Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I've got two bright spots too - from the day I bought mine (Dec 2009).
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I sent mine in last week it should arrive there tomorrow. I seriously hope it doesn't take 3 weeks to get it back. Not sure how much longer I can use my old RAZR2 V8.
slaapliedje P.S. I miss it enough that I am using my old Fujitsu tablet to remind of the stylus. |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
same spots on my n900 as shown in shapeshifters picture. i have never OC.
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I have two bright spots on my screen too, and they were there after about 2 months of owning the phone - only really visible on a white screen.... I can live with it though, it's not often I sit staring at a pure white screen unless something is loading on MicroB.....
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
i have those ****ing spots too!
and always on pixels <.< i've had em since a while will they complain if i didnt send it earlier? |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
No white spots on my 7 month old N900. Not much physical stress on the device (from jean pocket etc).
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Got one white streak, about 1CM long, in the top right hand corner; it is very noticable when using xterm, or anything with a white background.
Might pop into Nokia tomorrow and get their opinion. |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I started another thread about this, because I had sent mine off for a repair and it doesn't look like they did anything except remove my screen protector and flash my phone to default settings.
Still same few scratches on the outside screen, and the white spots are in the same relative space as before. Now when I first booted it up, it didn't look like they were there, but maybe they were. Or maybe after less than a day of use they came back. Anyone else have an experience of sending your phone off to Nokia, having it be there for less than a day, and having it sent back without actually being fixed? I thought that if they had decided the warranty didn't cover it, they would have simply called me and said so and asked if I wanted to be charged for the repair. Now that I actually read the letter they wrote (when I posted my other thread, I was more pissed off than anything) it says they couldn't find a problem with the display after they had done a software upgrade and phone reset.... It was all updated and I simply forgot to re-flash it to factory when I sent it in. Could it be an actual App that is causing this? When I first booted it up, it didn't look like anything was there. I did re-flash it last night and I still see the bright spots, but I don't think I really saw them before I restored my backup when I got the phone back, but did see them after I did a fresh flash last night... Argh, this is bugging me now. |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Damn, I should have taken a photo of my N900 with a white background and showing the white patches and included it before sending back to Nokia. It sounds like Nokia engineers are either blind or towing a company line.
It's all very well for them to say we couldn't find a problem with the display , but try and sell the device with the patches present. |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Had my phone for 4 months, no screen problems at all so far.
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
It has occurred to me that it could be as simple as a battery issue. It heats up, distorts the screen, etc. If they had a different battery (they request that you send it without the battery or other accessories) and they put in a nice shiny new battery, the problem goes away (after being cooled for X period of time).
When I had turned it off last night, then this morning turned it back on the bright spot wasn't as bright. So this could be a sound theory. I think next time I'll just test it with the battery out, just use my old phone for a day or two and see if I can boot it up and the spot is gone. As a side note, where is a good place to order a second battery? slaapliedje |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
got a bright spot on my second N900, first one just has tiny black speck as does second one
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I have those too, but only visible on completely white screen, so, I use a dark theme. Solved. You, know, so-I-won't-get-an-ulcer sort of fix. Just like I fixed the proximity issue by apologizing to people I hang up on, as well as as people I bother during calls because N900 doesn't tell me I'm waiting. All I have to do is call them and explain I'm an idiot and I accidentally randomly hang up on people.
See? All fixed. Where's my medication? ---------- ETA: The reason spots don't appear at boot time is because the phone is at higher brightness. AT 5/5, all my spots are gone. At 2/5, they reappear. Barely visible at 3. Restoring backup restores settings. |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD

Is this something which might keep on getting worse with th course of time? Do I have to worry. Because it only appears in white or any other light background |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
My spots never moved, they are identical to day one, December 1st or so.
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Is this a common problem with every Smartphone LCD or just with N900?
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Yep got my 2 spots too, thought I'd been heavy handed but obviously not, no water damage to the phone and not dropped either.
Same position as the photo earlier in the thread too. Anyone tested removing the battery for a period of hours/day yet as slaapliedje indicated they would do to see if they fade away? |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
These spots does'nt show up if I am playing a 3-D game or watching a bright video. Is this some kind of physical damage to the screen or just normal defect that is common with every mobile LCD?
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
i was reading this because i had a bright spot too...
and the bad thing is i just discovered another one:( this one is less bright than the first one barely noticeble but its there. i hope there will be a solution for it!! |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I also noticed 3 white spots. Haven't read the whole thread but is there a magnet under the screen? I heard there is some sort of magnet somewhere that unlocks the screen. If so, it will have this sort of effect on the display after some time perhaps.
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
There's a magnet and what is likely a Hall effect sensor for keyboard pop. Had no bearing on a LCD, AFAIK.
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I also have 2 bright spots on my screen. 1 very bright - centre right. 1 less bright - centre middle.
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Just wanted to let anyone in the US know that I had the white spot problem and sent the N900 in for repair.
They changed the LCD for me and problem is gone. I got my N900 back within 1 week. See this post I made in another thread. http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=181 |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Yes my replacement unit had these white spots too and in the middle of the screen. Annoying... I need to wait ~3 weeks again for another replacement. :D quality control go!
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Over time, the two bright spots on my N900's display seem to be fading. They're far less noticeable now than I remember them being last winter.
I hope my USB port holds out long enough for the spots to fade away entirely. |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I managed to slip on stairs, broke a bit myself and also the screen of my N900. Had it changed here in Athens.
It took service a week to get the screen. It took them overnight to change it - would have happened in an hour, if they didn't have such a queue. The front of the screen remained the old as it was the lcd underneath that had broken. Cost: screen 73 euro and work 30 euro. Result: brighter image than original. Could it be that the display is not the same anymore as it was in last December phones bought in Finland? |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I refused to accept it but the truth is the two white spots have returned on my screen - on the new screen of my replacement device! Took them about 4 months or so to become visible.
The interesting thing is, they are on exactly the same positions as the ones on my old one. Seems there is something behind the screen that keeps frying away and roasting the screen from there. And by the way, Nokia did not acknowledged this issue. I was able to get a replacement phone because I had some other, more tangible physical problems with it and on their return letter with the new phone they used the term 'goodwill gesture' lol! Not impressed. Hate to say it but my next one might become an android, since iphone is still out of questions. |

mine also have a white spots.... :(
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
Mine has very small, one pixel ones.

Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I have got a new screen too due brightspots.
2 a 3 months later they came back at the same spot. My local Nokia care point says it is due the design of the phone and the "heat" from the device. They also say the problem will come back, even after a new screen....(They have gotten a lot of return N97's and N900's with this problem) N97 has the same problems. The newer Nokia phones with amoled displays don't have these problems... To bad that only after 3 repairs youll get a replacement..... |
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I've got 2 spots as well. They are not disturbing until I start using the browser, and since everything else works I do not want to return it and wait 3 weeks for a replacement screen. At first I suspected my screenprotector or me cleaning the screen with alcohol before applying it.
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
LOL We must all have two white spots both my n900s have them, i have accepted them now, whats the point crying over it
|
Re: Bright spot or spots on display / LCD
I don't have bright spots, but the screen on the left side (near the earpiece) is a bit dimmer - noticeable only on a white background. Anyone else noticed this condition?
