browser i ever use in my life: FIREFOX. Yep! Might as well call it TurtleFOX...it is extremely slow. Geez..how long does it take them to make any progress? According to the pace they're heading...it'll take them at least a year to make any progress...seriously!

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
FFox mobile is POS. Port Opera as a decent alternative to microB.

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
It starts slower compared to MicroB but I cant say it is slower in browsing or scrolling any more. It is huge step compared to previous version. I had to wait up to 10 seconds after wipe before it started to scroll.
I decided play with it for a while. Will see how it feels. Maybe it will be slow again if I find out how to turn on the flash. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Wow, what an improvement!
Navigating through Firefox speed and especially page loading speed is greatly improved and is now better than in MicroB. It still has some performance problems on complex pages (Engadget), but it doesn't crash, just freezes for a few seconds. And I'm talking with flash enabled. So with an option to manually play a certain flash object in a webpage it would have been awesome (faster browsing + ad filter). Startup time is still slow, but keep in mind that MicroB's browserd daemon is always running in the background thus providing faster startup times (majority of data is already in ram). I think that Firefox should implement a similar feature. Flash (eMMC or 256MB one) is too slow for a program like that (and obviously, for MicroB too). I have also tested flash performance on YouTube and Firefox wins in this category too. Videos are smooth, flash is responsive. It's the first time that I've seen live flash video playing in dashboard's thumbnail smoothly. Overall, Firefox/Fennec 1.0 has brought great improvements and I like the developing speed. Also, I think that zooming method (with spirals/circles AND with volume hardware buttons) should be just copied from MicroB. But Firefox still needs some polishment. So I will still use MicroB for majority of browsing, but I'm happily looking forward to replace it with Firefox, hopefully with 1.0.1. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Its much faster this time. Its actually a real alternative now, in terms of responsive GUI n stuff like that. Love the weave future!

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Is there a plugin that let me use mplayer as defaultplayer on mediacontent instead of default mediaplayer?
